Made a solo reservation in advance and showed up early on 4/7/13. Checked-in with the friendly guys in the pro shop and went over to the turf practice tee to hit some warm-ups (cart and balls are included in the fee). The starter swung by about 30 mins later and offered an earlier start with three local players -- which I appreciated.

The weather was great. Clear skies, warm, and virtually no wind. The course was even better. Because it's about 40 mins south of Las Vegas, Primm Valley is quiet and there are no houses around it. Nothing to to distract you.

Conditions were good from tee to green. Level and well groomed tee boxes, and with the exception of divots, I can't remember any bare spots in the fairways. The rough was a few inches deep, but because many of the fairways are framed by hills and mounds that funnel errant balls (especially those hit to the right) back into the fairway, the rough isn't a major factor. But like any desert course, if you shank or hook, you can end up in a waste area.

The bunkers were in pretty good shape. The sand wasn't fluffy, but it wasn't hard or crusty either. Luckily, I didn't roll into any of the really deep green-side traps, some of which have pretty steep faces.

There's water on the course as well, though I don't recall that any that had to be carried.

The greens were fairly fast and hard, but it's the desert. Right? The ball would tend to bounce and release more than usual, but you'll also have fewer ball marks to fix. And, it forces you to think a little more before hitting an approach, pitch or chip. There's a lot of tiered and sloped greens, which means a lot of uphill and downhill putting. Again, you're forced to look and think a lot more before you stroke the ball.

PoP was a leisurely 4.5 hours and surprisingly, we didn't wait on a single tee -- and this was a Sunday.

I had a very enjoyable experience on the Desert course at Primm Valley -- my playing partners Robert, Bill and Joey were all great guys -- and will return to try the Lakes course as soon as possible.

We played it on 11/2 around 2:30PM after our morning round at the Lakes. Replay rates were $45 so it was a huge discount compared to the prime rate of $135. At $45 twilight/ replay rate, this course is so worth the 40 minute drive from the strip. Tee box was little long for my liking but it made the tee box look very green. Fairways were in decent shape with few bare spots where Rye didn't grow over. Desert course in my opinion was in better shape than the Lakes course and I enjoyed the layout here better. Customer service is impeccable at every level with 1 exception of bartender. She wasn't very friendly nor did she seem like she wanted to be there that day. Bunkers were somewhat inconsistent. Some had decent layer of sand while some others were thin and was more like waste area. Greens were very soft and rolled well even though it didn't look all that smooth or green. If you're looking for value, I would highly recommend coming out here in the afternoon to play a round. Every bit of great layout as other higher end courses in similar conditions. Only catch is you have to drive 40 minutes. P.S. try not to speed, I saw 3 different police cars on the way there.

Played on August 4th at 10 a.m. which is twilight during the summer for $35. Great layout if you can stand the heat. There was an issue with pace of play and the course responded immediately by letting us reroute and sending someone to deal with the slow group.

I could play this course a lot, the only negatives being the somewhat slow speed of the greens (I'm guessing the heat has a lot to do with that) and the lack of sand in the bunkers. It seems like that should be easy to fix.

The bottom line is if you have the chance to play this course, do it. If you're choosing between Desert and Lakes, it's mostly personal preference, but the desert course is the harder course, the Lakes is more traditional (and prettier unless you like that rugged look).

Played Desert course this past weekend (6-8 and 6-9) in a tournament. Tee'd off 2pm and 1pm. Overall I like the course. Its a fun layout and maintained very nicely. It is located in the middle of the valley so if it is windy, as it was for us 25-30 gusts, the course can be very tricky. First thing to remember is you are playing golf in the desert so the greens are rock hard but that's desert golf. Course was in above average shape. Rough not too penalizing. My gripes...1.) Bunkers were a disaster., .5 inches of good sand then .5 of crappy hard packed sand then the liner (in some places) 2.) Every 5 minutes the gps on cart is telling us to fix divots and there are signs everywhere. I didn't fix a single one all weekend. Why? because both days the bottles were empty. How can you expect me to take it seriously if you don't?

Played a tourney here 5-20-12. Course was a little rough around the edges. Needs some maintenance. Tee boxes were good. Fairways were good. Greens were ok. Not as good as the Lakes course. Bunkers were good. Got up and down for par from the fairway bunker about 50-60 yards short of the green on 18. It is a great layout. We played from the white tees. So did not get to feel the teeth of this course. I would say this one is alot harder than the Lakes from the back tees. You really need to drive your ball into position here. A good drive makes for an easier shot to the green. Definitely a course you need to play a few times to know where to hit it. Will play again. A word of advice. If you do not mind a little extra drive. Stay in Vegas. The hotels in Primm are a little run down.

Played our men's club weekender practice round on the Desert course. The course was in outstanding condition, customer service as usual was great. Greens were med fast, they were still healing from the verticut and sanding, most putts rolled true and at times fast. Bunkers were hard pan with 2-3 inches of sand, tough to get out of since most have a high section facing the green, and especially difficult for high handicappers, and at times for our low handicappers. Otherwise a great experience as usual.

There were at least 4 tournaments going out each day on both the Desert and Lakes courses. Some were from Canada, Inland Empire, and Orange county.

It wasn't very busy since the weather wasn't ideal (cold and windy). Still had a great time and shot a good score. I want to play the Lakes next time, but the Desert was definitely fun to play and in great condition.

Played here on an early tee time on the way home from Vegas. It was definitely worth the early rise to get in early enough to beat some of the heat. The course was in great shape, and a ton of fun to play. The desert waste areas are open enough to track down a lot of bad shoots (of which I hit a lot). They are also spread out so you are not carrying vast chucks of desert. For the most part, if you hit straight, you can land it in the fairway at any distance.

At 45 minutes, I would even drive here and back to play on a weekend in Vegas, heck, play it twice, once on the Lakes and once on the Desert.
