Played here yesterday with Nickesquire1. Hadn't been here in 10 years. This is an older course in a beautiful suburban setting with lots of trees and doglegs which makes you have to shape many shots. That part I really enjoyed. The extended dry weather has caused the rough areas to dry out and be quite thin in most areas causing challenging shots from tight lies. The greens were medium fast and rolled true though bumpy occasionally. Overall, for the price it is an okay value and worth the occasional visit.

i played meriwether as part of a 4 ball today. it was extremely enjoyable. firstly i would like to address the previous reviews by NICKESQUIRE1. the golf course is not 'waiting for the rainy season'. it is central line irrigation. which means the there just sprinklers up the middle of the fairways and not out in the rough. this means that when irrigating you might hit some of the rough, but for the most part you just have water hitting the fairways. it is an old style irrigation system, but it is a huge huge HUGE expense to install a new one.
anyway. back to the review. it has been a while since i played and was extremely happy with how the course played. fairways were lush and green, played real nice off them. the rough was brown due to the hot weather there has been, but gave fantastic contrast to the fairways. hard pan is part of golf, it always has been and always will. it is just part of it. you make do with it! the surrounds around greens were also lush and easy to play off. we played the north and south as our 18 holes.
i strongly disagree with NICKESQUIRE1 review of the south. it is far from a waste of money. the greens roll great. visually they might not look the most appealing in the world at times, but they roll true and good pace. at the end of the day, i dont care one bit what the greens look like if when i putt on them, they roll true. that is all that matters right??

The greens are somewhat bumpy, but putt surprisingly well, medium fast. They hold approach shots very well. The tees are decent. The fairways are generally lush with a few areas that will produce tight lies. I wasn't in any traps, but they looked well maintained.

They obviously have chosen to let the rough go and wait on the rainy season, they have not watered it very much. The rough is brownish, strawlike hardpan in most places. This produces some long drives, but creates entirely different problems when you roll through the rough into a hazard, as I did twice today on drives that would have been in play with anything close to normal rough. The lack of rough also creates issues when you are trying to chip off it close to some greens.

The course wasn't overly busy and overall, is a good value for the price.

Played 27 holes, first the South, then the normal West-North 18 hole combo. This almost needs to be two SEPARATE reviews, the conditions are that different.

The South is the nine that they send you off on if you are only playing nine holes. It is actually the longest of the three nines @ 3406 from the blues. It is also the most open of the three nines, only 1 + 9 had water hazards and I don't remember any fairway bunkers.

The condition of the South course is FAR worse than the West-North 18 hole combo. On the South, the entire nine severely needed watering. There were several greens that had fairly large areas that had no grass. Despite the way they looked and the bare areas, they actually putted decently, firm and medium fast, The rough was burned and was like hardpan with a little straw on top. On several par 4's that were doglegs, I aimed straight @ the green and the combination of cutting off the corner and my drive rolling forever in the burned out "rough" hardpan, left me with chips into 360 to 380 yard par 4's. The fairways & tees were OK, some spots were lush, some spots were thin. The only thing I would say that was in good condition was the traps, they were all freshly raked with good sand.

Do NOT waste you $$$ or time on the South course unless you would prefer to practice on a course rather than a driving range. I would rate it below a 5.0 on the GK scale.

The normal West-North 18 hole combo was FAR superior to the South, but still in not nearly as good a condition as when I played here 5 weeks ago. It has been better watered and maintained than the South, but everything from the fairways to the greens are VERY firm and it is playing MUCH shorter than the 6719 it is listed on the scorecard. A couple of holes I hit Driver on 5 weeks ago and kept it in the fairway I was hitting a 3I on today because the ball was rolling so much farther. The greens were getting faster and faster as the day went on, they were scary fast by the end of the day, so much so that if you were above the hole, a mere tap may leave you 6-8 ft. coming back. It was amazing how fast the greens were because they were actually bumpy, the putts would often fish-tail and you could putt the same putt three times and have a little left, straight and a little right result on a seemingly straight 6-8' putt.

The normal West-North 18 hole combo was more like a 6.5 to 7.0 on the GK scale. It was OK, but unless they water it more or it rains a decent amount soon, these two nines could go downhill fast.

Another thing that warrants mentioning in this review is the course management. There were no Marshall's or Drink cart people, only a few maintenance workers were visible anywhere on the entire 27 holes. Two straight groups in front of me on the normal West-North 18 hole combo went off mid morning with little kids. The little boy in the first group was maybe 8-9 and probably belonged on a par three course, at most an executive course. Then the next group was a 5some where none of the players hit anything close to a decent drive on the first hole... and the mom & dad were coaching their 5-6 year old daughter and she was playing as their 5th.

To their credit, the Pro Shop let me switch and play the South instead of waiting behind those two groups. After waiting on the tee and witnessing the above, I walked back over to the Pro Shop & cleared changing 9's with the Pro Shop, met up with a single, walked over to the South 9, we both teed off and were walking around the lake to play our 2nd shots... And the little girl was STILL swinging and missing on the Red tee of hole #1.

just got done playing 27 holes at meriwether national. i played the South and then West and North (regular 18). i was extremely surprised with how great the condition was. the greens were fast and true. extremely firm and a true test of your putting stroke. the tee boxes were in great shape, no problem trying to get a tee in the ground, which can be a challenge at time during the summer. fairways had a great roll to them and ball sat up really nicely on them. the rough was browning out and thin in the areas that the irrigation couldn't reach, but that is to be expected with the central line irrigation down the center of fairways. they seem to have recently completed a bunker renovation on West/North course and in the middle of it on the South. it looks amazing. sand levels were good and bunkers were consistent throughout. they do look great and are alot larger and extremely well maintained, especially the work on #8 West, the Par 3 bunker was an eye sore and now it is a true feature of the hole. all in all i was more then happy with the experience here again. the flowers at the entry way right through to the fantastic green color throughout the course made it a pleasure to play on. i will be back again, SOON!!!!

First time here, 27 hole facility. Enjoyed a nice round with Tocho261, we played the West-North combo. The layout was generally open with a nice mixture of short, medium and longer holes, many mature trees and enough water to keep you honest.

The greens were recently vericutt and were discolored. However, they generally putted well, firm and medium fast. The tees and fairways were for the most part in good shape, usually lush. The rough was neatly mowed down and was very lush. The sand was new and fluffy, traps were well maintained.

Overall, nice course to walk, I will definitely be back.

Meriwether is a 36 hole complex with the original 18 hole course (West/North 9s), the South 9 and a 9 hole "practice course. There's a big driving range with mats and a grass tee as well as several practice greens near #1 on each 9. I played the 18 hole course today in preparation for the Oregon Public Links event coming up.

The entire property is very flat. There are plenty of tree-lined, dogleg holes (especially on the North) and a few water hazards that come into play. It being the heart of summer, the course is very firm and fast right now. The course is 6700 from the tips, but certainly shorter with the hard turf. The greens are all poa annua and were quick, but a little bumpy.

Overall, Meriwether is pretty inexpensive to play, but there are better options nearby (The Reserve is right down the road). It serves a sizable golf community concerned with cost. It's a pretty laid back atmosphere. It's just not a course worth going out of your way to play.

I will say a highlight was the BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich in the club restaurant.
