My buddy and I played out here on Saturday, 3/10 with an 8:00 tee time we got on Golfnow.com for $34 (walking). At this time I would say this is the most I would pay for this course. There were a lot of positives to my visit, but the course conditions overall are pretty poor and the layout isn't terribly interesting.

One thing I will say is that the greens were exceptional. They were firm, but held shots. The rolled true and were very fast. I think these may be some of the trickiest greens I've played around the area. They were definitely the biggest plus of the day. Another positive was the staff. Guys in the shop were great, ladies in the snack bar and on the cart were cool, and I had an incredibly delicious breakfast sandwich in the restaurant. I definitely felt like they care about their customers.

The last major plus was the pace of play. We finished right under 4 hours as a foursome (two of us walking). That's just amazing on a Sunday morning.

Now to the "needs work" department. The fairways were not good at all. Like really bad. Most of the time I couldn't really tell where fairways ended and the rough began. And most of the tees were pretty chewed up. I do think that you have to give the new ownership some time to get this thing up to speed. They have a HUGE challenge ahead of them.

The course layout itself isn't that memorable. There are a few interesting holes, but mostly you're getting some pretty run of the mill golf here. However, it is five minutes from my house, the staff was great, you can see the owners are putting some time and money in the place so I plan on going back to see how things progress.

Practice greens were great - wish the greens on the course were. Fairways were hit and miss with many areas of hardpan on several holes. Course greens would not hold good approach shots - usually rolling off the back. Not a very long course - with the exception of one 600+ yard dogleg par five with the smallest green of all eighteen. Would have been nice to have more on course "accurate" yardage markers to help in club selection. We were told new owners just took over a couple weeks ago and hope they can make the place more player friendly. Staff was friendly - make a point to visit the snack bar to see the nice scenery in there!

With the new Management Company in place. You can see a real change developing on the golf Course. Lot of trees have been removed and the course has the country club feel coming back to it.
The staff has a new face with lots of smiles and the restaurant is so much better with new food items. They have added a snack bar with BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs.
The course is a great pleasure to play than in the past 5 years..

I wasn't sure I was going to play golf today, but I found a "hot deal" on GolfNow this morning for Lake San Marcos (the regulation course, not the executive one) for $19.99 at 11:37. Even though I knew this course was nothing too exciting, I took advantage of that rate and headed down there. Well, I am not sure it was even worth that rate as the course (with the exception of the greens) was in awful shape. Most fairways and rough areas were nothing but hardpan and very thin, dried out patches of what was once grass. Around the greens, the rough was a little more lush, but still pretty inconsistent. The greens, however, were great. Soft and smooth...just about perfect. There were a couple of fairways on the back that were in pretty good shape, but the front was terrible and so was most of the back nine.

The course itself is interesting. The front nine isn't anything too spectacular, but the back nine gets very interesting and challenging. The 10th (from the blue tees) is a 460-yard par-4, the 12th is a beast of a par-5 at over 600 yards with a major dogleg left. Pretty much a big U around a hillside that culminates in a small and crazily-undulated green. Some of the holes out here would actually be very pretty if the course was in good shape, so it's kind of a shame. Glad I only paid $20.

played 6-3 early morning on a sunday. found a good deal on golfguide.org for $23 any day any time. this course is not in good shape. tee boxes very thin with a lot of divot damage and you had to search for a level spot. fairways on the thin side except where they had standing water and the grass had grown up to about 8 Inches around it.rough pretty thin with a lot of bare spots. thankfully didnt go into any sand traps but you could see all the good sized rocks in them. greens where a little soft and on the slow side with a lot of divot damage. even with the great deal i got i to me it wasnt worth the price.

This place is a mess. We purchased a living social golf deal for this place (2 for 1 greensfees including cart, two buckets of range balls and a bucket of beers) for 65 dollars. The Bucket of balls was a small bag of balls (which they ran out of and my guest couldnt warm up). The bucket of beers wasnt a bucket, it was 4 beers (MGD, miller light or bud light) and the proshop guy said to you get two at the turn and two to start (seriously?). The range had only two flags vs the 5 on their little board with the yardage and had no markers to tell people where to stand on the tee box. The course doesnt allow you to tee off before a specific time unless you are a member. Im ok with that but if you are going to enforce that rule, enforce standards of a private course - like keeping people moving and on time. We teed off 30 mins late for a 11:07 tee time (wasnt allowed to tee off earlier) and it took 2.5 hours to play 9 holes. Unacceptable for a private course. The tee boxes werent level on most holes. The condition of the fairways and greens were the bright spot - satisfactory but nothing special. This place is terrible and they have a long way to go to be considered worth the 32.50 we paid. Oh I forgot, they dont manage the carts well so we grabbed what we thought was a new cart and it died on the first hole.

I played 9/10 and am happy to say that the course has dramatically improved from when I played it about a year ago. I told myself that I would never comeback to this course but I noticed some of the comments indicating improvement and a < $20 green fee from golfhub so I decided why not try it out. The greens were severely diseased previously but are now in very fair to good condition. From the blue tees, the course is not very long at about 6400 yards but I enjoy the layout and some of the holes were very fun and challenging. The one bunker I was in had good coverage. Some of the fairways needed some work but it looks like they are working to improve the overall condition of the course. The driving range is no longer free but they have a nice practice putting and chipping green. The golf carts are old and I kind of expect more from a "country club" but I will be back. Keep it up guys....making good progress.
