I generally don't play "away" on Fridays, but with Coto being closed Thurs/Fri & Sat for a member guest, decided on Oceanside as they only charge $1.00 more for Fridays and I was told it would not be too crowded. No problem getting out first and walked in under 2 1/2 hours at a nice easy pace. Course is in some of the best condition I have seen it in. Greens were very nice, fairways good, lots of sand in the bunkers, although some were not raked. (Yesterdays play?) Tee boxes for the most part are fine. I very much enjoy playing this course. I find it fun, interesting, enough of a challenge to keep my interest. It may not be the most visually appealing golf course, but it offers good value and solid traditional style golf.

Played here today (5/14) on an overcast but mild day. Greens: greens are in great condition; smooth, medium to fast speed and firm. Fairways: very good condition, a few too many divots but I guess that because there are a lot of walkers and they don't have any sand. Rough: 1-3 high with many bare spots. If you stray too far, you end up in the DG. Traps: good condition but there are some lazy golfers that don't rake the traps. POP: just over 4 hours. Very good grass driving range and 2 practice greens. A good Muni in better than average condition except for the DG. Give it a try!

Update on aeration, started today and should be completed by Thursday. Normally it will take 2-3 weeks for the greens to heal.

Finally starting to play again after a few medical issues. Greens: smooth, fast and firm. Fairways: decent considering all the rain. Traps: very good condition. Rough: hasn't been mowed, 3-5" high and lots of bare spots. POP: 4 hours. Good practice areas; grass driving range and two practice greens. Still a lot of standing water in the low areas but overall in decent condition considering the rainy weather.

First off a few minutes after 6am. Very cold, mid 30's, and frost present, but not on the greens which were really nice. The greens which were mowed were reasonably fast and rolled well. Most of the fairways were in good shape, but the areas adjacent to the fairways still showed the residual of all the rains. (Lots of flooded areas) Only in one bunker - well maintained and plenty of sand.

Staff is always friendly and accommodating. Enjoy playing this course despite the fact it is not the most visually appealing course at times.

Oceanside is becoming a "go to" course because I never have any problem getting out early with last minute notice. I recognize this may not be everyone's favorite golf course, but it is a lot of fun to play ! Except for holes #15 & #16, all the holes are very reachable for this senior, even from the blue tees, plus they provide interest. 15 & 16 are just long straight holes, for us shorter hitters, making them somewhat uninteresting.

Greens rolled very nicely, faster than they appeared. The greenside bunkers were excellent, ugly sand, but lots of it and well maintained. Fairways are good, not great. The areas which they have removed sod for water conservation, give the course a rather unpleasant look, but those areas are not really inplay anyway. (Or shouldn't be)

Staff is always accommodating. If this course were closer, I'd play here a lot more frequently.

With sunrise now being so late, tough to find a place to get out super early and avoid the crowds. Called many courses, and only Oceanside indicated there would be no issue, so back I returned. Not ... Continue »

With sunrise now being so late, tough to find a place to get out super early and avoid the crowds. Called many courses, and only Oceanside indicated there would be no issue, so back I returned. Not much change since my prior review. Greens still by far the best part of the course. Fairways were for the most part in good condition, as are the bunkers, its just when/if you stray from the fairways that you'll encounter all the bare areas. (Some intentional)

The more I play here, the more I like this course. It's just a fun, interesting, economical layout, with easy access and a very accommodating staff.

Greens - healed, in good condition.

Fairways - better than average condition!

Traps - plenty of sand and raked.

Good condition for a Muni!

Greens-punched last week and were bumpy, should be in good condition within another 7-10 days.

Fairways - very good condition, few too many unfilled divots.

Rough - many bare spots.

Traps - raked.

POP - just over 4 hours.

Excellent driving range and two practice greens.
