I've been wanting to play here for a long time as I am a great fan of Mackenzie. The layout is typical of his courses, nine out nine in, you don't get back to the clubhouse until 18. The staff was ok, they got me out right away with a threesome. Waited a couple of minutes on almost every hole. Not bad at all. Saw the refreshment cart 4 times and the water jugs where full and cold. This is a great walking course some slight ups and downs but I don't see why one would need to ride. There are a lot of bare spots when you get of the second cut. But all in all this is a good track and very playable, no gimmicks or tricks. We played in 4.5 hours about normal for here, they are always pact. I'll play here again, it was fun and enjoyable.

Played on Thursday afternoon as a single behind a twosome. Never had to do any real waiting as I played two balls in some cases. Overall I must say that they keep this course in pretty good condition for the number of rounds it gets on a daily basis. The tee boxes are all level until you get to the edges where they roll off, this takes away some targets. The fairways are all in great shape, no bare spots and no major divot damage. The greens are as good as can be expected or a muni, running about a 9 with some bumpiness. This course is good for target practice, almost all of the greens are identical, round, about 25x25, leaning back to front. Very predictable and simple to read. They have added some large trees to the No. 1 about 230 out right in the middle, this is to force the tee shot to the right which makes the hole play a little longer. Other than that its just a reasonable place for the money but not to challenging.

This is about as good as I have seen this course, including when they held a us open qualifier. The greens are great, they rolled about 10-10.5 and could be a bit faster. They roll very true and if you get a good read the ball goes in. Played as a single with no on in front of me 1- 9 then a foursome on ten that let me play thru on 11. It was pretty windy 10-15 with gusts to 25. I feel that these type of conditions just make you think and concentrate a bit more. The fairways are really good although a bit soft from the recent rain so there's not much roll. Lower shots are the order of the day. Played in about 3.5 hours walking. This is the time to play here.

They are working hard on this golf course! The customer service is very good here, the staff is friendly and helpful.
I teed of at about 11:00 as a single, on the back nine. The little putting green behind the tee was pretty quick but the greens out on the course were about a third slower. I guessed them to be about a 8-8.5. They still putted very true it was just difficult to get the ball past the hole even on downhill putts.
The fairways have improved 100% over the last time I played there. They are covered with good grass with no bare spots. Although I found that they appeared to be wet and in some places overwatered.
The only area that really needs attention is the sand in the bunkers! It is thin and very inconsistent. I know as spent more time than usual in them.
The only other item is the pace of play, I play in about 3 to 3.5 hrs, the average round there seems to take about 4.5 and I can't figure out why.
All things considered this is a very good little golf course and a great value for a senior at $21 walking.

This is a nice old traditional course with large mature trees, narrow fairways, and small greens. It has a lot of what I call character. But , as all things now days they have fallen victim to raising maintenance cost and lower number of players. I have only played here a couple of times as it is not on my normal direction of travel. This course plays long as for example the ninth plays 450 with a dogleg guarded by big trees. This is what makes it fun, it forces one to think just like a lot of the old style courses, it's not just bombs away. If you like older style courses with a good friendly atmosphere and if you can overlook some of the shortcomings I would try this course. It reminds me of a old diner that serves the best burgers in the world.

Played as a single, stared at about 11 finished about 2. It was pretty cold no warmer than 50 degrees the course was wet and the fairways are soft so every ball had mud on it. The greens are what make this course worth playing. They are in great condition even at this time of the year. Pure bentgrass they roll true and fast, only about 10 today but its just fun to play on greens where the ball goes where I expect it to and not bounce all over the place. I can look past all the other short comings for these greens. The other item I would like to mention is how accommodating and helpful the shop staff is. There was a group of 4 foursomes going off on the first tee, so I asked if I could start on the back then play the front, there was no one coming up 9 so they let me go. This allowed me to play a comfortable three hour round walking. As a senior I only payed $25 with a small warmup bucket. Overall a great value.

I played here when they were forecasting high wind and rain! it did not rain but the winds blew pretty good. This is a very flat golf course, but this is made up by having very small greens, narrow fairways and a couple of long par 4's (442 is the longest. The course also has some water but it is not in play. Mostly played by seniors therefore it plays 5+ hours during the week.
The conditions are fair for this time of year for the central valley. One can usually find some lavel area with grass on the tee boxes. The fairways are starting to go dormant and there is no overseed so they look brown and grey but play good. The thing I like most about this course is that it requires great control and target golf. The price is certainly worth it. I payed $12 for 18 walking.

The heat is beginning to take it's toll on the course. Overall the course is still very playable but is one was to look a little deeper it appears that the heat, lack of water and players not fixing their own damage is wearing on the course.
The greens are very bumpy, slow, and inconsistant. Some have been aeriated some have been sanded etc... The fairways are still in pretty good condition, but being a walker you see where the bare spots are, same with the rough.
The bunkers are also just ok. There is what I call sirt (sand & dirt ) its playable. There wasn't a lot of play today, I'm not sure if it's due to the weather, the condition, or the green fees. I will be waiting until the fall to play here again.

First time playing here! If you blink you'll miss the entrance like I did good thing for GPS. The staff was very friendly and helpful, didn't have a tee time but he was able to get me out in about 10 minutes. There is no practice area other than a small putting green.
The overall layout is good, with a lot of blind shots of the tee and into the greens. There are also some very severe elevation changes on several holes that require close attention to clubbing. What I enjoyed the most was the pace of play I played with these two older guys that would pick up the ball after they would play for double bogie.
THere are homes all around the course but they should never come into play. The greens are bent grass and have the potential to be very quick, they where not today (8-9) at best. This made it difficult to read the amount of break, only real negative about the course.
It takes playing the this course 3 or 4 times to know the places to go or not to go. All in all this course is well maintained and fun to play. They have great prices and senior prices Mon - Thur. I would recommend it.

Been a while since I played here so I thought it was about time. Overall this course is a great value, they keep all parts in very good condition. The tees are all good with no bare spots or divot damage. This course has good landmarks to use for targets. The fairways and rough are in very good condition with very little divot damage and lush grass. The greens are as good as I have seen them, half of each green is still healing up from aerating. The good half is very smooth but could be just a bit faster. They where running about 9 today my guess. This is well worth the green fees ($32 w/cart senior).

It's been a while since I reviewed this course. I play here on a regular basis 2-3 rounds per week. I have seen this course go from outstanding to now marginal. I am trying to be as objective as possible and report the way it is. To start with the carts are old and worn out, their battery runs down after one 18 whole out. The service is still good.
Now the course:

The overall course is still a good challenge specially if the wind is up. The tee boxes are all level but they are getting very dry and grass is spotty at best. There are no bare spots yet but with a high volume of play it won't take long for them to appear. The fairways are still good with no bare spots and no dead areas. The rough however is another story, the first cut is good but beyond that its patchy with bare spots becoming more prevalent. The best part of the courses are the greens, they are all still very good and are getting to run at about 10.5 to 11 and they are very smooth, there are some unrepaired ball marks but people have gotten a lot better over time. All of the bunker complexes on the Merlot 9 have been renovated they are like resort bunkers with lots of good soft sand. All in all I think the summer is stressing out the the course but it is still worth the money.

Played here for the first time. IMHO this is a pretty good course for a muni. It appeared well taken care of, there where a large number of players out when I played. This is a very tight driving course, one of the tightest I have played in a long time, this makes up for the lack of length. There is also a lot of water that could come into play for shorter hitters. I enjoyed playing the course, was in one bunker which had plenty of sand (its on the heavy side). The greens where smooth and true running about 9 today, a bit on the slow side. This course is what you see is what you get. I will play here again soon.
