I played again today at VV. Overall, I think this course is really starting to lag on the maintenance. Really, even a muni should keep their course more "Country Club" and less "Country." What I mean is this: groundskeepers should be mowing, weeding, and picking up debris such as leaves and tree litter. Sand traps should be raked, weeded, and edged. Vista Valencia used to be such a nice, little course to play. The weather has been great lately. Lots of rain followed by warm, sunny days. Optimal growing conditions. My personal opinion is that a golf course like this should be more park-like. It really shouldn't be too hard.

Greens: still recovering from aeration and sanding from about a month ago. They rolled okay but I would say at a medium slow pace. Mot many ball marks but there was an occasional spot that should have been fixed by the greenskeeper.

Fairways and rough: lots of litter and debris from the many trees. Hole 1 right side rough is a wasteland of range balls, leaves, bark, and small branches from the many eucalyptus trees. Weeds have taken over many parts of the course, including some fairways and collars around greens. Some of which have not even been mowed or weed whacked.

Tees: we played the blue tees and mostly they were okay. Some divots here and there. No sand/seed buckets to fill them, either. A couple could use some leveling. Nothing too severe overall, though.

Bunkers: many had old footprints from a least a day ago. Some had weeds growing in them. The edges of the bunkers were not trimmed. I don't know, maybe that's a new look.

Maybe they don't get enough money from the many players who frequent this course. Maybe they don't have a large enough grounds crew. I just believe this could be a much better experience if the course was given some more love from the grounds crew. The early morning, old-timer (senior) rate was $24.50 with a cart, sandwich, and beverage. I'm sure there's a little "You get what you pay for" included in that rate.

I went out today with a couple of buddies who frequent this course early Friday mornings. Of course, I did not check GK and they had just aerated the greens last Monday/Tuesday. That being said, the greens were the best part of the course!

Tees: we played the blues. It was mostly flat, but many tee markers were placed in poor areas that left us with slopes or long grass or weeds. Only a few divots, but no mix to fill them.

Fairways and rough: lots of weeds. It appears they have not mowed or watered lately. It was thin lies and some bare ground here and there. The rough was anything from dirt to a foot high grass and weeds. So many weeds here. Some of the fairways looked like no grass at all.

Bunkers: Lots of sand. Maybe it's the sand that was earmarked for the greens or just extra. I was in a few bunkers and there was ample amounts of fluffy, brown sand. It was a little wet at times, but not terrible to hit from.

Greens: Okay, so they aerated this past week. Looks like it will grow in fine in no time at all. There was just a little sand on the surface. The holes are still big and do affect the putts. Who likes to see their ball jump around like a kangaroo? Seriously, it was not that bad. Balls did have some hop to it, but a smooth stroke will yield okay results. It was also very slow as well.

Overall impression: They must have given the grounds crew a couple of extra days off after aeration. It looks like they need to mow and water this course. Some weed management is in order. There are only 7 par four holes and those fairways were in poor shape. Coming out of the winter we had, there should be no excuse for not growing grass. Sucks to play on a golf course, a short par 60, with not a lot of good turf. I will not say anything bad about the greens; they just aerated. In fact, that was the best part of the course. For $22.50 walking, POP 3:45 at 7:30 a.m. tee time, I guess it wasn't so bad.

Having played three vastly different courses in two days I felt compelled to rate my home course Vista. I played Thursday at 3, rode the blues with my son and three friends. I know I upset the golf gods going out as a fivesome, but it was a good time. After we skipped the super slow group ahead of us on 2 we flew, POP was 3.5 hours. The course conditions now are as good as it’s gonna get all year at vista. Tee boxes are hit and miss, fairways are thin, but you can find good lies, rough is nonexistent, traps are horrific. Sand traps are supposed to be sand, not concentrate. However the greens at vista are fantastic. Of the three courses I played(Tijeras Creek, Anaheim Hills and Vista) Vista’s are the best. They aren’t overly firm, they hold shots and they roll true. Now only if everyone knew this and they fixed their ball marks. I did 2 per green as a rule and I have taught my son to do the same. Customer service in the restaurant is good, all the pro shop guys are great except one that I seem to always get and he is miserable, worst at any course I’ve ever played. Regulars know who I’m talking about lol. I paid $7 with my golfzing membership which included cart and drink. If you live in north la county or Santa Clarita for the price it can’t be beat. I am an avid golfer and I actually enjoy myself at this course. But for the avid guy it’s a practice course.

I played here last Friday, getting out at about 8:00 a.m. with some guys from work. They all got a senior rate of $24 riding, including a breakfast sandwich and drink. I'd like to say I got that deal as well since I'm close to 60 years old, but I don't want the starter to get in any trouble. Let's just say it was great customer service and leave it at that!

Yes, this is an executive course, par 60, and it can be slow! I think we got through in about 3 hours and 30 minutes. Not too bad considering this is one of the slowest courses I have ever played.

Greens were medium fast, smooth, and soft enough to leave deep ball marks. I think folks have been fixing their ball marks lately because I saw only a few that needed attention.

Fairways and rough were in good shape. There were lots of thin and tight lies, but overall it was mostly lush and easy to hit from.

Bunkers are okay with lots of brownish, medium course sand. It's fairly easy to hit from these bunkers.

Tees are well used and some of them are a little overused. We played the white tees and I never had any real problems finding a good area to hit from.

As I said, the customer service was good. The starter thought at the senior price point they should be crowded with more golfers. I have to say, the food was not that good. I did get a domestic beer with my round, so I liked that. I'll probably come back since it's so close to home.

Rode the Blues (61.1/105/4386) with Keith and Jason mid day using Forelinx. POP was poor for an executive course, 4H, 15M on a packed Monday. Weather was great, close to 80 and clear with a little breeze. Had never played here. Fun par 61 executive course with many more legitimate holes than the yardage would indicate. Three long par 3's ranging from 191 - 222 all the way down to three short ones ranging from 81 - 104. None of the par 4's were tricked up, and one was 452 from the Blues. Signature hole is #17, a downhill medium length par 3 with an island green. Overall, a well designed shorter course. The bones are there but the conditions (other than the greens) are rough to very rough around the edges. The tees were poor. Numerous were thin/unlevel and could use divot repair. Both the fairways and rough were thin with numerous areas of hardpan. The sand I was in was surprising good. Greenside traps had plenty of sand, fairway traps were hard packed. The greens were the high light of the course. Firm, reasonably smooth and downright quick going downhill. Could have been great "but for" all the pitch marks. The customer service was excellent from everyone. Friendly player ambassador out making the rounds. No drink cart, but there was a busy snack shop at the turn. Basic carts, no GPS. Recommended knowing going in that the playing conditions will not wow you, but a fun layout.

Played for $13 with golfzing/TPC membership at 1:00. POP was 3 hours which is normal for this executive. Vista isn’t a course you would travel to, but if you live in Santa Clarita you can’t beat the price. I look at value in courses and you cant beat $13 with cart, Gatorade, 3 hour round and the large bucket of balls I hit after included with the $32 monthly membership for the TPC.

On to the course, I’m always amazed at these greens, for as much play they get, they are incredible shape. They roll true and make the course. Tee boxes are average, fairways are below average, there is no rough and traps are hit and miss. But for $7 after 4 and living 10 minutes from the course it’s hard to beat. You just have to know what you are playing, it’s not Valencia Country club.

Played on 6/23 and on 6/24 (2 days in a row) with a tee time between 9 am and 10 am on both days. POP was around 4 1/4 to 4 1/2 hours to play 18 on a weekend. Not bad. Tho' on Sunday, 6/24 we started about 15 - 20 minutes after our scheduled tee time. Course condition was just average. The tee boxes were looking a little thin, had lots of divots and sometimes the ground was too hard to put a tee in. It's been a while since we last played here. I forgot there's a creek running through the course with very tall reeds and other foliage in front of it that you need to carry on about 7 holes on your tee shot. Made it for a tough day. The fairways were just ok. There were lots of patches of bare ground, thin lies, yellow grass and mushy spots on the fairways. The rough were a little lush/deep that you need to keep a track where your ball is if you landed in these areas. There's a lot of sand traps on this course. I was in a lot of sand traps on both days. Some of the sand traps had water in it, some was hard packed wet sand and others were very sandy. I also didn't like it where others didn't rake after they hit out of the bunkers. Greens were just average. There were lots of unrepaired balls marks on the greens. Greens were putting a little slow on some holes and fast on other holes. This is an executive golf course with a lot of par 3s and par 4s. This is a good course to practice on as on some holes had an elevated tee box where you hit down to the green. Then there were others where you hit up to the green. Plus there's is their signature 17th hole which has an island green where you hit from an elevated tee to the green. There's three sets of tees with the back tees with total yardage around 4400 yards. There's a driving range here with mats, a short game area and a putting green. There's a restaurant and pro shop here. In addition they also have a 9 hole par 3 course which is also used for foot golf. In addition, it got windy here in the afternoon so it made it a challenge to hit into the wind.

Played again on 4/13/18 as part of our annual City of Santa Clarita Employee Golf Classic. Teeing off around 8:30 shotgun. I won't mention the horribly slow pace of my fellow employees, but we were eating hamburgers at around 2:00 p.m. The course conditions are about average for this time of year.

Fairways had decent coverage, but seemed a little hard pan under the turf.
Rough was a general mix of thin, dry, hard, and non-existent.
Tees were somewhat level and a little on the firm side. I had a little trouble pushing in my tees on a few holes.
Sand was in need of raking. Many bunkers looked like they have not been groomed for a week.

If you have not played here before, this is an executive size course with a par of 60. There are 7 par 4 holes (1, 4, 7, 9, 10, 15, 16); the rest are par 3 holes, several of which are very short yardages. The best hole is the island green on 17. Hardest holes are 9 and 10, which are very lengthy par 4 holes.

Discounts can be had on all the usual online third party discount sites and through the course itself.

Food and beverage are available, but not cheap for the level of quality.

Nice practice areas and a very popular driving range which is lighted at night.

I'd opt for other courses, but somehow I end up golfing here at least 3 or 4 times a year out of convenience.

Played Vista Valencia for the first time on Saturday, 11/4 teeing off around 10am. POP was slow at around 5 hours, partly because of tournaments in front of us, and partly because they let out 5-somes (we had 5.) I'm a walker, and the course isn't too difficult to walk. There are a couple of decent sized hills, but nothing too crazy. I had no idea what to expect from this executive course, and I was pleasantly surprised. The facilities are all close together...driving range is right next to the clubhouse, and two chipping/putting greens flank the range. This is definitely a busy facility, and there was a bit of a wait for a spot on the range. The range seemed to be mats only, but they were high quality and nice to hit from. Practice greens were nice, and matched the speed of the greens on the course. The course itself is in very nice shape. Tee boxes were level with nice coverage. Most of the holes are par 3's, and as expected there's some divot damage. The fairways were very nice. Great coverage with a few brown spots here and there, but overall a joy to hit from. The rough is a mixed bag, splotchy thick grass, hardpan, wood chips. Basically, keep it in the fairway! The greens were a treat to putt on. They have tons of undulation, and I didn't see many straight putts all day. They were running around 9.5-10 on the stimp, and relatively smooth. They were very soft and accepted just about any club thrown at them. I did notice some bumps and bobbles here and there, but nothing major. To me this course seemed to be a nice combination of Simi Hills and Debell, with some solid par 3's and greens that really make you think. It's definitely one of the best executive courses I've ever played. Couple that with good customer service and a reasonable rate, Vista Valencia is a definite recommend. I'll be back.
