First time playing this course since my Navy days! I only played the front nine and then only the first six holes. Didn't have time for more dealing with a dad that has Alzheimer's. I found this to be a fun no stress golf course. A little bit of course knowledge goes a long way here when it comes to club selection.
Overall it is apparent that this course gets a huge amount of play for which the greens are paying the price. Lots of ball marks, I must have fixed about four or five per green that I played. The bunkers were I bit thin for which I payed the price on three. I will play here again as I only had to pay 12 bucks as a veteran. I want to thank all the guys that gave me ideas on courses to play almost played Oak Quary but didn't have enough time.

Played in the afternoon 1:09 tee time. The weather was great, I was paired with three good players, which meant we didn't spend a lot of t of time looking for balls. This course is usually packed, but they have marshals that do a pretty good job with POP right around 4.5 hrs.
The course is showing the results of the drought, however, overall I would still say that tee to green its a 7 out of 10. This is a classic Mackezie course, if you like a great course layout with no tricked up greens, or hidden greens the size of LAX you will enjoy this course. In my opinion there is not a bad hole on the course. This is obviously one of my favorite courses so I am a bit biased.
As far as the actual conditions, the tee boxes are all level, although some are scarred up pretty good. The fairways are in very good shape, there are no bare spots and divots are not bad. I was only in one bunker, there was only sand around the edges, NONE in the main part. The greens are pretty bumpy and the speeds are inconsistent. With all that said, this course is worth playing for the layout and the feeling of golf the way it used to be.

Played today, walked on as single, teed up with another single on the tournament course. First off it's always windy, the wind picks up in the afternoon. Pop was 2.5 front because we spent time waiting on a group ahead, they waved us through on the tenth, we played the back in 1.5. The staff was very helpful and friendly, the carts have gps which really helps. There are a lot of ESA's so pay close attention to the yardage points AND the wind.
The green, fairways, and tee boxes are all great, I was pleased to see that there was hardly any issue with ball marks on the greens. I do wished that they would have been a bit faster.
The only major negative are the bunkers, all of them. I don't know what they use in them but it doesn't even look like sand. It looks like grey concrete and feels like peanut butter, it really sticks to the club. If that's not enough, there is only about 1" on top of clay.
I payed rack $60, and felt it was well worth the price, if you can stay out of the buckets you'll have a great deal of fun.
The other thing I need to mention is that this is a Nicklaus design, the thing that makes this great is that it is not tricked up, he uses the contour of the land and gentle undulations on greens.

Played here yesterday 12/19. Weather was perfect, no wind, about 65 degrees, sunny and clear. Walked on as single and needed to tee off right away or wait and play behind a three foursomes. Let me say that the guy in the shop and the starter where great and very apologetic for rushing me to the tee. This is the only part of the day that was a downer I was paired with a guy that would not stop talking! He insisted on telling me where to hit the ball and then gave me a running commentary on the game his and mine. Needless to say my game was in the toilet.
As far as the course is concerned it is a very challenging layout that needs to be played several times to really understand where the targets are and what the keys are. The condition of this course is great, the greens are smooth firm and fast they are good size and very undulating plus it appears that they all tilt towards the valley. The fairways where owed tight and allowed a fair amount of roll. The rough was mowed even to about 3-4" and it is lush and will grab the club if the ball settles down.
All in all I must say that I enjoyed playing here and will play here on a more regular basis it's a very good value for $49 senior rate. I highly recommend this at least once.

Been playing here on a more regular basis because it saves me gas. The course was just taken over by Kemper sports management, I don't expect any changes until next year. This can be a good muni if they would take better care of it.
At this time they are stocking the pro shop and cleaning up the clubhouse. As far as the course is concerned the fairways are like concrete right now as they have cut back on watering, this also results in large parts of the fairways looking brown and dead. This also can easily make a very good drive turn into crap due to the rollout. Not good. The only we'll kept part of the course are the greens, they water them constantly so they are soft and slow. As mentioned in an earlier post the tee boxes need to be leveled and reseeded as a good stance which is also level is at a premium. The good news is that the bunkers haven't gotten any worse, you know what that means! The green fees are less than $30 which makes it passable. If it wasn't so close I would just drive by.

Had not played here in a while, they had a Monday night special $19.95 with cart so 4 of us came up here. POP was right under 4 1/2 hours which we expected as the course was packed.
The service was great as usual and the shop is very well stocked with equipment, balls, and clothes.
Overall the course is as good as I've seen it this year! The greens are just the right speed, smooth, and roll true. One has to remember not to over read them. The fairways had a few wet spots but overall they give a fair amount of rollout. I was in 3 bunkers there was sufficient sand, but it was a bit crusty. All the tee boxes are good with plenty of area to choose from.
This is a fun course that is narrow and requires a fair amount of thought and accuracy.

This is the stepchild of Modesto! They only do just enough maintenance to get by, this is really a shame because IMHO this is a better layout then Creekside. It has a lot of mature trees which force ball positioning of the tee as well as accuracy.
The course is not well maintained, the tee boxes are reasonable, the fairways have a weeds but are very playable. The rough is what you would expect, some hard pan, some bare spots, some ground squirrel dens. The bunkers are poor but have enough sand/dirt to be playable. They do try to maintain the greens pretty well but unfortunately the people that play here don't fix ball marks and drag their feet, so as a consequence they gat bumpy. Also they are usually around a 9 because they keep the grass higher due to the heat and the players.
I enjoy playing here because it is target golf and its only $19 for seniors, this lets me to get past all the shortcomings. Also pop is a lot better than Creekside (4.5-5).

This is the first time I have played here since the remodel. The clubhouse is much like it was in the old days, some parts remodeled with the outside being restored. I played here many times when in the service and after in the 80s. This was great course and always reminded me of pinehurst #2. It was long, tight with small fast greens. They have made it into a cookie cutter resort course. They traded a couple of Black Horse holes with Bayonet, added bunkers, contoured and increased the size of the greens, and shaped them. Some changes for the good but for me I didn't much care for it. Oh, by the way houses are finding their way onto the golf course as well.
As far as conditions are concerned, I was very disappointed with the condition and speed of the greens. There was sand around the entire fringe, the actual greens were thin and firm, with a speed of 8.5 to 9.5. Worse yet the speed was very inconsistent. The best part of the course are the bunkers, the sand is firm and just the right amount to make bunker play fun. The fairways are very good with thick carpet of grass easy to hit off of. The tee boxes are average level and somewhat thin but ok. Overall I was glad I only payed $59 to play because in this condition it is not a $100 course no matter where it is.
Sorry I couldn't be more kind, but I'm more of a traditionalist, may the old boy rest in peace.

This is on my regular rotation so I have good idea of changes in the course. First let me say that I usually always walk and it usually takes me 3 to 3.5 hrs. This day I was paired up with a great older gentlemen in his 70s he knew his capability and played from the forward tees. However we were behind a 3some that thought they were all TW. At one point the guy waited for the green to clear when he was about 290 out with water on the left. You guessed it he made the water. It took 4.5hrs. Way to long.
The course is starting to show summer wear from play and the heat. Some of the fairways are getting thin and overwatering is the name of the game. The greens are getting bumpy and are a great deal slower than they look. Also, there are too many unrepaired ball marks.
The tee boxes are getting the worst part of the deal they are getting thin and are getting pretty divot marked up.
I still enjoy playing here as one can truely let the driver go, and the greens are a fair size so one can take chances. The only thing I hate is rounds over 4hrs.

It's been a while since I played here and I really do enjoy this course. It's short and fun with good greens. I started on # 10 because there was a 30 people skins game that had already started. This course has no practice tee just nets. The greens were not as fast as I had remembered they were running about 9 to 9.6, I found that a few of the greens where also bumpy which cost me 2 birdies. The fairways are great dry, short, and lush, this adds yards. Didn't spend much time in the rough so I can't really comment but it appears very playable. The biggest issue here are the bunkers, I was in two and there was just enough sand to cover the dirt. Tee boxes are good, there is always a level area to tee off from.
This is a fun, no stress course. A couple of the holes are actually funny, they go almost straight up hill. I always recommend this course and will be back.

Played here a couple of weeks ago but was to lazy to write a review, so here goes! I like this course, this course is a good balance of length, bunkering, and greens. The longer holes have greens that are more accessible as not as cnotoured par 3s are med length with water in play on 2. Par 5s are a little weak with wind being the major defense.
The conditions are very good considering the heat they have to deal with. The greens are receptive and smooth, the fairways are lush and great to play from, the rough close to the f'ways is good but beyond that they don't water and is therefore just dirt.
I wish this course was a bit closer to me I would play it more often, but its about 45 miles so I only go there when business takes me in that direction. I would recommend it as the price and conditions make this a very good deal.

First time playing here, I had heard that they where now open to public play. The golf shop and clubhouse are mid century and nothing really to speak of. The shop had the usual logo merchandise, some equipment and balls. The staff was friendly and help full. I played on Tuesday and the wind was blowing about 15-20 with gusts. I'll begin with the greens as that is what I mostly judge a course by. These greens are by far some of the best I have played this year they are smooth and fast (10.5-11) is my guess. They are difficult to read and require some local knowledge. Keep in mind where the hills are and where the valley is as everything breaks towards the valley. These greens are not tricked up to get breaks they appear pretty flat at first glance but you learn fast to pay attention.
The bunkers appear to have some kind of river bottom sand it is heavy but they are very playable. They fairways are a mix of poa, weeds, dichondra, and crabgrass. They are very playable but not attractive. The tee boxes are ok although some have spots that are not very level.
I played this course from the back tees with the wind blowing, I found the following! The course is longer than the card shows, the par 3s are brutal, very small greens and well protected. The par 5s are weak with the exception of 18 uphill into the wind. There is a good balance of long and shorter par 4s. All in all this is a fun course to play if you don't let the wind get into your head.
