played here saturday 12/16 as a threesome. never played here before, but thinking it was a course along the river, figured it'd be fairly flat. WRONG. this is a pretty tough course for walkers, with a lot of ups and downs and long tee to green walks through some interesting terrain.

certainly not a very pretty course as it runs alongside the river. many holes are very very narrow and close to each other, so it's very target golf oriented. not a forgiving course, especially if you're not sure where to miss. a lot of tiny fairways that roll out into a sandy/watery wasteland area. some of those sandy areas are very beach-like and you can hit off them but not fun.

tee boxes were all pretty beat up, fairways had decent lies, some better than others. greens are in good shape but could not judge speeds on them all day. some were very soft, many of the greens are also very small.

pace of play is awful. basically a wait on every tee box, sometimes 2 groups behind. overall a little over 5.5 hours. as i mentioned, not a course conducive to walking as there were no benches anywhere on the course. there was a cart girl, but she was parked.

definitely won't be coming back here any time soon as the course is just too gimicky for my liking

First time out at Chester Washington Saturday 10:40a as a threesome paired with a single. There's a smallish range with some targets along with a large putting green steps away from the first teebox. Seems to be a cart shortage here as they didn't let us check in until 10 minutes before our teetime.

Just from looking out at the course I was curious why it seems to rate so low because visually it looked pretty good. My suspicion is simply that the POP here is brutal. First tee was 3 groups backed up so we didn't get out until closer to 11:15. And then hole 2 is immediately a par 3 which necessitated another lengthy wait, so the first three holes took over an hour. Front 9 clocked in at 3 hours. Thankfully at the turn we skipped ahead of a group that went to get food, so the back 9 felt like we were flying by comparison (still took over 2 hours).

Now, POP aside, I really enjoyed this course. First 6 holes are a mix of longish par 3s and shortish par 4s. Fairly straight forward and scorable. Then the course starts adding some length and elevation and narrows your landing spots. The back 9 is somewhat of a replay, starting off easy then adding some length and some narrow fairways.

I managed to score well, considering I only hit 1 fairway on the front, but thankfully the rough isn't penal, although there is definitely tree trouble throughout. Sand was a mixed bag: some bunkers were muddy and some were dry without a lot of sand. Greens weren't bad, but they also had a lot of unfixed pitch marks. They were very soft and receptive to spike marks, especially around the cup, so putting later in the day can get challenging. They were rolling about a medium speed overall.

In summation, a fun day on a nice track, vibes overall were very chill, so I would come back for sure. Just need to make sure to block out a 6 hour round lol

Even though I work nearby I hardly ever play here - last time was Feb - but since I had a free afternoon the day before Thanksgiving I found a noon tee time and decided to walk and see how the course is doing.

Since football season is winding down I'd hoped that the worst of the fairway damage has passed, but honestly the fairways were in better shape than I'd anticipated. Besides the white parking lines marking up the fairways you would probably have never known. Not to say the fairways are in great shape, but they're playable.

It's a tricky course, fairly narrow in spots, and even if you manage to keep it in play, the greens were absolutely brutal!! Some of the fast muni greens I've ever played on. If you're above the hole, RIP. Getting the speed right was a challenge all day, and some pin positions were diabolical.

Tee boxes were in mostly good shape, fairways provided good roll out, was in one bunker and it needed some sand but it was playable. It was a beautiful day for a walk, POP was about 4.5 and the scenery was very nice. I'll probably be back here sooner rather than later

Went out Sunday morning walking as a single, got paired with another threesome and another single. In all the years I've played Alhambra I didn't know they let out fivesomes! It actually worked out great for POP (a shade under 4.5 hours) as we never had to wait, nor did the group behind us. Just flowed really nicely (to my surprise)

Excited to see the teeboxes healed up and lush. And the greens are really phenomenal, the best they've ever been. They must have gotten rolled that day because they were faster than i ever remembered them being. Rolling really pure, so good. Honestly, the course is probably in the best shape it's been in a while, kudos to them.

And if you have an Alhambra city card, it's $30 to walk on weekends?? To me, the best value in golf, but I might be biased as I love this course.

Had plans out near the airport so wanted to get a round in nearby and Alondra seemed to fit the bill. Place has a nice practice area, multiple putting greens and a chipping area as well as a good sized covered range. So that's the good. The actual course is in fair shape at best. Tee boxes are pretty chewed up and not level in places. Fairways don't have a lot of green grass so what you get is a lot of firm dried out spots with lots of roll out. Unfortunately it's hard to tell where that roll out leads to so your ball can take some funky bounces.

To me, the track itself is very friendly, with mostly straight holes and giant fairways. Even with some breeze it's not too difficult, tho it does have some decent length in spots. Annoying on 11 which is a very short par 4 I hit what i thought was a perfect drive that should have wound up maybe 50 yards short of the green but my ball just disappeared. No idea where i couldn't have kicked off to. The condition of the course makes it pretty hard to locate your shot as white balls sort of blend into everything. There's also an issue where driving range balls wind up all over certain holes.

The greens at least were decent, though soft and spongy and slow. Bunkers were extremely thin with very little sand.

I'd say this course is a decent place for someone new to the game to play (and for the 5 hour POP I think that's the case), but for decent players I'd think it'd be pretty boring. Just lots of flat terrain with very little deviation. Easy to walk at least! Maybe if it were in better shape it could be fun to go low but for what it costs, I'll have to pass.

Walked Wilson Sunday 9/4 with 3 other walkers. First time playing the course and was eager to see how it compares it to Harding. Main difference seems to be length as it plays around 6700 from the blues, and with a decent into breeze on a number of holes, made it play even longer.

Really enjoyed the layout and how tranquil it feels to be inside Griffith Park; lots of deer can be found grazing along certain holes, and the beautiful hillsides make for a nice backdrop. A great walking course for sure.

As for conditions, it took a while for me to find a fairway, which for the most part was in good shape, but there were a number of bare spots just off the fairway and the rough was thick in many areas, enough to where finding your ball was a challenge. Tee boxes were pretty beat up, lots of divots and not recently mowed. Greens were okay, very soft, but with lots of pitch marks and certain areas that were in bad shape.

Wish conditions were a little bit better but it's still a good track and decent test, just temper expectations on conditions a bit.

Somehow managed to snag a tee time for saturday at 11:50 2 days prior. maybe concern over the storm? in either case, when i arrived to check in starter said i could go out early. I warm up at the range and go to the tee box and another single is there having literally just walked on. it was my first time playing rancho but he mentioned how rare it was that the course wasn't jammed up.

Wound up going out with 3 other singles, me and another walking. Was a really good foursome, lots of laughs were had. Had really been looking forward to playing this track and it was a lot of fun. playing with guys who had some course knowledge helped for sure, as there were a few instances of blind shots both off the tee and even on approach. most holes are fairly straight, but everything is tree-lined and there's a lot of undulation and elevation changes.

Found the course itself to be in a pretty good muni shape; some bare spots but i found good lies most of the day, and the couple of bunkers i was in had really nice sand. greens were in good shape and rolled true, medium speed. pace of play was about 4.5 which seemed good to me. some waits on par 3s but nothing terrible. definitely a decent challenge, helps to know the angles and where to hit. there's a snack bar near the turn, facility doesn't have a pro shop so bring extra balls and a glove if you need 'em.

would love to get back out here soon! hope i can get lucky again with a time!

Played Sun 6/11 and paired up with 2 other singles. Tee times were running a bit behind, maybe ten minutes or so, not terrible. Somewhat surprised they let a fivesome out ahead of us, but to their credit they played well and fast and the course was busy so there were waits throughout. Always a big log jam on the par 3s, sometimes 2 groups deep.

Course itself is still in very good shape, fairly lush if a little soggy (it was drizzly) from tee to green, and if only they could get the greens in better shape this would be one of the better tracks in the area. Tons of unrepaired pitch marks make putting a challenge to say the least. I did want to mention that I found a surprising number of bunkers and to my surprise they were all filled with pretty soft sand. A recent development?

Despite the unexpected drizzle and pace of play issues and my all around poor play, I can recommend Santa Anita. As the days get warmer I expect the course to firm up but hopefully it can stay in good shape at least through the summer

Feels like it's time to update conditions at Rustic. Got out yesterday as a walking single along with 3 others, all walking. Just an absolutely perfect day. The sun was out, it wasn't hot, the wind was probably in the 5-10mph range. Greens are definitely back to rolling fast again, but on the firmer side. The dormant fairways have sprung back to life and are looking gorgeously green with generous roll out on tee shots again. Tee boxes are in great shape, rough is thick and lush in places, especially the collars around the bunkers where you're basically left to simply take a hack to get back into play. Didn't hit a bunker (close tho!) but the sand looks pretty hard for what it's worth. POP yesterday was probably the best I've ever experienced it, about 4.5 with no waiting at all and no one behind our group for at least 1.5 holes. Might have been an Easter thing!

So glad to finally have gotten some decent weather and taken advantage of the course looking so good. definitely get back out there if you haven't played it in a while. hope it's a sign of come for some wonderful spring golf ahead!

First time out here on Sat 4/1 at noon as part of a foursome. Finally a perfectly beautiful spring day! Was excited to play here and it did not disappoint. Grabbed a bucket of balls from the pro shop and warmed up on the range. I liked that they had chipping markers on the left side so you could dial in some distances at 20-25 yard intervals. The range uses one of those long continuous mats that you can't get a tee in so for drivers you have to stand in front which is kind of awkward but gets the job done.

The course itself from the IV tees doesn't play especially long, but it certainly has its challenges with a number of short par 4s that have risk/reward off the tee. Lots of dog legs! Gotta hit your lines or you'll find yourself in any number of bunkers or be out of position. Fairways are pretty generous for the most part with good roll out, but they're lined with fairly thick rough, so wayward shots can get hung up in them, and there are some OB areas on the edges of a number of holes. Some water trouble lurking out there as well. Fairways were in great condition, bunkers had soft sand, but the one thing that made the day less than a 10/10 was the greens as they'd just been punched a week ago. They were healing nicely but still sandy which made putting a lot more challenging. Rolled fast for the most part but hard to get good lines when it's that bumpy.

Wind picked up probably gusting 15-20 mph by the time we reached the back which makes the course play a little longer in, and you have to compensate for it when it's coming from the side, but it just added to the fun. I do wish they had a better mix of par 3 distances as they all sat in the 170ish range save for one that i think played at 150.

All in all, about a 4.5 hour round, and a lot of fun was had, and I can't wait to get back

Been looking forward to check this one out for a while and if it were up to me it'll be a one and done experience. No amenities to speak of, starter "pro shop" is in a converted shipping container, no real food/drink options unless you count the taco stand by the third tee (on weekends only?). No full range, just a small warm up cage. On the good end, they have a couple of nice practice greens that are true to what's on the course.

Teed off as a foursome at 1 and were waiting on practically every shot. Folks in front of us were awful and the folks behind us were drunk and flipped their cart over on the 17th green, but after greeting the marshal on the second hole didn't see him again after. POP wound up around 5.25 hours.

Course itself reminds me of a longer Debell, which is basically your standard hillside course with narrow tree-lined fairways, lots of OB opportunities if you're not precise with your shots, elevation changes, tricky uneven lies, tiered greens, etc. Also have to contend with power lines and other unsightly obstructions. If you're not hitting them straight here you're in for a long day. Fairways are in average shape, some thin and bare areas, and if you hit a poor shot, or even a good shot that bounces or rolls out the wrong way, you'll undoubtedly find yourself up against a tree at some point.

The bunkers are also in poor shape, with thin to no sand, and full of rocks, but the views around the course are nice, the greens are really nice, soft and receptive and rolling on the slow side, and some of the holes especially on the back 9 are fun, but not a place i'd make the trip out to again

Made a bit of a drive out to El Prado to play Sat 3/4 at 11:15. Having read the reviews had an idea of what to expect but not sure it even met my lowered expectations. First off, driving range was closed due to, I'm guessing, the recent rains making it hard for the ball retriever to work properly. For what it's worth, it's a nice grass range so if it'd been open that would have been a nice feature. There's a quaint restaurant next to the pro shop that serves a decent breakfast as well as sandwiches, etc. A couple of putting greens available as well.

Teed off around 11:20, and almost immediately got that feeling it was going to be a long day. First drive wound up in the fairway in a bare spot which was a sign of things to come. Greens were in decent shape, rolling medium fast and tee boxes were okay. No real consistency to the rough, it was either going to be fairly thick or totally bare. Fairways are a mess, lots of bare spots with divots, so hard to find good lies. Wasn't in many bunkers but they appeared to range from thin and playable to caked in mud/water logged.

Saw the marshal once, at the third tee box telling our group having just come off a par 3 that we needed to pick up the pace. Meanwhile, we were up against the group in front all day and then at the turn at 10 wound up stacked 4 groups back! Really poor POP lead to a 5.5 hour round.

A shame the upkeep is in such poor shape since the track itself is sorta fun, but coupled with the POP it's not a place i'd make any sort of effort to return to unless conditions were to dramatically improve.
