Played here Tuesday with an SCGA member outing. $70 rate and I thought it was worth that. Though the SCGA group was pretty small this time, there were a lot of members out there still. However, the pace was excellent and we finished in under 4 hours. The course was in excellent shape. They were doing some work on a few tee boxes, so a couple of the par-3s had temporary tees that weren't too great. Otherwise, very good on the majority of holes. Fairways were beautifully kept and tightly cut kikuyu. Chipping off those tight, sticky lies was a real challenge. Rough mostly good, but not very deep so not much of a factor. White, fluffy sand in the bunkers. The greens were fantastic, as well. Receptive and rolling true and at relatively quick speeds. They are getting to aerate in the next couple weeks, though. I didn't know much about the course coming in, but I really enjoyed it. The setting is a bit remote out near the small regional airport and there are some houses around parts of the course, but there is a lot of nice scenery. Most greens are elevated and many fairways are slanted to one side or the other, so there aren't many flat lies and it plays longer on many holes than the yardage suggests. Still, it's a pretty fair layout with a good mix of holes, so good shots are rewarded and bad ones can leave you scrambling. Nice clubhouse and facilities. is it a "must play" on the Central Coast? No. But I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone if you get an invite or have a chance to play in a tournament or outing there.
