Long accepted as one of the premier golf facilities in Phoenix, this outing was a wee bit disappointing. While the fairways were one long carpet of unending green, some of the tee boxes were more than a little burned out, and most greens were in fair-to-mediocre condition, with lots of bare spots and bumps. Traps were hard, overwatered, and in one bunker, had about 10" of standing water in it. No beverage cart service on a Monday apparently. Still a gem, but definitely needs a little polishing.

The condition of the course was not the best, although it wasn't "bad" we were told that the grass hadn't grown in yet, and as a result it appeared dry and the greens were harder than usual, with quite a few ball marks. the pace of play was good. the customer service was ok, the pro-shop staff have always been very good. Cart girls were around frequently.

Was up in the Phoenix area and played this course again on 9/21/2009. For once, I was very disappointed in the customer service. No one to unload or load bags. No one to put bags on the carts. It was a Monday, and seemed as if the course was operating on a skeleton crew with very few people around to help. The course was in good shape with the exception of the bunkers. Very thin sand and an explosion shot was next to impossible with any bounce on your SW. Ended up using the PW on the back 9 with better results. I like the layout of this course (see earlier reviews for more specifics), but was for the first time very disappointed with the lack of customer service.

Traveled to the Phoenix area on 8/15 to play this course again. Was in surprisingly good condition considering the lack of monsoon rains and extreme heat we've had in the state this summer. The service was excellent as usual. The fairways were nice and green. The only drawback were the bunkers. The sand was very thin and very hard underneath the 1" of sand in the bunkers. The teeboxes were nice. The greens were a little bit bumpy, but we were following a construction company tourney, so many of the bumps were caused by spike marks and guys dragging their feet. The course is pretty wide open with a nice mix of 3's, multi-distance 4's, short and long 5's. I enjoy this course and will look forward to playing it again next month on another trip up to the Phoenix area.

Finally had the opportunity to play Raven, $25 greens fee via their website...wasn't sure if the course could possibly match my expectations for it. Friendly staff, immediately loaded my bag and parked my cart by the driving range. Pro shop dude told me to tee off whenever I was ready, the course not too busy at the moment.

All you can hit balls at the range included in the fee. Range hitting area was a bit chewed up, and the grass was thin where it wasn't all divots. Finished and started play; surprisingly course was pretty backed up. I was behind a couple of threesomes and a couple more foursomes, pace of play ended up in the 4 hour plus range. Hate to see what it's like when it IS crowded.

As for the course conditions, most tee boxes were in good shape, not lush but definitely playable. The fairways were outstanding, with one caveat: overwatering in certain areas led to playing a mud ball into the green on 4 different holes (not fun, especially when one created its own divot wall between the ball and the green, making the chip impossible).

The greens were large clean, firm and very, very straight. I mean, really straight. Hard to think of any hole where there was any type of break, no matter what the read might have been. Traps were overwatered, a few had casual water in their base, but you could hit out of them.

Customer service was very good, as one would expect from this course. Plenty of water stations, "comfort" stations and the cart girl came by 4-5 times. Definitely want to play here again, if the price is right.

Pace of play excellent, cart beverage service frequent, with cold "mango" towels to ease the heat!! I still think this is one of the best values in the area, lots of specials to be had, and fairly easy to get tee times.

Played Monday 2-16-09. Not many folks out there. Had the course to ourselves. Looked pretty busy when we finished around noon. What a great facility. And customer service was great too. Cart girls 4-5 times. No need for a marshal. Cart guy got our clubs from us in the lot and had them carted and ready to go. Course was in great shape except the bunkers. They were thin on sand and heavy on rocks. I had not played here in about 10 years and did not remember much of the course. I hope to be back sooner than later.

We played here on January 29th and 31st, 2009. This course is a must play, if you can get a "special", of which there are usually lots. The many times I've played it, it has always been in excellent condition (even just after over-seeding). We purchased the Raven pass for $149, (3 prime time games and 3 twilight games, with certain blackouts) and was well worth it. The greens are generally large, fairways are as well. Bunkers are well placed and they too are large, with some very deep. The course usually plays in 4-4 1/2 hours. Staff are friendly, and although we didn't see a marshall either time this month, it moved along well. I did think the greens were a bit "thin" for this time of year, but it didn't affect putts. It is a beautiful course.
