Played 1/5/2015. Tee time at 10:30 with temp in high 50°s with a little wind. Quite pleasant for January (shorts were wearable, but not necessary).

Player card rate was $44. Excellent price for the course conditions. Rates go up in Feb or so, probably starting Super Bowl weekend.

Greens were really good and are speeding up. Getting firmer but you can still leave a ball mark. Pretty consistent with little ball damage. Fairways are also getting firmer, so you get some winter roll. Some areas are a little thin and sporadic divoting on the fairways. Rough is quite playable, not too long and very grassy. Bunkers are good which is not always the case here.

Rough areas, however, are disappearing. Lots of places that uses to be rough are being converted over to desert to save on watering costs. Puts more premium on hitting it straight (which of course is not a concern for us GK golfers).

Range has mats (range balls are extra), but plenty of practice putting areas and a new chipping area next to range has been added in the last few months. Good GPS in carts, water on the course, but bring you own towels.

Service is always great here. Friendly in the pro shop and cart staff. Good size restaurant with both inside and outside service.

Blackbirds/crows on the course will take any food out of your cart. Even a closed bag of chips. Ziplock bags seem to be the best defense.

Both the Palm and the Mountain courses continue to be good places to play in LV.

Played 11/22/2014 at 7:10. Temp is 60's, a little wind, POP was great, less than 3.5 hours.

Quick update from my October review. Course is firming up. Greens are fine and a little quicker than before.

Fairways and rough are not improving. While they are getting firmer, there are many more bare spots now. You can't play the ball down -- too many aeration holes in the fairways and the rough is very inconsistent. But the desert areas have been cleaned out and it's easier to find a wayward shot.

Local rate of $59 is a little pricey for the overall course conditions. But it is pretty easy to get a tee time.

Can only give a luke warm recommendation.

Played 11/8/2014 at 7:24. Temp in 70's with no wind.

Compared with this time last year, course is in much better shape. Only one hole cart path only.

Fairways and rough actually have grass. But they are still quite soft and the grass is clumpy. Often mudballs. Bunkers are good, but some have soft sand and others are very firm.

Greens are very good. Pretty firm, but will leave ball marks. Quite smooth and medium quick, probably around 10. Greens are quite large, but none of the mounding and tiering you see on some courses. You feel you can get chips and long putts somewhere near the hole.

This is just a hard course to play well. Bunkers are everywhere and all are deep. Dormant bermuda around each bunker, so any shots rolling toward the bunkers are collected. Most fairways have bunkers on each side, so no bail out.

Most of the greens are elevated. Best advice is to take an extra club and whack it to the back of the green. A long downhill putt is still better than playing out of the bunkers.

Pace of play was slower than it could have been. Marshal was pretty much nonexistent -- the one time we saw him he did not help. Beverage service was sporadic -- only once each nine.

Carts have decent GPS and coolers with ice. Wet towels are provided and the range balls are included. Grass range and good sized putting green.

Overall, this is a nice facility with a well stocked pro shop and a nice restaurant. Pleasant place to play -- just a challenge to shoot a good score. Green fee was $55 with player card.

Played 10/25/2014 at 7:40. POP about 4 hours. Temp in 80's with a freshening wind toward the end.

Course is a couple weeks out of overseeding and it is in pretty good shape with only one cart path only hole. Fairways are still a little soft, but getting firmer. Rough is good, bunkers are a little thin and tee boxes are OK.

Greens are also quite good. Softer than normal and also slower than I usually see there. I would guess around 10 with some ball marks.

Carts now have GPS. Same system used at Angel Park with the latest wrinkle including video commercials! Audio is very low so the sound is unobtrusive. Marketing guys may wish to rethink the commercials for women's hand lotion as the golf demographic is still more male than female.

Green fees were $59 with player's card -- just slightly higher than the OB Sports rate at their courses on the west side of town. Range balls are included, but grass on range is pretty spotty and the range balls are quite hard. Not a place I would go for serious practice, but OK for warming up.

Decent restaurant with patio. Beverage cart service was regular and friendly. Bag service good. Starter kept things moving. Course uses ten minute intervals for tee times, so play flowed well and marshal was around to check on the pace.

Enjoyable course to play as long as the green fee is reasonable. In the last two previous fall seasons, Arroyo took a long time to come out of overseeding. This year is different. Maybe a new course superintendent.

If you are coming to town soon (or are already here), consider playing Arroyo. If you want to have a fun round, play it one tee up from where you think you should play. The new scorecards have the correct course rating/slope (see Arroyo website) which is higher than shown on the Greenskeeper scorecard info.

Played Canyon/Lakes on 10/20 at 1PM. Temp in 80's with no wind.

Course finally has new carts as of about last April. No cart issues any more. Pedestrian GPS, but ice chests with two comp waters and wet towels. Class operation at this place. Good grass driving range, nice chipping area and large putting greens.

Just coming out of overseeding. Not yet ready for prime time.

Canyon: About back to normal. Fairways and rough are good. Bunkers and tees are good. Greens were aerated about 10 days ago so not as smooth as usual. Canyon is in the best shape of the three nines.

Lakes: Greens were quite smooth, but very soft. Deep ball marks -- even held a five wood into one green. But only recently opened from overseeding. Fairways are pretty furry. Rough is almost 5" -- couple of lost balls in the thick rough. Tees are almost as long as the rough. Course is quite damp and mowing is not back to regular schedule.

Sunrise nine is not available for play.

Entire course still about three weeks away from best playing conditions.

Played two rounds this weekend -- 10/18 and 10/19. No wind temp in 80's.

This is a good course and more challenging than would first appear. Front nine is very open since there is no housing currently being developed. Back nine is tighter and mostly surrounded by housing.

Greens are quite smooth, but on the slow side (around 9). Quite receptive to approach shots. Each green has two or more tiers, so distance control is important. Bunkers are OK -- a little thin of sand and some are muddy.

Fairways have more bare spots than I have seen before, but they are playable. But the rough is good and long enough to be annoying. Course on the soft side -- not much fairway roll and ball picked up some mud.

Good tourist rate around $65 and local (Clark and Nye counties) around $45. Range balls are extra -- and very hard (like hitting stones). But they probably last a long time. Nice grass range with chipping areas, bunkers and large putting greens which are the same speed as the course greens.

Electric carts with ice chests and functional GPS -- just yardage, no pictures. Damp towels are also provided. Beverage service was friendly and regular and water jugs and ball washers are plentiful.

Good place to play. If your swing is working, you can shoot 84 fairly easily. If not, hello 92. Not very crowded, even on a Sat and Sun.

Played 10-14-2014 at 7:10, temp in 70's. Back in Las Vegas for the winter.

The first month after overseeding is always an adventure. The Palm course is in pretty good shape. No cart restrictions.

Fairways are somewhat soft -- not much roll and kind of divotty. Will be better in a few weeks as it grows in and gets firmer. Rough is similar but already growing in with less divots.

Greens were good. This is the only month of the year that the greens are relatively soft -- deep ball marks made by any high shots, but so far players are being good about fixing their marks. Greens are a little slower than normal, but are rolling smooth and true.

Tees are acceptable -- Palm never has great, lush trees -- but you can always find a flat spot to hit from. If you don't use a tee on the par 3's, you will be challenged to find a good spot to hit from.

Bunkers are good -- easy to splash out of.

Early Tuesday golf is great -- not crowded. POP was just over 3 hours and green fee with player card was $49. Angel Park has GPS and ice chests on carts. Beverage service was regular and pro shop and restaurant are top notch. Driving range has mats but plenty of practice putting available.

Palm course is not the hardest course in town, but it is a fun round and good value.

Played 9/8/2014. 8:30 temp in the high 70s with little wind.

Update from my June round. Course still in good shape. Greens seemed a little slower. Bunkers seemed a little firmer.

Wildlife report: marmots were nowhere to be seen. I am told they are hibernating. Would not have known that they did that. Geese are everywhere so watch where you step.

Good value at $60.

Played 9/4/2014 at 11:20, temp around 80°, occasional wind, very light, but variable in direction. Rack rate $200, but NCGA or SCGA members pay $150.

First trip for me to this course. Third day of three day Truckee/Incline golf trip. Jack Nicklaus Signature design. You will love it or hate it. My playing partners thought it was great. I prefer Palmer designs over Nicklaus designs.

The course is gorgeous and the layout is great. Every hole is different. Some doglegs, some straight. Some uphill, some downhill. Some short holes, some long holes. Something for everyone. Pretty narrow with many pine trees and some mountain lakes with a lot of tules. Lots of fairway bunkers. But the fairways lies are relatively flat (unlike Incline Village where there are no flat fairway lies).

Greens: quite firm, around 11 stimp, multitiered, lots of grain. Many are elevated, some have false fronts and collection areas. Most have long rough just off the green which makes chipping very hard.
Fairways: pretty much perfect. Firm with tight lies. Very few fairway divots so never a bad lie.
Rough: Around 3". Ball nestles down. Too be avoided.
Fairway bunkers: Quite deep.
Greenside bunkers: Deeper than fairway bunkers. More than once we had bunker shots from 6 feet below the green surface.

Amentities:
Great practice range. All grass. Large practice putting green with the same speed as the course. Separate chipping area with adjoining deep bunkers so you can experience the bunker play before you actually go to the course.

Starter very friendly and is located adjacent the practice area. He sends groups from there to the first tee which makes for great traffic control. Course marshal was seen about every third hole which minimized any potential backups. We played in 4 hours which I consider amazing since most players are tourists who only play occasionally. Likewise, on course beverage service was more than regular and she has hot dogs and snacks along with drinks which was a big plus because you do not go back to the clubhouse at the turn.

No carts in parking lot, so use the bag drop. Also the cart return is right next to the indoor/outdoor restaurant. There is a bag rack right there so you can keep an eye on your clubs while you have drink/food on the patio.

No GPS. Buy the $5 course layout booklet. You will need it for the carry distance to and over the fairway bunkers and water features. Ice chests on carts and water stations about every three holes.

Excellent golf experience. Feels like a private club. If you like Nicklaus designs, this is one of the best I have played. If you don't want to feel like you have been in a prize fight when you are finished, play Gray's Crossing.

Played 9/3/2014 at 11:20, temp in high 70s with swirling wind but nothing above 10 mph. My first visit to this course. We had booked online at a $175 rate, but they were having a special M/T/W rate this week of $100.

At $100 this course is a steal. Really nice layout mostly in a valley or meadow among lots of pine trees. Although this is still mountain golf, the course is quite fair. Most of the lies are relatively flat and most of the greens have only subtle breaks (unlike my round the day before at Incline Village).

Since I play a lot in Nevada, this short side trip to Truckee was a surprise since the greens are bent grass. You can actually leave a ball mark and the greens have lots of grain.

Absolutely no complaints about course conditions. Greens, fairways, rough and tees were all nicely green and smooth. Bunkers were also good.

Pace of play was somewhat disappointing since we were behind two foursomes that had a joint game ongoing. All were playing the Blues and the group in front of us was overmatched by the blue yardage. The marshal was on their case but there was only so much he could do.

Amentities:
Great practice facilities. Range balls included in cost. Grass hitting areas, two putting greens and a practice chipping/bunker area.
Electric carts with complimentary water in the ice chest. No GPS and no ball washer on the cart. You definitely need GPS as there are a lot of hidden areas to carry in the fairway, mostly on your approach shot to the green. Beverage cart service was regular and the bag guys were friendly and helpful with tips about playing the course.

A nice variety of short and long, straight and dogleg holes. But lots of pine trees along the sides of each hole, so straightness if critical. It was a perfect day for golf and a wonderful course to play. A little pricey at the regular rack rate, but a great value if you can get a reduced rate.

Played 9/2/2014, temp in 80s no wind.

Course is much improved since my last visit three years ago. Greens are very firm, but smooth and medium fast. Fairways and rough were green -- a few bare spots in the fairway; rough was long and thick. Tees are fine, with some bare spots, especially on the par 3s. Bunkers are deep; fairway bunkers do not allow shots to the green.

Course is tight; seems every hole is a dog leg. Lots of overhanging trees, particularly off the tee so you have to aim correctly. Very hilly, no flat lies.

Just a tough course to play. IMO much harder than Edgewood which at least has many more flat lies.

Range included in green fees, but I hate hitting from mats. Nice putting green which is the same speed as the course greens. Cart guys were prompt both coming and going, beverage cart service was good and folks were generally friendly and appreciative that we were there.

GPS on carts is quite good. Shows each hole layout and distance to bunkers, creeks, and green. Shows the exact hole location and distance to flag so there must be some communication between flagstick and GPS unit.

If you want to play a tough course and have $180 to spare, Incline is your course.

Played 8/18/2014.

Short update from review last month. Bare spots are significantly less. Course is now quite nice. Greens were not lightning quick, but still difficult to putt because of the mountain effect.

Other aspects of my previous review remain the same.

Good course to play. Highly recommended.
