My wife and I played Cave Creek Golf Course on 10-25-16. We arrived half an hour before our tee time and were told we could start at any time. We chose to practice on the putting green for a few minutes and started 15 minutes before our scheduled time. The service in the pro shop and on the course from the Rangers was very good. The course is a Phoenix Muni but the fairways and greens would be acceptable at a moderately priced private club. The tee boxes were generally okay but a few had either divot damage or uneven lies. The rough varied from thin dormant bermuda grass and bare dirt to lush thick overseeded rye grass mixed with common bermuda grass. I was not in any bunkers but they looked to be of average condition. The course is just coming out of the over seed process and is allowing carts only on cart paths or rough. Check greenskeeper.org for updates

I played Cave Creek on a 730 tee time. The course was fairly busy but I was able to get out as a single but was constantly waiting with a number of threesomes and foursomes in front of me. The pace of play wasn't horrible but I could have gotten around quicker.
The course is OK for the price but I don't think I would go back. I didn't really like the layout and none of the holes really stood out to me as fun or great. It's a pretty basic golf course.
The tee boxes were OK with many not level and hard to get a tee in. The fairways had a large number of bare spots with not much grass on them. Areas off the fairway did have some rough but mostly bare dirt or dead grass.
The greens were the best part of the course. They were all consistent but putted very slow. I really had to hammer the putt to get it close to the hole. Sand traps were in good shape.
You can tell this place gets a lot of play but I'm not sure why. I think Encanto and Aguila are better municipal courses at the same price.

Played Sunday 10/27, 10:34 tee time, starter let me and one other single out 30 minutes early. Course did not seem that crowded, but POP was still 4.5 hours. CC has just finished their fall overseed, so holes 1 & 10 were cart path only and the rest were okay to drive in the rough.

Definitely want to keep it on the fairways, were coming in nice and lush...the rough, such as it is, does not get seeded at all, so balls hooked or sliced can find themselves with an unplayable lie in one of the course's many gulleys. Tee boxes were in good condition, as were the aforementioned fairways. The greens have not yet been cut, and were extremely slow, like croquet mallet slow. My playing partner skulled one shot from 15 yards off the green, and, by all rights, the ball should have ended up 20 yards past the green. Instead, it settled in on the green, maybe 20 feet from the hole. Once they start cutting them, I'm sure the speed will pick up. Other than the extreme slowness, they were in very good condition. Bunkers had plenty of sand, very playable.

As for the facilities and amenities, this is a city of Phoenix course, so don't expect TPC Scottsdale when you pull up. There is a huge driving range on the other side of the parking lot (and it is a long walk with your clubs to the hitting area, as well as putting green and chipping area. Carts are motorized and in need of service, and do not come with coolers, so bring your own. Friendly service inside the clubhouse and from the cart girl, seems to be a course the locals play over and over.

The course itself is a decent challenge for the mid-to-high handicappers. While the yardage is not overly long (6772 from the tips and 6199 from the Blues), with all the fresh grass and moisture in the fairways the course did seem to play a little longer on many holes. Cave Creek is a nice course for the price, but not one I'd go out of my way to include on my itinerary.

Well I see someone used the same description for a course as me? Dog Track. In all my years of golfing, I remember some bad courses; conditions, etc. But this course was the worse. How about a 407 yard hole (# 1 hcp) with a 20 foot drop into a pit? No mention of it anywhere? The course is brown, the sand is hard, the water hazards are dry, the greens suck. Enough said. Do not waste your time/money on this course. Too many good ones in Phoenix that do take care of their courses. If this is part of the City of Phoenix golf course list, then after seeing this cow pasture I do not want to see the others.
