Have played Green Treen off and on for 20 years, but have never seen it in this bad of shape. :-(

Customer service: Bad. -There was one girl working her butt off to check in about 100 golfers for a 9am shotgun! The course knew ahead of time there were two large groups scheduled for play and they have one desk clerk(?) Wow. The bar/dining area was being well-taken care of by a very nice young lady. No cart girl on the course. (Usually isn't.)

Fairways: Thin-to-uncut and wet. (Check the previous reviews.) Very hard to get a decent lie.

Greens: Terrible! They let a weed (not poa annua) take over and what was one of the best courses in SoCal for greens are now a bumpy mess. The back left corner of #16 is completely dirt!

Rough: Anywhere from wet and lush to absolute dirt hard pan.

Tee boxes: Tons of unfixed divots, but pretty much level and lush. (#3's 'white' tee box has turned into a dirt/weed area and the whites are now up with the reds.)

Bunkers: By far the best part of the course right now! They were fluffy and well-groomed.

Yes, it's November right now and most courses are hurting some, and GT is a nice layout and fun to play when in good shape, but I would wait until spring time to even think about playing here again.

Where to begin... I've played Green Tree three times in the past three years and this is the first time I've been completely disappointed by the conditioning. I would expect the course to be in at least passable shape for a Saturday tournament, but today left much to be desired. Overseeded tee boxes were approaching 1.5 inches in length giving them a VERY grizzled appearance (Why are they overseeding the tee boxes anyway?) Fairways were the best part of the course and they were in typical muni shape with very little to complain about. Rough was terribly patchy and balls would settle into bare dirt between patches. Bunkers had maybe 1/4-1/2 of sand on top of compact dirt/clay/concrete/whatever. Then there were the greens... I knew there was going to be trouble when the second hole had about 10 unrepaired ball marks AND some other massive divots caused by who knows what within 10 feet of the cup. The greens were extremely bumpy and are being invaded by some kind of creeping weed that I was not familiar with (If I ever figure it out I'll make a post about it). Overall, it was just a really disappointing experience at a course that I used to enjoy.

I don't know what's going on here. I first played here about a year and a half ago and go up about once a month to play with a friend. Something about the course and staff (restaurant) that I really like but the past two times the course has been in absolutely awful condition. I keep hearing how they are trying to get it back to where it was years ago, can't say personally, but guess it was pretty nice, but I thought it was good for a long time until recently. There are areas that are so tore up it looks like some kid took his tractor on a drunk drive through the course. Patches of dirt and clumps of bad looking grass throughout. I say this not to be mean but in hopes someone at the course reads this and cares enough to change this downward trend. I love this place but now probably won't be back for a few months to see if things have changed. it's a nice layout, variety of different holes and great specials but even that isn't enough to play a track that all of a sudden is going downhill again. I'll have to follow up in the new year to see if things have improved.

I see much improvement but still a way to go. There were areas in the fairway that were soaking wet and, since I know you will be reading this, you must get seed bottles on the carts. There are divots everywhere and with no seed on the carts they just stay divots. The next big negative were the sand traps! Every one we saw was hard packed and I landed in one that we saw the splash from 140 out and I had to use the rake to fish through the water to find my ball. I know there was some rain this week so maybe that was the cause of it. I still find this an enjoyable course to play and will be back!

A little disappointed with the progress. I know they have been working hard to get this course back to what it once was. There has not been much improvement in the last month.Still many dead ares in the fairways. The greens have slowed down but that could be the rain they have had. I still have hopes that it will get better, I know how much they want to get things back in order and that they are working on it!

Before I moved out of the country, we had a tradition of going to Victorville on Father's Day weekend for the Huck Finn Jubille bluegrass festival at Mojave Narrows. In conjunction with this, we play in our own little four-ball tournament we like to call "The High Desert Classic". Been doing this for years. I planned my home-visit this year around this annual event...so imagine my disappointment whne we played at 07:40 A.M. on Saturday the 16th of June - and had to walk off the course and demand our money back after the front-nine holes TOOK US THREE HOURS AND FIFTEEN MINUTES!!! I shoulda known there was going to be trouble when I missed the parking lot driveway an hour before our tee-time and noticed that there was a fivesome on the third-tee which I could see from the road as I turned around. More trouble awaited when it took the girl behind the counter 15 minutes to check the group ahead of us in. When the group in front of us tee'd-off and only had two-sets of clubs for the three of them - - I should have immediately called the marshal - but - I have never called a marshal before my first tee-shot. We complained after the third hole - and to his credit - the marshal responded and told them to "pick it up". They pulled-aside and let us play through on a par-four (even they had to admit that they were holding everybody up!) - - we then saw the marshal doing the right thing and giving the one guy a set of rental clubs!! It backed-up again on a par-three...there was a three-group back-up. This wnet on for three full hours. When we went to cross the street to the 10th hole - there were four groups waiting to tee-off. Enough is enough! We went into the pro-shop and demanded out $$$ back. They resisted at first - but then - the marshal who had been out there and seen our dilemma first-hand told the counter-girl to give us full refunds. There is no excuse for this!! How was the course? I don't remember and I don't care. It was three-hours and fifteen-minutes of nine-holes of pure torture. The bluegrass music at the festival was great, as usual - but the tradition of the High Desert Classic ended this year! Shameful!

Played today for Mother's Day. Course is FINALLY coming back to its previous glory- the hidden jewel of the desert! This has always been one of my favorite tracks- a little something for everyone. Its challenging at times without being punishing. Today the fairways were back to prior lushness. They were excessively wet in areas but I'd trade that for having no bare spots! Greens looked perfect- but didn't roll as fast as expected. Because they were slow they weren't really breaking at all. The sand was the most disappointing aspect of the course today. It was soaking wet, packed down, and most traps had standing water in them. I know the course has issues being in the desert but it used to be a perfect track with no water issues...so there must be a way to do it! We found out the past super is now the GM and it's obvious the new super is doing a good job! I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing all the plans Casper Golf has been telling us about come to fruition! (AND the Sunday Brunch is only $6 to those who golf the course! What a deal!) Say hi to Amanda when you play!

Played 5/13/12. Course is coming along nicely. Only 2 negatives. Fairways were very wet in many spots but only small areas of puddling, and the bunkers were wet ( some with a lot of water in them) and hard packed. Couldn't blast out but played ok as long as you took into consideration the firmness. Now the good stuff. If you have read previous reviews I was disappointed with the course for a while. Bare spots were numerous and greens were inconsistent. Much of that has changed. Fairways were immaculate rough was mildly punishing but not unplayable, as they should be. Greens were a little slow for desert greens but rolled true and held well. Service is great and found out the food is even better. Looking forward to playing again and if they offer the Advantage Card again, I will definitely take advantage.(Pun intended) If I remember right it was $38 for the card and you get that round with cart and for the rest of the year you can play for $19 w/cart anytime midweek and after 10 on weekends. They also offer occasional specials in addition as well. Really pleased with the improvements and hope they keep it up. Well done Green Tree!

Course is in better shape than this summer. Still not perfect but getting there.There were some dead spots in the fairways but most of the fairways were nice and lush. Greens rolled pretty good but some were soft and held well and others were hard and the ball would roll off. They will be punching the greens later this month so it will be interesting to see how they play after. Bunkers were a bit firm but ok. Lets hope by this summer its back to what it used to be!
