This was the main round today. ppark81 splurged for a room at the Rosewood Sand Hill, which comes with access to the Stanford private course. I was able to tag along as a guest. Green fee very high at $190 and the course really isn't worth that kind of lofty price tag other than the exclusivity. We had a 12:30 tee time and were paired with two students who were both beginners. We ultimately had to split off from them to keep from clogging up the course, but it was slow going ahead of us anyway and we finished in a 4.5-hour pace. Very busy out there.

The course was in good overall condition for winter. Not the ideal time of year to play here. Very soft throughout as you might expect, but maintained pretty well. Tee boxes good. Fairways mostly good, just no roll-out and a lot of soft turf underneath for plenty of fat shots. Rough lush and pretty punitive, especially if you found some really deep stuff on the outer edges. Bunkers had awesome sand, though one I found provided an unfortunately lumpy lie. Greens were great, rolling well at medium-quick speeds. Best to stay below the hole when you can. Most of the greens here are quite big.

Nice overall layout. The back nine definitely outshines the front with more changes in elevation. Good collection of par-3s, with four of the five hitting over a small river/creek that runs through the course. I ended up liking the course a lot, but I wouldn't put it in the class of some of the other top Bay Area private clubs I've played.

Played it 9/18/13@ 11:40..78 Degrees. Par 70. Course is in good condition well maintained, Greens were running about 10 on the stimp and holding shots. A little grainy but I like these type because they are easy to read. At first we thought it was going to be a slow day as a 3some of elder gents in their 80s teed off before us but we did not have to wait that much throughout and made it in 4 1/2 hours. I played it before but it was in foggy conditions and it a lot easier this time around and I think the rough was shorter this time. It starts out with a dogleg left par 5 that you have to hit over a busy street(but not in view)tight bunkered landing area but reachable in 2. There is a horse stable you play around the next few holes, The rest are kind of flat untill you get to #9 short par 4 uphill, hidden landing area. I hit a cut 5 wood in the middle and never found it, Everything tilts to a creek. The back 9 is tougher as there was more elevation and the wind started picking up. #12 has 2 trees in the middle of the fairway and depending on where the flag is is where to hit the tee shot but it is not a place to hit a slice as you will be in the creek. #13 is a nice hole that to me looks like Allister Mackenzie had some influence as there is bunkering 30 yards from the green. I also noticed some bunkers with the "Mackenzie fingers" through out the course. 18 is a nice short finishing hole with a breathtaking view from the tee box and a tough dowhill lie 2nd shot. Overall very nice course they done a nice job..Also the restuarant was recently remodeled this year. If you get a chance to play it well worth taking the day off.
