Played the Golds (70.3/122/6259) by myself in 2h, 15m on a Golf Now free round including cart. Brisk, feels like fall 1st thing in the a.m., low 50's, clear, calm, beautiful day to play golf. The greens were aerated 2 weeks ago and are healing nicely. Still a bit bumpy, medium speed, but improved from a few days ago. Both the rough and fairways were nicely maintained and usually lush. The sand was also well maintained. The tees were generally good, but not up to the standards of the rest of the course. The par 3's in particular needed some divot fixing attention after the weekend. I like the layout here, not an overly tight course, but it has a few very tight holes. Customer service was a ++ as usual. Very fun course!

2nd time playing here. Played the Golds (70.3/122/6259) with 2 very nice guys from Washington in 4h, 15m on a Golf Now Hot Deal for $30 including cart. Low 70's, clear, very little wind, absolutely beautiful day to play golf. Interesting layout, you start with a medium par 4 and then a short par 4 with water... then go par 5, par 3, par 5, par 3 and finish with three par 4's on the front. Some water and hazards to avoid, but pretty straight forward. The back nine is definitely the harder of the two nines in my opinion. Definitely a shot makers course, several doglegs encourage you to turn the ball to get it in good positions to shoot @ a flag from a particular side of the fairway. Not a tight course, but it has a few very tight holes. The greens were aerated 2 weeks ago and are healing nicely, but are still at least a week from putting well again. Played in a scramble format tourney at 9 AM on 6/19 in under 4 hours. I like this course a lot as it is fairly open (not a lot of trees) with wide landing areas but strategic water and sand and knee high and taller rough off some fairways if you miss badly.

Overall the course is in good condition but not to the level of the better public courses in the Portland area. The greens are the best kept part as they rolled smoothly and medium fast. The fairways were mostly lush with a few bare spots near the edges and the tees had some bare spots and plenty of divot damage.

I didn't have much interaction with the staff this day but in the past they have been very friendly and professional. There is a nice grass driving range and practice area.

1st time playing here. Played the blues 6318/70.0/123 with 2 very nice seniors from their Men's Club in around 4 hours. Early bird rate of $30 before 9A to walk. Not a tight course overall, but it has a few very tight holes. Definitely is a shot makers course, several doglegs encourage you to turn the ball to get it in good positions to shoot @ a flag from a particular side of the fairway. Clear, fairly windy day. A deceptive part of this layout is that due to it's location it is likely to be windy to very windy... I would have went in a couple of lakes on the front w/o some excellent local knowledge to "play it 20 yards farther than you think it calls for because of the wind" twice from my playing partners when I was playing into the wind... because it didn't SEEM like I was into that much wind because several holes are kind of down in a valley, so it appears relatively calm and not nearly as windy as it actually is until you launch your ball above the tree lines. The previous review of QV's version of "amen corner" on holes 12-14 was accurate... start with the longest par 4 on the course with hazard and OB left, follow it with the longest par 3 on the course, then finish it with a tight par 4 with trouble all around... and all three holes had some of the most severely sloping greens on the course. Speaking of the greens, they were very nice. Smooth, medium fast, they held shots well with very few ball marks. Both the rough and fairways were nicely maintained and lush. I wasn't in any sand, but it looked to be well maintained as well. The tees were generally good, but not of as high a quality as the rest of the course. Everything about this course was good to very good. I liked the course layout and the customer service was a ++ from the pro shop to the snack bar. I will definitely be back!

I played here on 07/07/12 from the black tees at 6628/71.6/125. Quail Valley is maybe 30 to 45 minutes outside of Portland. I was staying in Vancouver when I played it so it took a bit longer to get here especially with the beach traffic. The course lies entirely in the open farmland and while it is very flat (except for a couple holes with minor elevation changes) it has good views of the surrounding rolling hills and the coastal range (no homes either). While pulling into the parking lot the first thing I noticed was that this was the perfect walking course because the property was so flat. I think the pace of play could suffer because of all the walkers and there were a bunch of people out, but we got around in about 4.5 hours so not too bad. Let me be clear before I get too far into this review and say that this course is not one of the premier courses in the area, but I really enjoyed my afternoon here. The course features an open layout with wider than average fairways and a bit of a links feel to it. It however did not play like a links course as the fairways were a little long and it did not roll out. The maintenance was acceptable considering the price ($47 to ride on golfnow) and a good putt would not bump off line even though the greens were on the slow side. The first few holes gave a feel of what to expect for the rest of day, a shorter, scorable course with some water and fescue to catch a bad shot. I thought the front 9 was the easier 9 because holes 12 to 15 added some teeth to an otherwise easy play and in fact, #12 (474 yard up hill par 4) and #13 (239 yard downhill par 3) are arguably the toughest back to back holes that I have ever played. Hole #14 would have to be my favorite hole as it is a mid length par 4 with water all down the left that plays out of a chute off the tee. Except for a few holes on the back the course routing was not the most interesting with few dog legs and many holes close together. Plus, quite a few green complexes and bunkers were simple. All that aside I loved the openness of the course both for play and views since most Pacific Northwest courses are tree lined and I also liked the opportunity to put together a good score even with some average shots. If i lived on the western side of Portland this would be a good value play. From Vancouver I would not recommend it as there are too many other decent courses requiring less travel. If someone was looking to play 36 in a day, here and Pumpkin would be a solid choice.

Great mix of holes with 12/13 and 14 being a tough corner to get through in par. The wind can get going which really brings a challenge to the course. Well worth the price.
