Rode the Greens (6537/71.3/137) early Sunday. Only reached 90 later in the round, muggy but fairly calm. 4H, 10M POP. Tees mostly lush/level with most divots repaired. Fairways lush and very nice to play from. Bermuda rough is thick, the ball will sit down to where you almost have to step on it to see it unless you are right on top of it. Even though it is not ridiculously tall, it is very punitive. Sand traps very good with plenty of soft white sand. Fairway bunkers firmer, both types well maintained. Large Bermuda greens were rolling nice after the recent rains. Still firm, smooth and medium speed. Very enjoyable round made even better when my guest from Colorado almost aced #3, the signature par 3 with the green cut out of the top of a hill surrounded by lost ball territory for a kick in birdie! Challenging layout with forced carries and many lateral lost ball areas. Customer service very good from all. No Drink cart even on the weekends was a surprise? Nice restaurant on site with good selection/reasonable golf course prices. Excellent all grass practice area which includes range balls but it is a long way from the pro shop and 1st tee. Basic carts do not have GPS. Recommended.

Bermuda rough green and decent to play from. Thick, the ball will sit down.

Sand traps very good with plenty of soft white sand. Fairway bunkers firmer.

Large Bermuda greens were top dressed but still rolled nice. Smooth, medium speed and firm.

First course Fazio designed west of the Mississippi River in the mid 1980's that will challenge you. Expect forced carries and many lateral lost ball areas. Customer service very good from all. No Drink cart on weekdays in the summer. Nice restaurant on site. Excellent all grass practice area which includes range balls but it is a long way from the pro shop and 1st tee. Basic carts do not have GPS. Recommended.

Course has really greened up and become much more lush after the summer monsoon season. Tees lush/level with most divots repaired. Fairways lush and nice to play from. Tees level with some thin/bare spots and most divots repaired. Fairways mostly lush with some thin spots and generally nice to play from. Bermuda rough mostly green and decent to play from, not maintained high with some thin spots. Sand traps excellent. Around the greens plenty of soft white sand. Fairway bunkers more firm. Was within 50 yards of them on numerous holes and they did not act like letting any groups play through was an option. Ventana is very spread out, easy to get lost. Depending on your tee choice, many tee shots with forced carries hitting over no man's land. Long climbs in carts, play down hill, then repeat the process is a common theme. Few holes are severely uphill and being very firm, the course plays shorter than the listed yardage. Tees level/lush with most divots repaired. Fairways lush and nice to play from. Bermuda rough mostly green and becoming more lush/thick/deep by the day. Sand traps very good. Around the greens plenty of soft white sand. Fairway bunkers more firm. Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139) in 3.5H mid day. Mid 90's, clear and windy. Mountain is the original Ventana course and this layout is IMO the better of the two Ventana courses. First Fazio design west of the Mississippi. Depending on your tee choice, many tee shots hitting over no man's land. The Green tees feature several 150-200 yard forced carries as an example. Long climbs in carts, play down hill, then repeat the process is a common theme. Few holes are severely uphill and IMO, the course plays shorter than the listed yardage. Level/lush with most divots repaired. Fairways the same. Lush and nice to play from. Bermuda rough out of dormancy and decent to play from. Sand traps nicely maintained with good quality sand. Large Bermuda greens rolled nice. Medium fast and very firm, you have to play for roll out. Challenging and fun Fazio design in excellent playing condition. Expect Desert scape on both sides of most holes with many forced carries. If you venture more than about 10 yards off many fairways you are in penalty stroke land on this layout. Customer service excellent from all encountered. Bottled water provided. No drink cart today. Nice, all grass practice area which includes range balls. Basic carts do not have GPS. Highly recommended.
