First round of the long weekend was here. Ended up playing all 36 at Foxtail, starting on the North with a 12:27 GN hot deal ($26). Guy in the pro shop got me going at noon and then I went and checked in with the starter. It's a bit of a drive across the street to get over to the North Course. The starter was remarking how unusually busy it was as he let out a 7-some?!? He said a couple guys were leaving after a few holes and they "promised" to play quickly. He then put out another twosome, and then myself and other single as a separate twosome behind them. Kinda strange he didn't want to put us together. Ultimately, the other twosome and my twosome played through that large group (they were just a fivesome by the time we played through, but still brutally slow) and it was smooth sailing after that. 3:45 pace was just fine, but it sure was a bizarre start. The course was in solid condition. Pretty green and lush throughout, maybe a tad on the shaggy side. A few tee boxes could use some leveling out, but they were mostly in good shape. The fairways didn't provide much roll, but I always had good lies to hit from. The rough had good coverage. Not too deep, but just enough to make you work on some shots as the ball tended to sit down in it. The greens were firm. Well most were, and occasionally you'd find a surprise soft spot when you were expecting a release. They rolled pretty well at medium-fast speeds. The bunkers were kind of a mess. A few had nice new sand, but were not well kept. Most had this dark gray hardpan sand that you wanted to avoid. Hopefully they'll eventually get the new sand in all the traps and players/staff take tend to them as needed. Solid course. Some big doglegs here, but still reasonably forgiving off most tees. Plenty of tall trees lining each holes. Houses along almost every hole. However, they only felt really in play a few times. The greens here are very large and hard to read, at least as a first-timer. Struggled to make any putts. Nothing worth going too far out of your way for, but a nice local course when you get a good price like I did.

$35.00 pp w/ cart, booked online directly through the course website. Check in was easy. Golf shop had the standard items available, and is adjacent to the bar and grill. Staff was nice, very accommodating. We all had different questions as none of us had played there before.

First of all, this is a large property with 36 holes and a driving range. The north course is across the street in another subdivision, and wraps around houses and a small strip mall at the corner of Fairview and Golf course drive.

The course is 1 mile off Hwy 101, and is 5 minutes away from Graton casino, and 20 minutes away from some wineries. It's in a pretty good location.

Course was flat, tree lined, some bunkering near landing zones off the tee, lot's of dog legs. It setup nicely for everyone's game.

Greens were great, rolling smooth and pure. Greens were tier'd but nothing dramatic.

Really enjoyed the course and for $35.00 it was a great deal.

We only played 16 holes as a two some directly in front of us, and a 3 some in front of them were playing super slow. Took us 5 hours to get through 16 and it would have probably taken another 45 to finish the last two holes. Only downside of the trip.

Would love to play it mid week with less people.

Played at 9:30 this morning as a two-some joined by a single. We were able to get the tee time one hour before, as the only thing available in the area. The course is in really nice shape now. Based on my SoCal eyes, the course was lush in both the fairway and rough. There were portions of the rough which contained bare spots but I did not see any in the fairway. The sand was thick and not my favorite part of the course but the grounds crew had prepared them nicely. The greens were outstanding. Quick and true poa greens. The greens were undulating and quite tricky considering the speed. We paid the rack rate of $50 per player, riding, and came in at about 5 hours. We did the front nine in 2:10 and it slowed down considerably on the back but I think that was due to the group in front of us. I enjoyed the lay out and found it challenging. I was not hitting the ball well and the course made me pay. I definitely would come back.

Overall the course is in good shape. Our 1310 tee time allowed the 2 of us to get in the 18 in just 4 hours. No marshalers visible, lots of drinks cart passes, and it looked to be a moderately booked ... Continue »

Overall the course is in good shape. Our 1310 tee time allowed the 2 of us to get in the 18 in just 4 hours. No marshalers visible, lots of drinks cart passes, and it looked to be a moderately booked field. We witnessed lush conditions on course, greens soft and holding very well, smooth at times bumpy and true. Fairways were mostly lush and fast, cut down to about 1/2 inch, rough lush about 1-3 inches, but sand was poor overall. Some bunkers re-sanded but most in sorry shape. Tees were ok, and the layout is an average workout for most clubs in the bag. The grill is a good stop afterwards to either cry in your beer, or collect your winnings. Our twosome played Wednesday 9 March 1220 tee time. Carts were on paths today, as all conditions were typical of winter golf after some rain. Overall the course was lush, and wet, some casual water, even in a few bunkers. Maintenance was good overall given their conditions. The greens however were good (today) being soft and holding very well, and actually quite smooth for poa this time of year. The rest of the course was in fair shape. Large practice facilities with a good grill, nice staff throughout, and a very well stocked pro shop.
No drinks cart today, pace was on 4hours 10.

By far the nicer of the two Foxtail courses. Usually only $10 more then the South course, the North course is actually well maintained. More of a challenge than the up and back South course forcing using multiple clubs in your bag with well placed bunkers, water and doglegs.

I agree with the over watering comment below. Some of the watering problems are just plain aim of the sprinklers. Carts on the North have GPS install. Decent cart girl service. Decent value at $39-$49.

Been playing Foxtail quite a bit lately with the new deal the have for weekends (39$ north, 29$ south with cart) and while I like the course there are small things that detract from the experience. The course is way over watered, on rainy days they water all day long and the course just turns into a mud fest. Even on hot days I have mud on my ball in the middle of the fairway. The greens are pretty slow and bumpy, and I'm not sure why. When I played in the Sonoma County amateur event the greens were much faster. Anyway, I like the layout and the course is very entertaining, but little things are bothersome. If you haven't played now is your chance with the cheap weekend rates.

I play 9 holes after work all the time (at) Foxtail North. I don't know what course "shebylo" was playing on 7/29. While it is a good challenge from the tips and the fairways are lush, the greens are just moon crater bumpy and piss-poor slow! This is typical for Foxtail this time of year as they struggle with poor soil conditions and warm weather. Their response to this is increasing the height of cut on the greens (Rio Vista anyone!?!) and over irrigating which renders them slow and bumpy. Combined with golfers who haven't fixed a ball mark on a green since the 20th century and you are left with some of the worst putting surfaces in Sonoma County. Oakmont West (which never gets any reviews on this site) is where I've been going lately after work. Fast, firm & SMOOTH! Foxtail is fun until you grab the flatstick and then the game becomes "luck of the bounce", which sucks.
