Played on March 5, 2015 ( last week). The greens are some of the worst in the area right now. They are spotty, bumpy, and not rolling well at all. I always like to play here when I am in town but out of the 5 courses I played they were by far the worst shape. The bunkers are just OK. Rest of the course is in good shape. Over priced right now.

Back for our yearly Palm Springs weekend trip and played Desert Willow Firecliff twice as my buddy had some deal made that only cost us $75 on Saturday. Played on Friday too but opted out on Sunday having to get back to LA early. In terms of conditions, the course is in really good shape. Fairways and rough are near perfect, and there's never an issue on the tee boxes. There are plenty of bunkers on this course so if you're not dead accurate, you're going to need some good sand, which luckily is the case. As for the greens, while they're good, they were a bit on the slow side. This came as a surprise as usually at your nicer courses it's usually the greens that are always getting top marks, but not the case here. Again, they're fine - even good - but not great currently. The one really bad thing? POP on Saturday was pretty horrendous for a nice course. Would say on at least 10-12 holes we arrived at the tee box only to find the group ahead of us still there. Seems like they were pushing the amount of groups going out and so it was hard to find a good rhythm. Disappointing. Desert Willow is a beautiful and challenging course though, so by all means I recommend it. I will however make sure next time out there to play a variety of courses and not marry myself to one because of a good deal. Life's too short!

The second course for the Boys weekend! The last time I played here was with GK outing after the Classic Club Event a few years ago. I did remember all of the Sand Traps! Must be over a hundred! The rakes no longer reside in the ground so you have a pretty good chance of staying out of them because there are so many rakes laying around them! ;) Just kidding, you cant see any of the rakes but you can see the bunkers everywhere! What a beautiful course! Greens were a little bumpy from walking, but were rolling true. Still very slow this time of year so be firm. Played from the Blues most of my guys could not reach in two. I never hit P-7 except on a couple of the par 3's which were so cool! Hole 6 and 17 were two of my favorite holes! The course is tough but fun! Very playable right now, just the greens were a little slow. ;)

The last in a four course, 72 hole, 2 day heat & humidity fest in the desert, this course was by far the best of the four. In the brutal summer heat Firecliff was in very good shape tee thru the greens. Nothing negative to report. Got a great walk up rate of $34.
In second place - Escena for $29. Greens rolled true & smooth. Fairways a bit splotchy.
Third place goes to Indian Canyons for $20. Fairways similar to Escena. Greens were good but not all that smooth.
In last place, for $22, is Cimmaron. Splotchy & rough shape. Holes, on the greens, clearly have not been moved in probably a week or so. Horrible bunkers with excessive amounts of sand and no maintenance to them.

Sand was a little hard in the bunkers, but still good. Greens are in great shape. They did putt slow. Slow greens seems to be a common occurrence in a lot of my reviews.
I don't know if the staff at Desert Willow reads these reviews but I would like to thank them . I switched dates and tee times and courses a total of four times and they were very accommodating every time

Played Firecliff after playing Mountain View the day prior. From the whites, Firecliff plays longer than MV. The same playing conditions apply as the course is in great shape. The greens again are not receptive unless you spin the ball. Putting speed is slower that you think. All in all, a great place to play in the desert and the marketing and tournament director did a great job with our group. Now that I know the course, I want to play here soon.

Day two of Palm Springs golf weekend was at Desert Willow on Sunday, Nov 3. Our foursome teed off around 9:45 after warmups at a fine driving range. I'll be honest - this course is probably a bit too technical/gimmicky for me, but my (almost) scratch golfer friends must have enjoyed it immensely.

It is stunningly beautiful, despite the fairways being a bit drier than I expected. The greens however, were perfect. Not being the most accurate player yet, I love desert courses with sandy bailout areas. And the sand in the traps, which I saw too many of, was just right.

Speaking of traps, they're daunting and frequent, however they are fair. They're not just thrown in the middle of the fairway at 240 yards.

It's expensive but if you're an accurate ball striker it's well worth it if you have that kind of cash. I look forward to coming back here when I get my handicap in the low teens. Tee box view on 18 one of the prettiest I've ever seen. I think next time I can improve on my 105 score.

Played Desert Willow Golf Resort Firecliff Course Friday with GK’ers Shebylo and Shazza. What great company they were on a perfect day in the low 80’s. The Firecliff course, like most other desert courses I’ve played lately has not been overseeded yet…however unlike the others, Firecliff is still green and lush with exception so some dry areas in the rough. Something that I noticed right away because when you play the Firecliff course you’ll likely be in a bunker right away is they no longer have the sub terrain rake holders. Personally I enjoyed now seeing the rakes out and am happy about the change. I was told the company that supplied the sub terrain rake holders went out of business hence no way to maintain them properly so they had to be removed. Another note worth mentioning is we saw next to NO coot birds this time. Looks like they have an early handle on them this year. Before teeing off at 12:10, we had a bite to eat on the patio. For anyone that has not experienced the Desert Willow patio restaurant, I suggest doing so before or after your round. It’s the largest most beautiful clubhouse patio I've ever seen over looking the 9th and 18th holes. The food and service are excellent. As for the course, like mentioned, still lush and green fairways, rough and tee boxes. Regarding the greens, a little bumpy but mostly smooth, ran at a medium pace and were firm. The bunkers, much more firm than previous rounds and seemed like they could use some more sand as well as being turned, still decent to play from. Overall, good shape and certainly worth the time to play. Its my understanding Desert Willow GR Firecliff will begin overseeding 11/1 – 12/28, reopening 12/29. I can say if the overseed comes in anywhere as nice as the Mountain View course has which I saw on our drive in and another hole on the course, Winter – Spring play on the Firecliff is going to be amazing. BTW the Mountain View course will be open for play this Friday 10/25…wish I was back out there this weekend to try it!
