First time here ... words do not describe this golf course. In fact, I hesitate to call it a 'golf course' the beauty is simply spectacular. I cannot add anything to what the previous posts have mentioned, only this: if you can afford it you MUST play Spyglass Hill before you leave this earth.

What a magnificent course! I questioned whether any course could be worth $300+ for a round. The answer is an emphatic YES! This is the best course I have ever played. I was a little intimidated before playing, after reading the Spyglass website about how narrow the fairways were, how troublesome the rough was, etc . . So I had a case of serious nerves going into the round. Those nerves were quickly put to rest. We were paired up with two guys from SoCal and their caddy Dave. The landing areas are plenty wide, it is the approaches to the greens that can get you into trouble here. RTJ uses the environment nature provided, view, ocean, canyons, and trees to give you a stern test. The greens were faster than any I had ever putted, but they rolled true and smooth. The course makes you think, but it rewards good shots, and penalizes (sometimes severely) poor shots. That's in my mind, what a remarkable course should do. From the moment we pulled up, to the deer on the driving range, the final putt on 18, until we pulled out of the parking lot, this could not have been a more enjoyable round of golf. It was about 4.5 hours of drama, excitement, laughter, and tears that it seemed to end too soon. Would I play this course again? . . In a heartbeat!!!!

played spyglass today(06-21-2008). what a course. it is what evertbody says and more. the course i think beats pebble beach hands down. it makes you think all the time. there are very few flat lies, down hill, up hill, ball below your feet, ball above your feet. from the white tees fairway bunkers come into play alot. placing your drives is very important. greens held the shots, if you have the guts to fire at the pins, the greens held the shot. the people are really friendly and responsive. one of the guy's got a caddy and he was always reminding everybody where the ocean was, and what way the ball broke on the greens. ball aways sat up in the fairways, first cut and second cut. you could axtually get your club on the ball!!!!!!! next time i think i'll try to walk the course. there are maybe five fairways that are really steep. other wise it is hilly but walkable.

Played in August 5th, 2007. My favorite course I've ever played. Went out very early. Would like to play it again in the afternoon and see how it plays then, but it truly is a gem. If I had to play Spyglass or Pebble, it would be Spyglass no question.

played sat. june 30th. perfect condition..... this is what golf was meant to be. A fair test for all golfers. the short par 3s give you a chance to make some par's. look out for the greenside bunkers they make you pay with any missed shots! greens roll TRUE. keep it in play and you will have a great day regardles of your score!

Played 4/11 and got out at 10:00. WOW!! Now I know what a truely great golf course is all about. The first 5 holes yield some spectacular ocean views. Holes 6-18 then wind thru the rolling hills of the Del Monte forest and gives you the feel of a South Carolina location. Course was in great condition, although the greens had been punched on 4/3, they still rolled pretty good. I rated them a "10" based upon them completely healing within a few days. I never thought that any course would be worth a $310 green fee, but I have changed my mind. I would love to get back and play this track. A wonderful experience that I would highly recommend to anyone. You can make reservations 30 days in advance, even without a stay at the PB lodge. I will try and post some pictures in a few days.

A very special course. The first five holes will be remembered for the rest of your life, playing down-to and within a stone's-throw of the ocean. The first hole is a sweeping par 5, very reachable, but---watch out! The bunkering is intimidating and pin placement needs to be paid attention to. "On in regulation" can lead to an easy bogey if your first putt is rushed. And this is just the beginning! Savor every hole! #6 leads you away from the coast and back into the hills. You'll be challenged with every shot in your bag. Expect nearly perfect lies everywhere in the fairway. Spyglass is an "old" course (about 45 years) but is not out-dated. You won't be disappointed you played here.

My favorite course. Pebble is the most beautiful golf course in the world, but unless the wind is blowing, its pretty tame. Want to challenge every part of your game? Play Spyglass for $200 less. If you're over a 9 handicap don't even think about playing the blue tees.

(A Southern Californian's review). We played 7/7 on the most perfect afternoon imaginable. The course is so beautiful, it's like it's not real. It looks like a movie set from a golfers best dream. Immaculate conditioning in every possible way. But she is a beauty with a dark side. This is one of, if not the all-time, hardest tracks I've ever played. If your game is even slightly off, you are in for a tough day. There is very little margin for error playing into most of the (extremely beautiful) green complexes. Missing the green by just a couple of feet exacts a very heavy penalty. Deep bunkers and deep rough. My game was off that afternoon and I shot the highest score I've had in close to 20 years, with the best score on any hole being bogey. And we played rom the middle tees. The course never lets up, and it's hard to find an easy hole where you can take a breath and recover. If I had one complaint, it's that the course is cart-path only all the time. Had we known, we'd have booked caddies. Even with a caddie it would be a long, tiring, hilly walk. It is still an absolutely drop-dead beautiful course, but it's like being beat senseless by Miss Universe.
