So I thought I would give Foxtail another chance. I last played it on Easter Sunday. I figured I would give it five months to recover. Unfortunately... it has gotten nothing but worse. Sorry to say this, because it's a short drive to get to the course and it's a nice layout. But the conditions are now officially in the "terrible" range. I cannot believe the shape of the fairways. They are beyond description. So bad. Gopher holes. Flooding. Bare spots. Un-mowed sections. It looks like a greenskeeper has not seen this place in 6-months. I shan't be back. Sorry to say. At $32 for a walking senior rate, it's still not worth it. Rest in peace, Foxtail... you are dead to me.

Played on Easter Sunday with my brand new TaylorMade P790 irons. The South Course is the shorter of the two 18's here. I picked it because I wanted to see how my new irons performed. BTW they are amazing! The South Course was in great shape. The rough was long and juicy! So much recent rain made it difficult to mow the rough. You could lose a ball so easily... even tracking it to a 1' square area... it could disappear! Lesson... stay out of the rough!! The fairways were really nice. No complaints. Very lush. And really GREEN! The greens had been punched and sanded about 10 days before... very playable!! Oh... I will be back! I love this course! It is the home Course for Sonoma State University! Highly recommended!

Was able to get out pretty much immediately on South after finishing on North. Very inexpensive replay rate, so it was a great deal for all 36. Teed off by myself a little before 4:00 and then joined another single on the 2nd tee. The threesome ahead of us and that guy I was playing with left after nine, so I got to run free for the first half of the back nine until I caught a log jam of groups and the final 4 holes took awhile. Still finished in about 2.5 hours, so no complaints.

I'd say course conditions were pretty comparable, but probably just a notch down from the North. There were more soft spots throughout South as they have been watering generously. Overall, though, the tee boxes, fairways and rough were pretty good. The greens were much softer on this side and rolling slower, but I would dare to say a little smoother surfaces on South than North. I wasn't in any bunkers, but they appeared as inconsistent as North with a handful featuring new sand and others looking terrible.

This is one of those cases where the South is clearly viewed as the red-headed stepchild of the facility. Everyone I talked to praised the North and gave South a "meh" at best. Therefore, I came in with low expectations that were easily exceeded. I enjoyed South. It's pretty straightforward, but feels a little narrower off the tee. The greens are smaller and there were some really tricky pin placements today. I would still rank North over South in terms of overall layout and conditions, but I wouldn't say it's that huge a gap based on my experience today. I do like that both courses offer something a little different and cheaper rates can always be found on South.

My review is.... go play the north course. It's worth the extra money. The greens were the only thing in shape on this course. This course has had issues for a long time now.

A quiet Thursday afternoon, 1:30 tee time, allowed our 2 ball a 4 hour pace on a Fair to Good course with average challenge, and groomed quite well. Good grill/staff, nice range and practice areas. Mostly lush around the course, but severe drying in many locations making fairways, tees, and sand distressed. Greens are very good; smooth, soft and quite fast, and rough immediately around the greens lush, around 1-2 inches. Sand is poor. Good attention to maintenance around the course, few drinks cart passes, and just a few water fountains. With a deal, it is worth it for working on your game. I used most of the clubs in the bag.

Played 4th of July weekend - $25 to walk. Great value. We (foursome) teed off at 7:00 AM and were done at 11:15. Marshals were on duty and very attentive to pace of play. Look out for some rugge... Continue »

Played 4th of July weekend - $25 to walk. Great value. We (foursome) teed off at 7:00 AM and were done at 11:15. Marshals were on duty and very attentive to pace of play. Look out for some rugged tee boxes that even lack flat ground at times. Tree-lined fairways were looking green and lush - as were the greens. Bunkers were decent. Had a great time, I'd go back.

By far the cheapest full 18 in Sonoma County, you can easily find rates for weekend riding in the $19-$39 range. Rough in sports and just kind of boring, in and out, straight and.....well you get the picture. Weird thing is this course always plays wet, they over water the hell out of it.

Driving range is mats only, large practice putting green and a chipping green. The practice sand trap is over by the lesson tee.

With the Sonoma Amateur Champs 15/16 May, the course is presenting well. Greens are superb, holding, a bit bumpy but good. Fairways dry and running and in fair shape; thinning of grass evident. Most ... Continue »

With the Sonoma Amateur Champs 15/16 May, the course is presenting well. Greens are superb, holding, a bit bumpy but good. Fairways dry and running and in fair shape; thinning of grass evident. Most tees are a little rough and none are level, sand in poor shape with some bunkers vacant of sand. Rough is around 1-2 inches, growing to 3 inches in secondary cut, but dry. Layout traditional with average challenge. Only fair shape all around with good customer service, drinks cart attendance and nice marshals. Worth a look over the rest of June. golfnow 'hot deals tee times' $16 riding.
