Were this jewel of a golf course not located in the inland shadow of the mighty Bandon Dunes Resort it too would become a destination location for the lovers of challenging park land style golf courses. I played there about two weeks ago for the first time and was very impressed with the conditions, staff, layout and difficulty at this facility - which also has some on-course lodging features I didn't know about until that day.

There is a major risk-reward component to many tee shots, as the thigh high hay/rough can gobble up your birdie hopes in a hurry. #18 in particular took my hopes of a sub 80 round straight to hell as I carded a well deserved "Nueve." (Yep, I can't even say it. I almost cried, but I think it was just hay fever). Some is less penal, but much of it makes you think twice about grabbing the driver off the tee. Great greens, bunkers, fairways and tee boxes.

The scenery is great (I seem to say that a lot about any Oregon golf course I play) and the pace was terrific. I was told by a Bandon Dunes caddie that this was a great course and one they play often, and now I know why. Take a break from the highway, or a half-day off Bandon Dunes courses and play Crossings. 9+/10.

Played Bandon Crossings on Friday August 30th. First time for me playing in Oregon anywhere so I was awe struck at the greenery of the course and the mature pines that were ever present throughout the course.
What a great course, with terrific customer service. Practice areas are top notch, well marked and in great shape.
Fairways are lush and green, well defined and more than amble to receive a good tee shot. Some are quite wide maybe 65 yards, others are average in width with level to slightly left or right leans that do influence ball position.
Rough here is outstanding, again green and lush with a 3-5 inch depth. Hopefully your drives do not stray to far fro the short grass or you will find yourself in some big trouble, with advancing the ball down the fairway your primary concern.
Bunkers here range from average size and depth to gaping monsters that are deep and difficult to recover from. Good depth in all bunkers with soft white sand that allows plenty of options for your recovery. Fairway bunkers here are not large, but well placed, green side bunkers here are what you need to watch for, do not short side your self as bogey or worse awaits you.
Tees are in great shape with little damage even on par (Threes). Playing from the Blue tees gives a good test of your ball striking skills and provides a very good and tricky challenge. I would highly recommend this course and State for Golfing if not for the lush conditions than for the natural beauty of the course and surrounding terrain.

I played late afternoon Friday, after 18 holes at Bandon Dunes. I played here because it is cheaper and I needed to ride after the beating I took in my first round. I wanted to play 18 holes, but the sky was black and threatening. The starter told me they have a nine hole option where you play holes 1-5, then 15-18. I'm glad I did, because as soon as I hit the second hole, I started seeing lightening bolts above the not too distant hills. As I rushed around the course, I saw a well-conditioned, traditional layout with very good greens. I joined up with a couple local characters on 17, and as we finished 18 it started pouring down rain. I think this course is a great option if you play at the resort, and don't feel up to walking another 18.

Finally got to play Crossings today. Always heard good things, but timing never worked out to play there on previous trips to the region. My brother and I played here with a 10:50 tee time. Price was $79 with a cart, it was a slight online booking discount that also included a bag of range balls, but the pro shop guy let us trade that for a yardage book. He was very helpful and friendly overall. The place wasn't very crowded at all, so we played at our own pace. We played through one slow threesome and got to witness a guy in the group behind us ace #17, which was cool.

The course is in excellent shape all around, more green than Bandon Dunes because of different types of grasses they use. The greens are quick and silky smooth like some of the ones I encountered earlier on this trip. The fairways and rough areas are lush and I was loving the nice fluffy lies all day. Long fescue on outer edges of holes is obviously to be avoided because you will likely lose your ball. Bunkers filled with super soft beach sand like you'll find at BD. I always struggle with that kind of sand and today was no different in the couple bunkers I found.

This is a really enjoyable layout and definitely reminiscent of Bandon Trails the way it goes into the woods and uses all the natural hills and landscape to create a lot of interesting hole designs with some links touches. A more casual vibe here than Bandon Dunes, as well, which is kind of refreshing and more appealing to locals. The prices seem a bit high, but compared to the resort it's a good deal and the great conditions warrant a worthy price. Definitely worth visiting when you make your pilgrimage to Bandon!
