Took a vacation day yesterday, (11/1/13) and played Legion Memorial. Greens were reasonable, a little bit slow and some were a bit bumpy as well. Traps were great, as was the rough and the tee boxes. The fairways had been punched very recently, and they were sanding them quite heavily as well, so they were just plain awful, unfortunately. Pace was great, as I played with a twosome in the first group, with a single catching up and playing the last few holes us with us. At just over $20 to walk it, I can't really complain about them doing the maintenance, this is why the place plays so good all year long.

Played a Men's club event at Legion this past Saturday morning (10/12/2013) and had a good time. The conditions were lacking a little bit, as they did punch just under two weeks before, so the greens weren't very good. I was aware of this, so I'm guessing being mentally prepared for it eased my annoyance level. They've also begun punching some tee boxes, and a few spots in fairways as well, so the course is definitely in the midst of serious maintenance. Just the same, for a muni undergoing all of that, conditions are pretty good. Pace of play was a solid 4 hours, so no complaints there either. In a couple more weeks, I'm betting the place will be back to its usual stellar self.

Round 3 of the local golf vacation was Legion, my home course. Being as I'm not exactly made of money, a little muni golf seemed in order. If that's the golf you can afford, Legion remains the best of the bunch. Greens were very good, medium to quick, and rolling pretty true. Fairways were in decent shape, a little bit of divot damage here and there, but overall not too bad. Rough was good, tee boxes were good, and I managed to stay out of the sand so I can't really comment on those, although they're usually pretty good here. Pace was decent as well, teed off just before 8:00 am and finished in 4:15. Definitely well worth the price and time spent.

Played in the Men's Club event at Legion yesterday morning(5/4/13), and had a really good time in spite of my lousy score. The weather has been warm and dry lately, and you could see it in how the course played. Everything was very firm, and very fast. Lots of roll in the fairways, a bit of release on the greens. They rolled pretty quickly, although a little bit on the bumpy side. They seem to have recovered from the punch pretty well, but I have seen them in a little better shape in rounds past. I found a few bunkers, and they were all little bit thin, but still very consistent. Pace wasn't too bad, although we did wait a few times on the front. All in all, a very pleasant round.

Played in a Men's club event at Legion this morning, 3/16/13, and had a great time. I'm really quite pleased I decided to join here this year. Course conditions were very nice, as they always seem to be. Greens weren't all that fast, but they were consistent, and not as bumpy as most other munis up here this time of year. Fairways, rough and traps were all pretty good as well. Many of the tee boxes had just been punched, but that really didn't bother me too much. Pace was good right around 4 hours, and customer service there is always pretty friendly. As always, Legion's a fun round.

Got out at Legion the day before they punch their greens, and had a very nice time. Everything was in pretty good shape, although they had started punching and sanding some of the fairways and tee boxes. The only place that was an issue was if you came up short of some of the greens, chipping off the sandy lie was pretty unpleasant. Found a couple of fairway bunkers, and they were very firm, very nice to play out of. The 1 greenside bunker I was in was very soft and fluffy, absolutely perfect. Pace of play felt a little slow, as we waited on quite a few shots, but in the end we did get around in just over 4 hours, which is pretty good for a beautiful Sunday morning. Overall, everything was very good, as usual at Legion.

Played Legion Memorial last Friday. The course was in really good shape. My dad and I played with another twosome in 3:30-3:45.

None of the tee boxes were chewed up and all were very level. The fairways were cut very nicely and rolling well. There were a few spots of hard dry surfaces due to the lack of rain the last couple months but over all in great shape!

The sand traps were pretty softer than I expected which gave me a few fits. (Yes, I hit 5 of them and finally hit good sand shots on the last two.) The rough was not too long. It was easy enough to hit long irons or even hybrids out of the rough and not lose too much distance.

The greens were the best muni greens I have played all year. Very good speed and absolutely smooth as can be. Other muni courses I have played had pretty beat up greens that you would have to hope for a good bounce to make consistent putts. Not here. If you hit a good putt it was a good putt.

While it was a tale of two 9s for me (46-40) I look forward to playing Legion a ton next year as I join their men's league. It is a great value for the course at $31 weekday and $24 early bird (which right now is before 7:30).

If you want to play a solid course for a great price, give Legion a try. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Got out pretty early on Saturday morning, 5/12/12 around 6:45. Wasn't surprised by how packed the place already was, as the weekend was absolutely gorgeous. As a result, the round was a little bit slow. The course has really firmed up, shots into the greens were really releasing, and there was tons of roll in the fairways. Greens were pretty true, and pretty consistent as well, even if my putting wasn't. Rough was reasonable, tee boxes were decent as well. Only found one fairway bunker, and it was in pretty good shape. Legion's always worth it.
