Played Ojai Valley Inn with JohnnyGK, Toprank and a buddy from the tips this afternoon 8/10. Had never played here before. What a special track and golf course. The service was very good here. The practice facility was great...big driving range, plenty of putting greens and a nice sized chipping green. The pro-shop was beautiful and the restaurant food was very good. The staff really took care of us.

The course itself is a par 70 traditional type layout that reminded me of Riviera CC. There are many tight tree lined holes where you will work the ball either way off the tee. We kept commented that the Senior PGA tour guys really must have had a workout in that this is not an easy course to walk. There are many elevated tee shots here and hills that you shoot up and down. The greens were in great shape, rolling true and holding iron shots and chips beautifully. The fairways were thick and lush and almost every lie in the fairway was pristine. I was in 4 bunkers today...plenty of sand...it looked hardpan and wet but played soft and beautiful. The tee boxes were lush and had very little divot damage. The ROUGH here is like no rough I have ever played before. You need to make sure that you are precise with your irons and for most holes you need to be on the greens and not in the Kikuya rough around the greens...it is penal and will cost you at least a stroke, very thick and spongy. The pace of play was excellent today. The carts did not have GPS but had pin placements sheets. I would recommend a skycaddie here to get your yardages. The front nine is the tighter nine visually and the first 4 or 5 holes on the back nine open up some. Every hole brings something new at the Inn. Your money(tough) holes are #7, #11, #16 and #18. The overall conditions were fabulous, this is a course that you will want to play again and again.

Played this course on 10/1. As usual for this course it was in great shape and we took advantage of the special replay rate and played another 9 holes after lunch.

Played this course on 10/1. As usual for this course it was in great shape and we took advantage of the special replay rate and played another 9 holes after lunch.

Bunkers are sand rather than the dirt that is usual for a lot of SoCal courses these days.

Since it was during the week there was very light play and we could play at our own pace without waiting or being pushed by following groups. There are some overhanging trees that we all managed to find from the tee boxes so those presented a little extra challenge.

Love this layout and it's great that the course has finally completed the renovation of the lodge. Cart girls were a little scarce in 90+ degree heat but there were water coolers on the course so we were able to deal with it.

Greens were true with good speed.. Putts actually tracked a little straighter than we would have figured without any ball marks to interfere or elephants buried under the surface.

If you get a chance, I highly recommend the trip to Ojai.

Greens were a little bumpy on the back nine and slower as the afternoon progressed. Was disappointed that the cart girl closed up at 4:30. There are no coolers on the carts, no towels and no gps. I only mention this because of the normal green fee (high) and the heat during summer. Water coolers were well-placed arount the course. Although this was a day trip for me I'd like to bring the wife back. Nice looking resort. For $160 there are better courses; at $79 (or $59 on specials) this is a great bargain!

Sand traps in play every hole, plenty of trouble if you do not find the fairways off the tee, suttle breaks on the greens that are bigger than you expect, overall a good experience and a fun test of golf. A little pricee because it is a resort course but a must for anyone who can play there.

Played the $59 email special today. ($179 is out of my normal price range.) Great day! Can't say enough about how the greens played...just great and couldn't tell they were recently punched. The tee boxes were punched recently but it didn't affect play at all. A few fairways had a bare spot or two but not that you really noticed. Not too crowded either which is odd considering it was the "email special" day. We had 5 with two tee times but ended up playing together whcih was nice. Never waited, never held anyone up though we let two smaller groups play through at the turn. To top it off the promised mid-day rainstorm never showed up until long after we left!

Played 2/24. Unbelievable scenery. Greens were fantastic. Two very different nines. I loved the back nine. Number 18 is as good a golf hole you will ever find. I teed off on 10 and was overwhelmed with how good the course layout was. That was until I got to the front nine. The front nine is good, just not as great as the backside. Kind of disappointed with the par 3's on the front. One played at about 115 from the tips, and the other about 125. Hard to believe they were able to have the pros out there with chip-shot par threes. I am still very glad that I played it. In fact, after 18, I went back and played 10-18 again. The mountain backdrop when you tee off 10 is spectacular. And when you get back to 15 and 16, the scenery is equally awesome. Great contours on the greens. I agree with others that $170 may be too steep for this course, but the twilight fee of $79 was well worth it. You do get a feeling you are at a special place when you play here. Old school charm.
