Always liked playing Skylinks, but man the fairways are so beaten down by cart traffic and the rounds take forever. 3 hours a side minimum. Wish they would eliminate 5somes and take better care of fairways then letting so much traffic use course. Course could be amazing as layout is great, but overused...so....

My first time playing here today as part of our GK Team Match Play, round 2. Overall, I thought the course was in decent shape. I'm not a big fan of the 5 hour round, or the $60 walking rate at 7:40 a.m. Greens: They were soft, but fairly fast. If you were not careful, you could easily roll 3 to 4 feet beyond the hole on most downhill putts. There were a few ball marks but they were easily fixed; the greens were soft enough that you could just use your thumbs to push the grass back. They looked completely healed from aeration and I saw no bumpiness to speak of. Lots of undulation and you really want to be on the right part of the green to have a real chance of making the putt. Fairways and rough: It looked like the fairways and rough have the same cut, but there was some white edge lines painted on the turf, marking out were it appears they will try to grow in some rough. It's all Bermuda grass and with the recent winter rains, the ground was soft enough to give the ball some cushioning despite the tight lies as the grass is just coming out of dormancy. Tees: We played the white tees and they were mostly level and had good coverage. Bunkers: They were all a little wet, but had been smoothed over with the sand pro. I did see a couple of footprints here and there, but nothing terrible. I was in a few and had no real problem hitting out. Like I mentioned, I felt the course was good overall. There was a guy who acted as a starter on the first hole tee, then we saw him acting as Marshall on the course. At least he was trying and appeared to care. I like the layout: there are a good variety of holes and some interesting layouts that should get you thinking about course management. The negatives: the walking rate is a little high, there is constant noise from the nearby (across the street) airport, the bunkers could use a little love, and the pace of play borders on the slow side. Anyway, I would play it again if I were staying or happened to be close by.

We played Skylinks today teeing off at 7:48 and 7:56 with eight players. Starter was great and got us out on time but it was crowded today for son reason and we had to wait on almost every shot. Not really much fun in 85 degree temps!!! We all got through it and had a nice lunch in the air conditioned restaurant. Food was good and service excellent.
Now to the course.........tees, greens, and bunkers are all in fair shape right now. Bunkers were inconsistent and unraked, tees were level but chewed up on some, and the greens still were a little sandy from aeration but the holes are all healed. I have to say it.....playing muni courses has its pluses and minuses but one thing stands out on most, players just don't care enough to leave the course in better shape then when they arrived. Ball marks were abundant, divots unrepaired were easy to find, and foot prints from human traffic were found in most bunkers. I blame this on a few things but allowing five some certainly doesn't help at all because they almost never can keep pace and leave each hole in shape for the groups that follow. The fairways were quite good however many tight lies are common and lastly the greens will be excellent given another week so don't be discouraged. $46 to walk in a little steep here IMO

Meh.. Grad school has kept me off the links for about 18 months. My game isn't up to par, but was better than I thought it would be. A few more hours at the range and some more playing time, and I'll be back in the single digits again. But anyway, this place still has my heart - its close to my house and the twilight rates are cheap. Its just meh.. though. I like the layout, but there's lots of patches of hard dirt, mostly off the fairway. I wouldn't even call it rough, because its the opposite - its as if they maintain the fairways and ignore the rough, so there's little grass and when there is, its not lengthy. The fairways here have always been dry and hard, so the ball rolls quite a bit. But its not bad to hit off of. Bunkers are usually pretty good here. If I'm jonesing to play, need to get out quick, and want a twilight discount, this place works fine. If I'm able to plan ahead, I'd look elsewhere for something a bit "more". Just don't play here on the weekends unless your phone is fully charged so you can watch tv while you wait, and wait, and wait.

Played 4/1/19 @ 12pm right after a tournament. This course usually plays slow but today was extra slow. Tee boxes were mostly level from the blues, rough non-existent, fairway and greenside bunkers were a mixed bag. Some bunkers had fluffy sand and some had a nice top level with packed sand underneath. Greens healing nicely from being punched, some were pretty bumpy on the back 9. Give it a couple more weeks and the greens will be great.

Played Sat 3/16 12:52 time thru tee off.com $40 w/cart, played as a threesome with a single. POP slow, 3 hours on the front 2 1/2 on the back, glad daylights savings had kicked in. Well, if you want to experience links golf in SoCal, Skylinks is the place for you, fairways dormant, hard, firm and fast with zero rough. Balls roll forever. Great lies on the fairways, just stay down and commit. Greens sucked, soft, bumpy, slow with plenty of ball marks (they were 2 days from punching). I was hoping they would have been hard and fast, wrong. Tee boxes over seeded and green, bunker sand was pretty good, some were kinda firm. Memo, from the blue tees don't hit more than a 6 iron off the tee on #1, the water hazard is only 180, second time in a row I chased a 5 iron into the the hazard. Aim at the two trees on the right side of the fairway. After the greens recover, and the fairways turn green and the rough grows in, I'll be back.

Played Skylinks today after rearranging an 8:20 tee time for 11:56 to try and bypass the rain showers. Safe to say we weren't the only ones who had that idea. The parking lot was full upon arrival and there was serious lineup at the first tee, but it was actually fairly smooth until the three-deep log-jam on 9. The back was generally slow but we still managed to get in before dark, but it definitely got really cold near the end of the round.

Weekends at Skylinks can seem pretty pricey but it's a very fun layout overall while not overwhelming in any one particular manner. If I'm not mistaken, is the GPS on the carts new? I can't remember but have this weird feeling they are. Greens are in good shape and pleasant to challenge. But best of all is that the course drained and dried up very nicely with just a few hours of sun. Not having a water-logged course made the expense worth it.

Already mentioned the greens, but the fairways aren't anything pretty to look at. They are utilitarian in nature - nothing more. And that's fine. In winter time, I can live with beige-toned fairways that offer a lot of good lies, but of course where you will also find the places where nature won the battle. Rough was mainly rough because of thin and a bit muddy where the shade halted the drying out process. Sand was actually remarkably good, and I found a lot of it (including a wild bunker, bunker, green, birdie on 11). Tee boxes were unmemorable at best.

And while much of all that sounds 'bad,' it was actually really good fun to play Skylinks today. And, if you can get past some of the current optics, you won't likely regret a visit there soon. Good facilities as well very conveniently located. It does the trick.

We played here again on 10/8/18 at 8am. There were a lot of groups waiting to tee off when we arrived but our five some got out right on time. We waited on a few holes throughout our round but still finished in 4.5 hours. Conditions are a bit mixed here right now. About half of the tee boxes were plugged full of holes due to aeration. The traps were a little thin but okay, the greens were semi smooth and ran about 9.5. The fairways were the highlight of the course. Most were green and nice to hit from although a little patchy. I think this course is a little overpriced compared to others courses nearby like Navy Destroyer, Miles Square but still enjoyed the round. GOLFERS.....repair your divots, rake the bunker, and replace your divots as a courtesy to others!

READ ENTIRE REVIEW WITH UPDATE American Golf Does Not Care About Golfers: Five days earlier I booked today's tee time at Skylinks. At no time when booking the time or when checking in an hour early did I receive any notice that all the greens were punched with excessively heavy sand applied across the punched greens and over several greens entirely, much of the sand should have been broom-ed off the greens. I play Skylinks often, it is bad enough that it is overpriced, but they should show the golfing public a little concern for the quality of play by providing a warning about poor playing conditions or a discounted rate. The management cares even less for their staff as they give no no direction in handling golfer complaints and show no regard for customer service to the local golfers their business relies upon. The staff mentioned that they received constant complaints about the condition the course was in due to the excessive sanding. By the way they will be punching the rest of the greens in about 2- 3 weeks, do not expect any warning but do expect to pay full price regardless. Stay away from Skylinks until at least November. I received an e-mail from the GM of the course explaining staff had been trained to inform players of conditions before going out. He also offered a discounted greens fees next time I play there. We will see if actual policy changes at Skylinks.
