Played on Sunday, May 31. The course was in great shape but the overall experience was disappointing. We had a mid-morning reservation but our check-in was delayed by nearly an hour as we waited for carts to become available. Then we waited in a line behind at least three other groups of five-somes at the first tee. After teeing-off on #1, one of our two carts broke down (to the staff's credit, they got a replacement out to us by the second hole). The front nine was predictably slow and our other cart had to be replaced at the turn due to a dying battery. The pace of play improved markedly on the back -- as some groups dropped-out after finishing the front nine. This is a challenging track but the fun evaporates when you can't establish a rhythm...wait to tee-off, wait to hit second shot, wait to shoot for the green...you know what I mean. All told, it took 6.5 hours to get on the course and finish our round. It's sad, but it'll be a while before we drive the 1.5 hour RT back to Mountain Meadows.

Played on Sunday (5/17) morning. Overcast skies, no wind, humid. We started a little late but that was a result of slow players on the first tee, not the staff, which worked to keep groups moving. Course was well watered -- softening/slowing the greens and creating muddy spots and standing water in some fairways which reduced the long roll off tees that usually benefits players here. Pace of play accelerated on the back. Played in a group of five that finished in about 4.5 hours.

Played 18 on 5/14 afternoon. A few fairways being aerated on the front. Looks and feels like the underside of a cheese grater. Don't know how long it takes for turf to recover from this treatment but in the grand scheme it's wasn't that big of a deal to me. The greens were great and the sky was clear...a good day.

Walked on solo last Sunday morning. Waited less than an hour, was playing by 7 a.m. and finished at 11 a.m. Was looking for a quick, last minute game and got it. Fairly level tees. Wide open fairways (a few with thin coverage). Hard to tell the rough from the fairway on most holes. Majority of greens are flat with minimal break -- but you'll see a difference between Front 9 and Back 9 greens. The front is faster with visible sanding. The back is much slower, no sand, with very lush grass. Players in front of my group didn't seem to want to fix ball marks or replace fairway divots. All in all, considering the price, the convenience and the service, I walked away feeling OK.

You can travel further and pay more per round -- but if you can't beat the convenience and value of this LA County public course. For the conditions, scenic location and challenge -- it's a bargain.

Played the Back 9 here on Sunday (4/20) morning. Course conditions overall were generally good as is usually the case, but evidence of aeration was still clearly visible on several greens. Made for a challenging mix -- some fast/smooth and some slower/bumpy rolls. No matter. It still beat a morning of yardwork!
