I play here on occasion. It can be pretty wet after a rain. Otherwise, it's a nice course to just play and not worry about the score.

Mather is doing pretty well these days...the fairways are generally in excellent condition and while the greens are a little bumpy from the aerification, they still putt pretty true. All in all, a go... Continue »

Mather is doing pretty well these days...the fairways are generally in excellent condition and while the greens are a little bumpy from the aerification, they still putt pretty true. All in all, a good value, condition-wise, this time of year. The crew there seems to have put in quite a bit of effort to get the course back to its former shape and it shows.

Course is in great shape tee thru green. Rough is lush and 1-3 inches, making it tough to get the club through - use extra club. Greens are moderately fast - rolling true. Course to aeriate next wee... Continue »

played early morning (7am). Course was a bit wet, but very playable. Only 2 of 5 water stops had water containers in them. Brand new carts were nice; however none of them had sand to refill divots ... Continue »

Brand new carts were nice; however none of them had sand to refill divots and no sand on the par 3's. Even without the seed mix, the divots in the fairways/teeboxes were minimal.

Just recently played Mather this past weekend (6/24) and I have to say that the course is slipping. There was a lot of water on the fairways (1, 4 in particular). Of course there is still no sand in the bunkers, which seems to be an ongoing issue at all of the courses I play. The 16th fairway was all dried out and starting to show signs of summer. It hasn't even been that hot here in Sacramento and already the course is looking like it is the end of July. Hope this changes soon.

This is my home course, so I might be impartial, but if it was in bad shape I would tell you. I know quite a few of the staff as well as the groundskeepers. This course is in its top shape, and hope it stays that way all summer long. The staff has put in some serious efforts to get it this way, and I can say thanks. The sand traps still need a bit of work, but if you hit the ball straight you won't have that problem right? Play this course during the week and you will be rewarded by getting through in 3 1/2 - to just under 4 hours. Play on the weekend and don't make any other plans for the day.

Played today in a similar wind that cancelled the Heritage on Sunday and even gave the LPGA fits in FL...but you go when you can no matter what Mother Nature throws at you. It was a good chance to practice shots that you hardly ever get to try. Other than the wind, the greens are recovering from the aerification rituals earlier this spring...pretty bumpy and slow, but they'll soon get back to their normal condition. Fairways and rough were excellent, but the tee boxes were a bit ragged and some noticebly uneven in the span between tee markers. They have some demo clubs you can try...for free! Very courteous staff in the pro shop.
