I played Tuesday and teed off at about 8:30. It was the first time I had made the drive down there since American Golf has been gone. I have always really liked the layout of the golf course, and that remains unchanged. As far as course conditions, I don't see a huge difference (keeping in mind that it is winter). From tee box to green, the conditions are pretty much standard muni. The greens, however, were fantastic. Very fast and true. The driving range is all grass and very nice. If I lived a little closer I would play here often. It is challenging, walkable and relatively inexpensive.... One other thing, since it is raining, this course didn't used to drain very well after a significant rain. There will be lots of standing water if you play after a storm.

Perfect for advanced and average golfers. You would think givin the short yardage it would be an easy course but it's anything but. When I bring people here they always like it. It's also one of the quietest courses you'll play anywhere. A morning round here is a real treat.

The Oceanside Golf Course is a public course with a great location and rates. Rates are lower for city residents, but we paid around $32 for a Saturday morning game. Located in Oceanside near Camp Pendleton, this course as great views of hills and animals such as ducks, rabbits, squirrels, and chipmunks. There are several water hazards and ravines that challenge good shot calling.

The course displays two faces depending on rain. When it's sunny, the course is mild with a great view of the wilderness on the back nine. The 12th hole is a shot up a hill, so stay pumped walking up. When you get to the 13th hole, you get a nice high par 3 straight downwards to the pin. Careful on the way down, if it's slippery you'll go down like a bob sled on the slick cart path with your cleats.

If you play the course after a rain, then the course becomes a challenge with portions of the course flooding making relatively simple shots very complicated. So be prepared to lose balls in newly formed lakes that you weren't used to if you only play in normal So. Cal weather.

Great price for a North County San Diego golf course. The Oceanside Golf Course has several dog legs make this a challenging course begging you to power a shot through trees if you have the guts. Great scenic locations once you get away from the front of the course. Speed of play not too shabby, no back-ups past 1-2 groups.

Awesome course for the money. One of the more challenging courses around. Trouble awaits almost every shot. If you havn'e had the opportunity to play you need to get out there and try it.

Played Saturday October 20 for the first time at this track. Played one group behind a local bar's golf event - thus a 5 1/2 hour round. However, the weather was great and we knew we would be able to finish well before dark.

The greens were still bumpy from the recent punching, but held any decent approach shot. The condition of the course was fair at best. Remember, this is major maintenance season (over seeding, punching greens) for most local courses. This time of year the water hazzards trend to dry up. On hole 11 there are many golf balls in the muddy rim of the lake. Enter at your own risk- David will attest to that. Craig did warn you!!

The course is easy to walk, but beware of holes 12 (severe uphill green) and 13 (short-down hill par 3) as the hill is steep. Also, beware of other golfers on these holes as their design invites blind shots, especially if one slices their drive on 12 which will probably land near the 13th green. The best part of the course are holes 14 to 18. These require long and straight drives for any chance to hit the green in regulation. Hole 17 is a very tight par 5 and 18 is a fine dogleg right finishing hole.

That said, an honest evaluation is that while the greens were very nice, they were too slow! Fairways for the most part, decent, but there are so so many areas in the rough and adjacent to the fairways which are so scruffy it makes the place look totally uncared for. The course is playable, but looks bad!! What a little TLC would do for this place!

I play her alot since I live here so I want to give others an honest opinion of this course. They have had the same bad areas for 15 years and it never gets better. You will have to play winter rules in the fairways at just about any time of the year. This is one of the best layouts you'll find anywhere in so cal but the management will not raise the green fees to improve the conditions. I challange anyone to find a tougher 6500 yard course. The price is way too low and that's why the conditions are so so all the time (greens are OK). If another company would come in here and outbid American Golf for the lease and spend some money this would be a top 10 course in so cal. There is so much potential at this course it is sickening. The people that work here are good people but the Management Company is for crap and "American Golf" should say it all. It's worth the drive to experience this course and I encourage you to express your opinions to the course manager. All in all, this is a really cool course and if you agree to play winter rules in the fairways you'll really enjoy it.
