Played here yesterday (4/12) with Nickesquire for GK Cup 17, Match 2 on a picture perfect Sedona day in spring. Nick's review is spot on so I won't add too much it, rather try and perhaps give a "local" take on it. The last time I played here about 4 months ago, the fairways were awful and a lot of the course (except for the greens) needed some TLC. Fast forward to yesterday and the course was in excellent shape; fairways were visually popping against the red rock background, the greens ran quickly and true, the rough had teeth, and even the tee boxes were good.

Even though Sedona GR, is now run by a different company than it was last year, they are happily accepting Troon Card members and honoring their usual discounts and awarding points for play. With that in mind, the reasons to come out here and play are too many to pass up. The course will only be in this peak shape for another 1.5 months in my opinion, but it's a very good option for those in Sedona who can't/choose not to play Seven Canyons.

Rode the Blues (6646/70.8/132) in 4H, 15M with sbarajasjr for a GK Cup match. Thanks much to Sal for coordinating and setting up! Around 80, sunny and breezy. $75 was reasonable for this course. First time here, really liked the Gary Panks design. First time I have ever played a 37-34 = 71 combination. Up/down rolling hills, 18 challenging, fun holes of golf. Plenty of well placed bunkers, trees and red staked areas to keep you honest. Tees lush and mostly well maintained. Fairways lush and nice to play from. You better find the fairways here, because the rough was lush, thick and punitive. Balls in the rough would cost you 25-75 yards, and your ball often sat down. First time I have played in rough like this since Bayonet last summer. Traps were decently maintained with fine, red clay/dirt/sand. Just needed more of it. Large greens were very nice. Medium fast and firm, but still held well struck irons. We both putted poorly, but it was us, not the way the greens rolled. You want to stay below the hole on most of these greens. Customer service a + all around. Friendly, informative starter. All grass driving range with complementary balls. Carts nice but no GPS. Drink cart around twice. Beautiful clubhouse with a busy restaurant onsite. Very nice layout in excellent condition. Definitely recommended.

Played here yesterday with my father in-law on a discounted (Troon Card) 10:12am tee time. Course was very good in communicating earlier in the morning of a pending frost delay that went from 1 hour down to about 35 minutes when all was said and done. Unfortunately, the main points of rsmylie's last review still hold true and conditions today were a real mixed bag with only the greens having a stellar rating. Not sure why this course is essentially a muddy mess, but it took away from the enjoyment. For the price they charge out of towners, no excuses for such shoddy conditions.

Tee boxes: Decent although hole 10 tee box was still frozen at noon! I nearly snapped my wrist trying to put a tee down. Others were in better shape but like everything else before the green, they were chewed up and muddy.

Fairways: A disappointment in that they were muddy, burnt out, aerated, or just downright barren for about 75% of the round. Here and there you would find nice turf, but too many muddy or soggy parts to forgive that.

Rough: Thick in many place and with it being wet and muddy, get your wedge out and just punch out.

Sand: Good shape since rakes are in bunkers here, but I wish the bunkers were a bit more consistent with more sand in them.

Greens: The absolute standout of the round. They were a vibrant forest green color, quick, and smooth for the most part. It probably helps I was putting well, but when that isn't your strength you get the feeling conditions must be great if you are dropping putts that normally skip along the way.

ETC: Carts with no GPS but ice in chests and feed mix. Driving range and small putting green all open. Cart attendant is friendly and will load up your bag. Starter at 1st tee very helpful. Layout is fun but I do believe no walking is allowed (not sure why you would want to when the routing isn't really made for it here). A few number of fun holes here that make you think. Overpriced sadly but that's what you get out here. They do offer a discount card if you are a local, otherwise a Troon Card will get you a nice discount.

I like the layout of this course. And the views were spectacular. However I wish the course was in better condition. The fairways were one of three things. Perfect????, wet and muddy or dry and hard with little grass. The tee boxes were fine. I was in three bunkers. One of them was great. The other two were hard pack with little to no sand. Greens were smooth and would hold shots. The rough was fine.

The starter stated that they have gone back to normal from Covid-19 restrictions as of about a week ago. Rakes in bunkers albeit there was not much sand in them. No flagstick modifications. Drinking water on the course. Ball washers with water in them. And no mask requirements.

Staff was kind and polite. POP was 4 1/2 hours.

I am from out of town and had played Oakcreek Country Club two days ago. Highly recommend that course.

Played here today (11/26) with my partner's father during a visit to their AZ home. Called the course Sunday and booked a 12:35PM tee time for ~$100. The course is situated in a Hilton resort property so I had an idea as to what to expect and it was about that, with a few small let downs. The views here are what really sell the experience, but the course was no slouch. As for the conditions...

Tee boxes: Perhaps the weakest part of the round as more than a few were wet bordering on sloppy. There was one (#11) that I stepped on and nearly sank into the ground. Others were fine but very inconsistent (from the blue markers). I do love the fact they have enough tee options as to offer a fun time for any skill level, including the "family" markers at roughly 3,000 yards total.

Fairways: Good to excellent condition. The fairways here were aerated in late September and even in near freezing weather today, they were sparkling green albeit a bit wet in areas. Grass was cut well and not too short, roll was more than fair. Divot and some GUR were present but no more than any other course.

Rough: Penal in some areas. I distinctly remember some rough lining the fairways was nearly 5 inches deep as one of my drives simply disappeared.

Sand: Amazingly was not a single bunker out here, but the sand in most of them was white and semi-fluffy. Some bunkers did have your Sedona-style red dirt that didn't look all the fun to hit from.

Greens: The highlight today; they ran quicker than they looked, were very smooth with not a single bump in any putting line, and had some tricky breaks, though undulation wasn't nearly as challenging as say Journey.

ETC: Staff in pro shop was nice and allowed us to tee off closer to 12:05, maximizing the sunshine and light of the day. Pace was an amazing 3 hours and 50 minutes, though we did pass a few groups as a twosome. Carts had no GPS but good battery life. The layout was fun though some holes did seem to repeat (think shorter par 4). The 10th hole alone is worth the price in terms of views. The restrooms facilities although bountiful, smelled awful and looked like a municipal restroom at Balboa. All in all, for a resort course the conditions were almost to par with what one would expect from a Hilton, but could use some upgrading. Fun round overall.

Played Thursday 6/14 in the early afternoon. The place was pretty dead. I played through 2 foursomes than didn't hit anyone else until the 18th fairway. I knew going in that the course had punched the previous week but the greens had mostly healed up and looked good so soon after aeration. Much like the other regulation length course in town, Oakcreek, this course puts a premium on accuracy. This course is a bit more "target golf" in comparison to Oakcreek whose main defense is narrow tee-lined fairways. Overall the course is in good shape, especially the fairways. The tee boxes were occasionally a problem, where several were crowned and tough to find a flat spot.

Played April 4 and enjoyed the course and the views. Due to 4500 elevation, the ball travels 5-7% longer. In combination with many downhill holes, Sedona plays much shorter, 1-2 clubs less. If you ... Continue »

I would definitely play there again.

Played 8/30/11. Cost was $65, which was a bit lower than regular since greens had been punched about one week prior. Overall, course was in great shape, especially considering how hot it is there. Sand traps were mostly not very good - heavy, damp sand. Best advice is to just stay out of them. Rest of the course was a pleasure. Views aren't as spectacular as Seven Canyons, but it is still a very pretty place to play.
