Walked on to Eagle's Talon at Willows this morning and played a pretty quick round as a single, walking it in about 3.5 hrs. I was behind several twosomes, and was never pushed by the two behind me, so even though I got around really quick I was enjoying getting in extra practice on all of the greens, and occasionally playing 2 balls. Conditions weren't very good, but there's been a ton of rain over the last few days, plus a pretty serious little windstorm the night before, so I can't say that I had high expectations. Even though I've seen the place much better, I'd say I was pleasantly surprised with how good things were. Greens were a little bit inconsistent, traps were very inconsistent, and every where was really wet. Just the same, I won't complain a whole lot. At the winter club walking rate of $28 plus tax it was a nice way to spend the morning.

Walked onto Eagle's Talon at Willows Run this morning, for the early rate of $35 plus tax to walk. At that price, it isn't too bad of a deal. Greens are in very good shape, and rolled pretty true although a little bit on the slow side. Putts really just didn't roll out like you might have thought they would. Approach shots held very nicely. Fairways were in decent shape, and the rough was pretty good too. Some areas off the fairway were pretty burnt out and didn't give a great lie, while other places were really quite lush. Tee boxes seemed to be a little bit better than times past, but I still wouldn't call them good. I found 3 bunkers today, two fairway and one greenside, and they were very consistent, not very difficult to play out of. Got around walking as a 3 some in just under 4 hours, so the pace was pretty good. Certainly a better way to spend the morning than going to the office!

Got out to Willows Run this past Saturday (7/12/14) for my first round back after a 5 week break from golf, due to some medical issues. I wasn't expecting a whole lot (from me or the course) but found myself pleasantly surprised by the experience. I played much better than expected, and the course played a whole lot better as well. Greens were probably as good as I've ever seen them, very smooth and true, at a medium to slightly quick pace. Fairways, rough, and the two bunkers I found were all in good shape as well. The tee boxes here, which are often a problem, were actually pretty good. Granted, I've usually played the whites here, and this time I played the back tees, so I think those were in better shape because they get much less traffic. I walked on early in the morning, and managed to get in the 1st group out so pace was pretty good, although it did take us just over 4 hours. The group behind us never pushed us though, and the marshal that we ran into on 11 was pretty pleased with our pace. I paid the rack rate which ends up being around $60 to walk after tax, which I still think is a little bit high, but that price will never go down as the place is always pretty full. Overall, I think with the place in such good shape it was worth it this time, although I probably wouldn't make it the "go to" place, as better deals with comparable conditions can be found.

Played Eagle's Talon today, teeing off at 11:30, about 5 minutes late from our time. Pace was a little bit slower, around 4:30 which really isn't so bad considering how late in the day we were playing, and how nice the weather is here for January. Conditions were passable, greens were reasonable, not too quick, and a little bit bumpy. Fairways were very hit and miss, some were fine, some were really pretty bad. Rough was pretty inconsistent as well. Tee boxes are never level here, but the markers for the most part were put in decent places. I found 2 bunkers, and they weren't so bad. For the winter club rate, about $32, it was alright.

Walked on to Willows-Eagle's Talon this morning, and got paired with two other singles in the first group out. Conditions were pretty wet, which is how things are going to be this time of year. Greens still need a little more time to heal from the punch, they were quite inconsistent, some nice, some really bumpy, almost all of them pretty slow. Fairways were a bit sloppy, and that won't change until May. Rough is really long and lush, tough to get good contact out of it, making it key to hit it straight. Bunkers had a lot of standing water in them, which again was expected due to the recent rains we've had. Tee boxes really need some work, on about half of them it was tough to find a level spot to use. Having joined their winter club, the price is right at around $32 to walk it after tax. I would probably be a little disappointed to pay more than that.

Walked on as a single yesterday morning, and got right out rather quickly as it was raining pretty good, and had rained really good all night the night before. As a result, the place was quite the sloppy mess that I was expecting. Lots of standing water in fairways and just about every bunker, but it really had been coming down so I can't hold it against them. The greens weren't very good, although they were a little better than I expected. They'd been absolutely awful all winter, and it seems that the punch has helped them out, even if they're not very close to good. Fairways were ok, rough was very nice, very lush yet not impossible to hit out of. Tee boxes have always been pretty bad here. Being the only guy there I did walk it in about 3:15, which was really quite nice. Overall though, I think it'll be a little while before I come back.

Played here this morning, in the 3rd group out of the day, and still needed 4:20 to get around. Just a little too slow for my taste, although I've certainly had slower rounds. The weather's been super dry for the last month or two, but you couldn't tell that here as everything was very green and lush, only a few burnt spots in a couple of fairways. Greens were ridiculously soft, which they always seem to be at Willows. Shots hold that you expect to release, and they'll spin back when you expect them to just hold. They're also a little on the bumpy side, so you've really got to give it a good strike to hold the line. All in all a decent round, but probably a little too pricey for the quality of design and conditions.

Walked on as a single on Thursday, July 5 2012 and found the place to be just ok. Conditions about a month ago were a bit better, I'm thinking they're really getting lots of business. The place was definitely packed. The round was on the slow side, it seemed like I was waiting on at least 2/3 of my shots. The greens rolled ok, fairways weren't bad, and the tee boxes remain an issue. Some of them are just so far from flat its pretty lame. At the midweek rate it isn't bad, but I don't think I'd play here during the weekend for what they charge.
