Played last Saturday and it was HOT, triple digits but there was a breeze. It's an OK course but with the price of gas I don't think it's worth the drive unless it's somewhat local for you. It's not a long course but the trees can be a challenge if you don't hit the ball straight off the tee. The greens are a little tricky to read so I left too many short and long. The sand is another story, with all the watering we had a number of traps with water and if it was dry they were a bit on the hard side. The good side is that getting a tee time is easy, of course it did make us wonder why the parking lot was so empty... not many players but perhaps it was the heat. Since I'm from Orange County, I'll probably save the money on gas and put it towards the more local courses.

The greens are punched but they did it a bit different compared to the normal way... last month they punched half of every green and then punched the other half of every green two days ago. So that the pins are all on the half of the green that is playable, still a bit bumpy but not a bad deal for $33 with the email special (cart is extra). We had such a good time yesterday that we're going back today!

Played 4/12/08... very windy... too windy. Course is in great condition which I would normally love but with the wind blowing and gusting so hard it wasn't much fun. I don't mind a bit of wind but when I've got to club up 3 clubs and still come up short... that's tough... or a down wind 160 yard PW and fly the green by 10 yards... what was I suppose to hit? A lob wedge? I know you're thinking that I should have hit a little knock down but with the traps and firm greens, I had a tough time stopping the ball even with the Pro V's. I just found it to be more luck than skill... but still no excuse. Overall it's a very good course... a bit of a drive but I'll go back again.

The greens were punched a couple of weeks ago and are still very bumpy, punch marks are still visible and haven't filled in. The course is in OK shape given this time of year. I'm not a big fan of this course, I've played this course a lot over the years and I find it a bit boring... but don't let this detour you from playing there, it's an OK course.

It was a bit wet out from the rain but playable. I like this course, it's got some character... a lot of big trees. Overall the course is in good shape. One thing that bugs me... it's a course that gives local residents a break on green fees which seems to be subsidized by those having to pay full price.

Decent course and for this time of year it's in OK shape. I've seen the greens in better shape, a little bumpy compared to normal.

All the rain left things a bit soggy... cart paths only for carts today. The greens are in really great shape... fairways leave quite a bit to be desired... the course has be working on the tee boxes and they're coming along nicely even though most of them are on the thin side. The only downside about today was when our group complained about the group in front which was 2 holes behind... the marshall's response, "they're regulars so be patient". For the money it's worth playing.

Normally I would say Los Verdes is a very good course to play if you can get a decent tee time but things have changed over the past 10 years. This course is getting worse and worse over time, I don't know if it's poor management or cut backs on the maintenance. The overall course is in terrible condition except for the greens which are a little bumpy from the punch marks but they are very green and healthy. The views of the ocean and surrounding area are beautiful, Catalina was crystal clear but as much as I like a great view it's really all about the golf and this definitely wasn't it. This round didn't start off very well so perhaps I'm being a little harsh... we weren't told that it's "cart paths only" until after we'd paid and were actually on the 1st tee... I don't play courses that I can't drive to the ball because of my bad knee. Anyway, I would keep an eye on the ratings for this course to improve before I would play it. I'd rather pay more for a decent course than suffer through another round at Los Verdes... "Thumbs Down" for me!

Overall the course is very good shape, they're working on few area but nothing major. The greens are in excellent shape, especially for a public course. For the money this course is worth playing, and when the fairways improve towards spring and summer then it's definitely a course to play.

For the "money" it's a good public course and right now it's in good shape. I've played a lot worse in my time and for more money so I think it's worth the money. If the course were to roll the greens more often and a few other minor things this has the potential to be a great local course.

It's an OK course, nothing stands out about it except for it's history. The lay out is nothing special, it's kind of plain. For the money it's not worth it, I've played many local courses that are just as good if not better and for half the price; of course I have to load my own clubs on the cart. Perhaps the North course is better??? No matter which course you play... parking seemed a bit confusing and a pain (first time I'd been there), I'd recommend the valet. Whatever the normal price is on anything... at La Costa you basicly just double it... ie. a Miller Lite is usually around $3.00 anywhere... you got it... double it... $6.00... a bit pricey for domestic. 3 coffees to go... $9.00.
Final word... it's not worth the money, there's nothing special about the course; it was dissappointing for me.

The greens are in poor shape... the worst greens I've played 20 years. Beyond very "slow and bumpy"! I thought it's time to punch and sand the greens (it's that time of year) but then someone mentioned that they did this a few weeks ago and he thought the greens were good... for Los Amigos! I know this is an inexpensive course but the greens are so bad that I feel like I've been ripped off. My opinion... go somewhere else, even if it cost more.
