Never, ever again. I read the reviews and was really hoping to actually finish a round on a public golf course in California. I give up. The course condition is atrocious. Ball on dirt as often as grass. Now, to be honest, the staff was very nice, and the greens were smooth and true, but those cannot offset the minuses. Caught a trio on the second hole and waited the entire front nine. Still finished in about 2h 10m, but then we hit the wall. We were on a solid 3+hour back nine when I walked off after 13. This is the fifth time in three weekends I have left a course due to pace of play (add San Clement and San Juan Hills to the horrible pace club). I don't get the 5-6+ hour pace here. Venting, but it's really frustrating to spend a day standing, standing and standing versus actually playing golf.

Do not expect anything spectacular as far as course condition, however the layout is nice. I would play again. The greens were still a little bumpy from the aeration but would have to guess they are in good condition now.

If they would simply water the course more and stop giving seniors insanely low rates then this would be one of the best courses in San Diego county hands down. I have played great courses all over this State (Torrey, Pebble and more) and this is one of the best layouts in so cal. Right now the greens are THE BEST in San Diego area. It's the fairways and rough where this course suffers. Some heat needs to be put on the City to maintain this great course and the effort will pay off.

Rough was poor at best, very dry and many bare spots. Fairways were much like the rough, while I only saw a couple of sprayed drop areas some of them were mostly bare with some grass patches. Fairways were very dry. While the course is , for the most part flat, it has the potential to be challenging with many trees and some water.

Played 1/16/09 on a sunny and beautiful day. The greens were medium fast, some were bumpy, held well struck shots, but were hard when chipping. The rough was non existant with large areas with no grass, only sandy bare areas. Some fairways had ground under repair areas. No overseeding done and course conditions are better in warmer weather. The front nine plays easier with holes 14 to 18 offering a stern test.

Quirky is probably the best description of the layout here. While this is a traditional golf course, it is anything but straight forward with several severe doglegs and a substantial amount of water/lateral hazards to contend with.. This is not a course where you will hit driver 14 times. There are really no houses on the course so it is quite peaceful. There is a significant afternoon wind that usually blows through the river valley.

This was my first round here in several years. Being all too familiar with the poor condition of courses that are managed by American Golf, I was anxious to what the course looked like under new management. Unfortunately, the current conditions were reminiscent of American Golf.

To be fair, there were a few bright spots. The staff was outstanding, with an especially friendly marshal. The greens are better than average and faster than one would expect when you see the condition of the rest of the course. Fortunately, I was not in any bunkers, but no one else complained about them, though some looked shy on sand. We played in the late afternoon and the course was nearly empty so we were able to play at a nice pace. The price was extremely reasonable at $21 to walk.

The overall condition of the fairways (and other areas that should theoretically have grass) is pathetic. The fairways were so bad that someone would burn through several cases of white spray paint cans marking what should be considered ground under repair. Some of the areas in the fairway were hardpan that showed no evidence that grass had ever been growing there. The rough was sometimes complete hard pan and other times un-mown pockets 3-4 inches thick.

I won’t be back until I hear of improved fairway conditions, but it is a good bang-for-the-buck if you can live with the fairways and rough.

The course is worth $20 not $29 to walk. The greens and bunkers are good which makes the course playable. Areas around the driving range and first tee have been nicely re-landscaped. I hope the new management does something about the ugly fairways and rough.

I played with stickboy on sat 3/21 and I must say this place has done a 180 since the last time I played here when american golf was in charge. Everything was a little nicer including the fairways all the way to the greens. They have top notch driving range all grass. And all the divots were filled in with sand everywhere on the course from range to fairway I could not believe it. People were fixing there ball marks, its just something you don't see everyday. If it wasn't 50 miles away I would play there more often.
