Hello Greenskeeper golfers. I had the opportunity to play Vista Valencia Golf Course for the first time. It's a very interesting golf course, didn't know that only had a few par 4 holes and most of them were par 3's. It's a great golf course if you would like to practice your short game and irons.

I was very impress on how well they keep the greens and tees. The fair ways were in good shape. The sand traps need a more sand and it was hard to get out of the sand traps as they were hard since they didn't had enough sand. Our tee time was at 7:00 AM on Sunday morning. We didn't wait for any body and finished our round 4 1/2 hours.

Customer services was great and very friendly. So if you would like to practice your short and live close to Valencia and you haven't play this Golf Course you have to. Overall, I rate this course 7.5 - 8.

Remember get out, play some golf and have fun!!!

Played Friday, May 26th at 2:20 PM. I wanted to try a mid-afternoon time since the early morning weekend time was so slow. The course is in great shape but the tee boxes are a bit rough. In fact the blue tees were often grouped with the white tees, which were in front of where the white tee is rated.

The course gets so much play that they likely have to do this more often.

The first 9 holes took 2 hours and 45 minutes. I left at 5pm with a 3 over on the front 9. It just takes too long to play here.

Great deal but it is at the cost of your time.

I played here last Friday after work; me and a buddy teeing off at around 3:50 p.m. I paid $17 to ride, he paid $6 on their monthly Players Club. The course continues to be in fine shape. They have really stepped up the maintenance on the course. In the past there was all kinds of litter from the many trees all over the place, but now it looks like they regularly rake it all up. Tee to green there is good amounts of grass growing, without the drought stressed look that has been so prevalent over the last few years at many courses. The greens ran medium fast, smooth, and it looks like most of them were edged (something that few municipal courses seem to have time or resources to do). There was some hydraulic fluid damage on nine green. Tees were mostly level and had good coverage. A few were well divotized as this is mostly par-3's. Sand looked nice, although I was not in any bunkers. The pace of play was a bit slow, but it was the beginning of a holiday weekend so there were a lot of players. We finished this par 60 course in 3 hours, 45 minutes.

I played today, 5/20/17 at 8:58am. I got to the course at 8:30 and there was a 25 minute line to check in. I didn't have time to hit balls due to the slow line. I get my car and get in line for the tee. We do not tee-off until 9:20am, 20 minutes late.

The front nine took 2 hours and 45 minutes which is absurd on most courses but especially on a par 61 executive course. They let people out every 3 to 4 minutes and the pace of play is atrocious. I was told it is better to play in the evening, around 1 or 2pm if you can't be one of the first 3 groups in the AM. Overall the round took 5 hours and 15 minutes.

That being said, the course is in great shape for the price. The grass is green, rough is fluffy in most spots and the greens are in great shape. Bunkers can be hit or miss as they are either wet or very hard with a few soft bunkers.

This is an executive course that is trying to drive revenue. I get it, I really do but they need SOME standards.

I played a scramble here Friday with a company outing. The course is as nice as it's been for a long time. Tree debris has been raked up and most of the turf is green and lush. The biggest negative is a couple of wet swales running diagonally across four and ten fairways. Four is really wet with standing water about three inches deep in spots. The tees were nice except for 16, which had an uneven surface around the whites. Bunker sand was nicely raked and there was adequate amounts of it. The greens were good. No bare areas or too many ball marks. They ran fast and smooth; too bad they are scheduled for aeration Monday and Tuesday. They did feed us. Our choice was a really mediocre hamburger or hot dog. We also got hassled for a small ice chest that one of the guys brought; oh well.

Played today in soggy conditions, walking at 12:30 for $21. This course has a small stream running through it and several of the fairways have water that is continuing to drain or pond up. We did not even receive a lot of rain today, so I can surmise the course does not drain well. Lots of saturated turf throughout the course. The greens were soft, yet medium fast and rolling true. Multiple unrepaired or poorly repaired ball marks on most greens. Some greens have some oil damage from a leaky mower, but it was not bad enough to affect putts; hopefully, it will grow back just fine. The fairway on hole 15 was very thin; you could say it was almost one third bare ground. Many tees were very wet, even though there was room to place the markers away from the wet areas. Go figure. Cart path only, but I was walking anyway. Great POP at 2.5 hours, thanks to the weather keeping many folks away.

Played today on a GN Hot Deal for $15.99, plus their $3 service charge. Super windy today. The course is showing a lot of dormancy in the fairways, but the greens were medium fast, soft, and ran true. Good tee shots run forever and decent approach shots will hold the greens like darts. I fixed a lot of ball marks today and raked about 75% of one of the bunkers I was in. I guess that's the clientele that frequents this American Golf muni. Also, there are a lot of geese and duck here. Number 9 green seems to be a favorite place for them to lay some logs! There was also some damage to a couple of greens, but hole 10 green had a 5' square of nearly bare earth towards the right front side. Not terrible as this is a gigantic green and it was not in play. There was a lot of tree debris all over the course, ranging from leaves, bark from eucalyptus trees, to branches of all sizes. Most of this was in the rough, but some smaller branches found their way onto a couple of fairways. Always remember to bring back your cart key to the pro shop for your $5 deposit. Overall, for less than $20 riding and POP of 3.5 hours, it was not bad and a quick way for me to get my golf Jones out.

Got out today at 11:40 (GN hot deal, $15 @ 11:53, plus $3+ surcharge). Hardly anybody out today as it was hot and there is football on tv. I was a single, but caught another GN Hotdealer on the 2nd hole and we paired up. Great pace of play as we were able to pass two foursomes in the front nine, finishing in about 2 hours and 40 minutes. No drink cart today or the players assistance guy with the jug of ice water; kind of sucked there as it was over 100 degrees. The front nine greens have a little hydraulic leak staining greens 2 through 7; hopefully, it won't be an issue in the coming weeks. Greens were soft, but rolled fairly fast. There was some noticeable bumpiness on several of my playing partner's putts. A few unrepaired ball marks; not as many as in the past couple of rounds here. Decent grass coverage in the fairways and rough. I was not in the sand today, but it looked okay. We played the middle tees and they seemed to be chewed up a bit, but not too difficult to find a good place to stand. All in all, not a bad way to spend a few hours on a Sunday.

It appears that Tony and I are the only ones reviewing this popular course for the past couple of years; anyway, here is my latest report. The good: POP was less than 3 hours. The sand in the bunkers around the greens appeared clean, light, and plentiful. Fairways were mowed nicely and had good grass coverage. Tee boxes were mostly level. Greens rolled nicely. The bad: Rough gets real scrappy as you get further from the center of the fairway; it is not mowed consistently, nor is it watered evenly. Fairway bunkers have firm packed, dark brown, and thin sand. The ugly: Greens have a lot of ball marks, some not fixed at all and others not fixed properly. There are numerous eucalyptus trees that have been shedding bark and leaves all over the rough and you can lose a ball in some places. A little maintenance in these areas could help a lot. Overall, the course is decent and it is the only viable course for the average Joe here in Santa Clarita.
