Played here today in a tournament. The course has been under new ownership for a bit now and per employee's, it sounds like the new owner really wants to make this a decent course. There are plans in the works for a new clubhouse that is actually a pro shop with a restaurant and not just a rectangular trailer up on blocks.

In the past the areas between the fairways just consisted of dirt. The course is now lined with tall fescue grass in between the fairways. It is extremely easy to loose a ball in this stuff and hitting out of it is a crap shoot.

The greens were smooth and soft. They were very receptive to approach shots but rolling very slow. Fairways were winter thin and tee boxes had numerous divots in them.

Previous posts by Nickesquire and I do a decent job explaining the layout, so I wont go into those details this time.

Played the Blues (6642/70.8/112) in 2.5H as a single twilight in partly cloudy conditions on a GN Hot Deal for less than $20. The customer service was excellent, quick efficient check-in and I was on the 1st tee before my scheduled tee time. Only saw a couple of 2somes playing twilight. Pro Shop is a trailer, no Starter, Marshall or Drink cart. The gas powered carts do not have GPS. The course was marked every 50 yards old school. The tees & fairways were a mixture of grasses, good coverage with few unfixed divots but winter thin. The primary rough was winter thin, mowed down and barely higher than the fairways. The secondary rough had been recently plowed under and was loose dirt. All the traps look like they were converted sand traps and are currently grass bunkers. Most need to be avoided, large lips and some of the thickest grass on the course presents a challenge. A few were hardpan. The large greens putted much better than they looked. Medium speed, relatively smooth and they held well struck irons very well. The layout is decent with large greens and little water or trees. Mostly flay with numerous dog legs and a decent amount of OB which was almost always on the left side. Below average playing conditions but the price was right. Recommended if you are willing to play in thin, spotty conditions.

Played the Blues (6642/70.8/112) in less than 3H as a single in overcast conditions. Previous reviews prepared me for the lack of trees, the all grass or dirt sand traps and the flat lay of the land. You start out with two straight par 5's and later have two straight par 3's on the front. You have played three par 5's before your second par 4 which is very unique. Like the five par 5, five par 3 setup. The par 5's are scoreable, the par 4's are average while the par 3's overall are challenging. (210/231/168/161/181 from the Blues). The layout is decent with numerous dog legs and large greens. However, the playing conditions are below average. The tees were mostly level and decent. Mixture of grasses, winter thin but few unfixed divots. The fairways were a mixture of grasses and had good coverage, winter thin. The secondary rough had been recently plowed under and the surroundings of hole after hole looked like a farm about to be planted? All the traps are grass bunkers. First I'll start with the basics of this course. Track is flat with no trees between the fairways. In fact it's mostly dirt between them. Sand traps have had all sand and dirt removed so they are just grass bunkers. Cart path is dirt and/or gravel so it gets dusty out there in the summer heat and wind. Carts are gas powered. There was no water stations out on the course (high 80's -low 90's when I played).

Club house/pro shop is just a small trailer. They have a cooler with drinks (water, Gatorade, beer, etc) and a hotdog machine. That's the extent of the clubhouse/pro shop.

Range is full grass and had the best hitting surface of the day. Having said that. Some of the range balls were so old the paint had peeled off and they were cracking. About 1/3 of the bucket consisted of balls in this shape.

The Gentleman at the check in counter was nice and friendly. There were very few people on the course when I played (maybe 5-10) so pace was super fast as a single.

The greens had been aerated a couple of weeks ago so I won't go into much detail about them other than they are flat.

Now that I've covered the basics, I'll get into the course itself.

With no water hazards, trees, or sand traps, it's a very scoreable course. The opening 9 has three par 5's and three Par 3's which is interesting. Two of the par 3's were long playing around 200 yards. In fact one was 225 from the whites. To add difficulty, it also had the smallest green out on the course.

The back 9 was fairly standard with the second par 5 being fairly short and reachable in 2 without too much effort.

Tee boxes were in pretty bad shape all around. The fairways were decent and the strong point of the course even though they were only average in quality.

Rack rate is $46/$57 (weekday/weekend). For that price the course is definitely not even close to worth it. I found a Golfnow deal for under $15 with cart and for that price I have no problem playing a quick midweek round here again.

If you are in the area and can only play one course in the Paso Robles area, do yourself a favor and play Hunter Ranch or Paso Robles Golf Course. Both are 5 minutes away and are way superior in quality. PRGC is also about the same price as the Links Course of Paso Robles so that's a no brainer.

The fairways have thin firm conditions with bare areas in many spots. The "rough" is bare dirt/weeds that for the most part has been completely cleared. The tee boxes range from fair to quite poor as many have very little grass and a few had basically none.

The wind was blowing extreme the day we played so the wide open nature of the course made it enjoyable and reminded me of why this is touted as a "links" (yes I know links are the strip of land between sea and terra firma).

I knew nothing about the course coming in so really had no idea what to expect. It's FLAT! It was designed as a "links-style" but many(most?) of the links-style sand bunkers have been allowed to fill in. There is very little to worry about in the form of hazards on this course except for the vineyards that have been planted bordering many of the fairways. I thought the fairways and greens were in very acceptable shape. There is no cover out here so I can see this course getting extremely baked in the summer. Rough was... rough. The section immediately bordering the fairway was usually short and okay but anything further off the fairway turned into a gamble between weeds, dirt, foot high grass, or a combination of the three. Tee boxes were firm but flat with thin coverage. POP was right around 3.5 hours and a fantastic deal for $10.

Holy crap it was hot!! 106 in Paso Robles on a sunny Friday afternoon 6/28/13, with almost no wind. Man, this was Vegas hot - crazy hot. About a half-dozen people on the course. We were getting pretty dizzy about #14, so we took more frequent breaks wherever we could find shade!!

This was a warmup (LOL) round for our Paso Robles golf weekend with my buddy from Rocklin. Nothing too strenuous here as there are almost no sand traps (those that were there originally, when this was planned as a residential/commercial development, have been allowed to grow in with bushy grasses), very few areas marked as hazards, and almost no wind, which can really make this course play tougher. Greens range in size from pretty small to very large. Greens were generally receptive and rolled OK at medium-slow speed, but some greens looked stressed and had scattered thin/bare areas.

Fairways were thins but lies were generally OK. Rough was very benign at 1-2". Fairways and rough were very dry and firm and you got a lot of rollout in all cases. The front was more flat than the back, and hitting corridors were more restricted on the back with bushes, marked areas, etc. being more constrictive.

Played at our own pace, including breaks, in 3hr20min. Paid a senior rate of $33 including cart. Recommended for a casual round.

I played here this morning, using up my GroupGolfer voucher ($29 with cart and range balls) before it expired in a couple weeks. I thought yesterday at Dairy Creek was cold, but today it was an insane 27 degrees when I showed up for my 6:30 tee time.

I tried calling earlier to see if there would be a frost delay, but nobody ever answered the phone and when I got to the course, the entry gate off the main road was locked shut! I sat in my car outside the gate for a little bit and a few other cars came up and did the same before someone finally opened the gate about 6:40. It was just me and a few hardcore local regulars attempting to play today. There was no frost delay, but they weren't allowing carts on the course until it melted off a little, so the front nine was walking only. I crunched my way through the super white and frosty turf on the front nine (walking actually helped keep me warmer, but the experience was surreal) and then picked up a cart at the turn. Whole round was under 3 hours with me playing by myself and first off the tee.

With all the frost, I couldn't really tell the conditions underneath, but it didn't seem bad. By the time I got to the back, the frost had melted off revealing mostly brown/dormant fairways and low-cut rough. The fairways weren't bad to play from. Some thin spots here and there. Rough was patchy in areas, but not horrible for this time of year. The greens were in pretty nice shape. Pretty smooth and rolled true. Bunkers had good soft sand.

The adventure of playing in the frost made the front nine more interesting than the layout offers. It's very flat and pretty wide open with hardly any trouble to get into. The fairway cuts are actually pretty narrow at times, but there's a ton of room off the fairways and the rough was easy to hit from being cut so low. Only a handful of trees on the whole course (lots of desert scrub bushes throughout) and only a few sand traps. There are a number of grass pot bunkers that give the layout some much-needed contour, but the rough in them wasn't very deep, so they were only a minor inconvenience. The back nine is much more enjoyable than the front. The hole designs are more interesting and there's a little more trouble to get into (but still not much).

This is an OK course and if you are looking for a major change of pace after playing Hunter Ranch across the street, this is it. It's fairly cheap, uncrowded and a little different than anything else in the area with a flat farmland-style links layout. Don't go there expecting to be impressed with the facilities, service, layout or conditions. It's just a very laid-back "locals" course that fits with the rural lifestyle around here. Everyone there was super friendly.

Finished 18 in less than 3 hours walking. Course conditions were firm but greens still held the shots well for a links layout. Putts rolled med-fast and smooth. Bunkers were gravelly. I suggest taking an older/beatup wedge to this course as the turf has metal gashing stones in it. I loved the wide open feel of the layout and the back side was much more interesting.
