Played the crossings Weds morning and the course is in pretty good shape. The good-Bunkers were near perfect, maybe had a little to much sand as a ball plugged in one, but that is what happens sometimes when you hit a poor shot, but they were in great shape, Fairways were in good shape with no bare spots and looked like most divots were being repaired with sand. The customer service was top notch from the time we got there to having the bags taken up to the top. The only complaint was on 18 the maintenance crew was out watering and left standing water in the fairway, no place to drop that was not in a soaked area of the fairway. This probably could have waited until later in the day because it was not overly warm. Tee boxes were great and level.

The Average: The greens are getting a little marked up. I hope that the crossings used a different kind of grass than Encinitas Ranch did on their course because they will be in real trouble if they didn't and cant get the ball marks fixed and the greens healing properly. They were not bad and the putts rolled true, but I expected a little better after coming out of fall maintenance a couple of months ago.

The change to the 18th green is great and I enjoy finally having a chance to make a par or even a birdie on this hole now that the old green is gone.

I played on Sat., Oct. 27. It was a beautiful day. There was a lot going on at the course....a wedding was in process at the grounds, plenty of people using the practice facility and a small crowd at the number one tee. I was initially worried about how the pace on the course was going to be since the starter seemed flustered and we went off about 10 minutes late but the flow throughout the round was decent. The course conditions were decent overall. Some of the tee boxes were a bit chewed up but still decent. My biggest complaint were the greens. They seem to be easily damaged. There were tons of spike marks and many unrepaired divots. Also, the phone number to call in food orders from the 9th tee didn't seem right since it just kept ringing. Despite these downsides, I will be back since I enjoy the facilities and the layout of the course.

had 12 noon tee time @ senior rate on a Thursday. Starter rushed me to catch up to twosome already in #1 fairway, 10minutes early. no time on practice green. then it was wait behind slow 4somes ahead of us. we were now a 4some, too. what was the big hurry if we were going to wait anyway? at #10 teebox waited nearly 30 mins. for 2 groups backed up. fairways were brown and #1, for example, was recently fertilized. greens were super fast. traps were very hard pan, with 1-2 inches of soft sand. layout was interesting, with lots of elevation changes. par 3s were surprisingly short. snack bar only had white bread for sandwiches at 11:15 am. at $69 not worth the price for thin fairways and slow play.

Played 10/10/12, pace was ok just that the 4some in front of us played really slow! The greens were a little chewed up & were really bumpy. Bunkers looked good, fortunately didn't go into one. Fairways were good but not great, some areas were burnt out, but nothing too bad. Rough was good and didn't penalize too much. Tee boxes were great, very level from the blue markers. Overall, a nice day, I played here when it first opened and there's a really big difference. The course is showing it's age.

played 9/25; course coming back well from aeration, reseeding etc. some heavy watering going on, tees a little long, but this time of year one has to concede to some course imperfections, #18 green is a definite improvement over the old green, one big complaint is that the mat turf on the practice area JUST will not accept any tee over 1/2 inch, everyone asking each other for short tees, looks like they restocked with some fresh range balls, so that was nice, also, staff is among the best for courtesy, help. etc.

First time playing here on 9/2/12 at a 2:42 tee-time. Upon arriving, the staff was extremely friendly and asked if we had a tee-time, after which they took our clubs and put them on the cart which they told us would be waiting for us near the starter after checking-in with the pro shop. Pro shop staff was friendly as well. After a quick walk down to our waiting cart, the starter was very quick to offer us some playing tips and warnings about the course. It was helpful to have this information seeing as it was our first time, doubtful that regulars get these course tips every time. We teed off right on time and the course was still packed seeing as it was a Sunday with a 3-day weekend. The course itself was in good shape. The tee-boxes had ample flat/green space to work with. The fairways were undulating but consistently green throughout (there may have been some burns throughout but the sun has been baking San Diego for months now). The rough had some thick areas to it but nothing that was impossible to get out of. There is lots of out of bounds and protected areas so watch for those when choosing your shot. I enjoyed the layout as it played similarly to Mt. Woodson and Salt Creek in San Diego County. The only "complaint" I might have had about the course were the greens. They were very inconsistent and no hole except 18 had a smooth green. Besides divots everywhere our foursome agreed they were exceedingly bumpy. Other than that, if you can find a reasonable rate to play here I would highly recommend it. Pace of play was right around 4.5 hours though after our group, groups were being allowed to play as twosomes and everyone was rushing to try and get all 18 in before sunset. Also, after 6:00pm, watch out for the haze and last few holes that play directly into the sun.

Played here on Labor Day (9/03) with the wife. We drove down to Carlsbad for the weekend and since we've never golfed here we thought we'd give it a try. Weather was about 82 degrees, but you do get a little coastal breeze. The course was packed, and our 9:18a tee time was about 10 minutes late. The course is in pretty good shape, not the kind of shape that you would expect if you paid the $110 rack rate they were asking, but was worth what we paid. The tee boxes were good, not too chewed up. The fairways were mostly tight and green, with a few brown and bare spots here and there. The sand traps were pretty loose, not too compacted or dirty. The rough was pretty thick and on a couple shots I could feel the grass twist my clubface. The greens were in very good shape, the roll was quick in the morning but not unfair. They did firm up quite a bit around noon. The undulations on some of the holes were ridiculous, so 3 putts can come quickly if you're not on the same level as the flagstick. Even from the blues tees the course plays long. A lot of forced carries and blind tee shots make it a challenge. When in doubt on this course...go with one more clublength. The back 9 is definitely tougher than the front 9, and overall the course isn't for the weak of heart. As mentioned in previous reviews, there is a lot of cart path to travel, a lot of airplanes flying overhead, and transmission towers throughout the course. That being said, if you can find a good deal online, this course is worth it. Definitely worth the green fees if you're a SD or Carlsbad resident, or if your a member.

PS...I heard that they will be aerating the course soon, so check with proshop to find out details.

Played the 26th. First time I've ever played this course. #1 - It seems overpriced. Greens, fairways, bunkers, and rough were all in in good condition - but not great.
The layout is average at best - a bunch of forced carries. Greens were not very flat and had lots of undulations.

Lots of planes taking off overhead and plenty of wind in this area because its exposed.

I like playing new courses and it was worth the 70 bucks to play it just once. But I won't be coming back at that rate... there are better values to be had in the area.
