Got out today at 11:15, $35 Donovan Daily deal w/hot dog, soda and cart. The hot dog was good. Pace was just shy of 5 hours, very typical. Due to the drought, they have stopped watering the first 100 or so yards of each hole, while maintaining water on the rest. A good strategy; that being said, conditions were ok at best. Every lie you see out there will be different due to the variety of grasses/weeds. Makes consistent shotmaking a chore. The greens were very bumpy and did not hold lines well. Fairways were tight with the aforementioned grass varieties making it tough to gauge how the ball would behave. Bunkers were above average with soft sand in most. Tee boxes were inconsistent, with some good. For the price, it's a good deal to whack a ball around a park for the day...but look elsewhere for a better golf experience.

Side note: No pre-round warmup, they were out of range balls (!)

Played Friday 10-17-14 Starter said they were punching the greens, we went out anyway. $28 each riding. A lot of cars in the parking lot was not a real good sign, but they have a decent sized driving range and a bar. Looked pretty open at the first tee but I knew it was not going to be a quick round. We were a twosome and we teed off after a threesome.
The course: knowing this course I was not expecting much. The course was way over watered, a lot of standing water out there although it was mostly around the tee areas and greens. Have to drive thru some flooded areas with the cart.
The fairways were thin but not wet at all. Never know what kind of crappy lie you will get to. The rough is pretty thick in some spots and then you get the bare dirt also. We had a few mud balls. It can be challenging just with the variety of surfaces you get to play off of. There are a lot of trees on the course, it is a flat course, the fairways are wide. The layout is questionable traffic wise in that you get a very reachable in two par five, (always wait for one or two players) followed by a par three, followed by a driveable par four. With them allowing fivesomes there was definitely some phone time.
The greens were very soft, held shots. Even though this course isn't the greatest conditions, it is challenging enough to come back to it. I am sure I will play it again as it is close to our office and a couple guys like to get out on Friday's . Some small wagers and good conversation, much better than working.

Played a morning round at Willowick on the 4th. Pace of play was fantastic, finished at just a little over 4 hours with a foursome on a holiday morning. Conditions were decent for a lower end municipal course like Willowick, tee boxes a little chewed and uneven, fairways were in nice shape, cut tight, a small bare spot here and there, but mostly along the fringes, middle of the fairways were fine. Rough was quite long around the greens and relatively short off the fairways. All the different kinds of grass makes it a little trickier hitting out of the rough, but I wouldn't trade that for higher green fees and uniform grass, when all I want to do is just play some golf. Greens were slow, but rolled pretty well and held their lines. Bunkers looked a little thin but had enough sand to make do. Had a great time out here as this course once again served its purpose, will be back.

Played last week and probably won't play here again. The pro shop had pretty much nothing in it, the course itself was hacked up and with uneven tee boxes, bare fairways and hacked up rough. Paid $26 to walk and would have had to pay $39 to ride. We were stuck behind a fivesome the entire time and waited at every hole. If you can pay $10-$15, why not play it, but its definitely was not worth the green fee.

Played Friday, 6/16. The course is in overall fair to good condition. The greens held shots and rolled with medium speed. The fairways are good. The rough is fair due to the inconsistent heights. The bunkers appeared to be decent (not in any). The tee boxes are fair because many are not level. The course is flat with wide open fairways and mature trees. There is a driving range that typically plays on grass, 3 practice putting greens, and a cafe with bar. Willowick is not going to wow you with layout or great conditions but the low green fees make it worth playing. You can now book tee times directly on their website even as a single.

I played Willowick 5/7/14 . The golf course is located in Santa Ana but owned by The City of Garden Grove . The course is old and has old trees but also has big wide fareways . The tee boxes were good & bad and the sand traps looked okay but my golf buddy said " the traps were thin with sand . " The best part of the golf course was the greens . Most of the greens are flat and have a good smooth speeds . For the first time in my life I shot a scorer of one under par . I made six birdie putts . The greens were very good to me .

Played Willowick this afternoon. For the walking twilight rate and occasional email discounts, the course would basically have to be all dirt for me to get upset about the conditions.

Played Willowick this afternoon. For the walking twilight rate and occasional email discounts, the course would basically have to be all dirt for me to get upset about the conditions.

Tee Boxes- I can see they have been trying to move them around, but I think the course just gets too much play, many were very thin, especially the par 3's, also there only be 2-3 tee boxes that are actually level, the rest I would not consider to be severe, but were definitely unlevel.

Fairways- It still isn't spring time yet and considering the time of year and the severe drought, I was surpised to find them in a still playable condition. They did play pretty thin, not much in the way of bare spots, just dormant or dead grass.

Rough- Pretty much always inconsistent, sometimes short, sometimes long, sometimes non existent.

Bunkers- Not too bad, some were a little thin. All were playable.

Greens- I think they may have aerated a week or 2 ago as a couple greens had punch marks still healing up around the fringes, greens played slow and often a little bumpy, if you are used to smooth putts outside of 10 feet, you would probably get a little frustrated.

Overall, I still always have a good time playing here, it is the local value course you could grow up playing on.

Have not played out here in at least 15 years. This is some basic golf. Tees, fairways and sand were in good shape. Rough is up and with the leaves under the trees if you stray from the fairway you can easily lose your ball. Greens were in very good shape and had very little divot damage. No facilities on the course (the one bathroom they did have was locked up). Staff is friendly and POP was a little over 3.5 hours. Good course to walk.

The course is in fair to good condition. The greens rolled decent, medium speed, and held shots. The fairways are good. The rough is good but not uniform length around the course. The tee boxes are fair mostly due to several being unlevel. The bunkers are fair, meaning thin on sand but playable. Willowick is a short (6000yrds) flat course. The conditions and layout are basic but the low green fees make it worth playing. There is a driving range that rotates between mats and grass and three practice putting greens. The club house has a bar and cafe.
