Joined a friend for a late afternoon round after his work. Sunny skies but a nice cool breeze and plenty of water kept things under control. They just aerated M/T so I was hesitant to play but the greens were done very nicely and the sand had all been removed. So they were not as bad as I had expected. Tee boxes all playable. Fairways had good coverage and decent roll out. Not in any bunkers but those who were had no complaints. Very little rough to deal with. Fast easy check in and got done in 3.5 surprising hours. If you want healed greens, I would wait another week to 10 days (IMO) for that to be the case. Restaurant open and nice outside patio for food/drinks after the round.

Played a Friday twilight round at Alhambra with Mattias and found the course to be in pre-maintenance form with a few areas of disrepair ahead of this week's fix. They always generally take excellent care of this little short-course gem, but it looks like they left it a little frayed around the edges the final weekend before all the work being done starting today.

The check-in was very generous by giving us a discounted rate for some reason but that's always appreciated. We both walked and played from the blue tees. As previously mentioned, this is a very short course with a number of reachable par 4s so low scores are definitely in your wheelhouse.

As for the conditions, a few areas of neglect in terms of GUR sections and some rough edges around the greens, but mainly it was quite poor tee boxes that stood out. Again, with major course maintenance coming up this week, it's understandable. The greens still putted at medium speed and were in decent to goo shape, while the fairways were 65-75% green and lush, but some thin areas also. Bunkers were in need of some more sand but not awful.

POP was pretty good throughout the afternoon so no complaints there. Of course I would wait now a few weeks after the aeration dates of 9/27-28 before stopping by again, but after those few weeks I'm sure that Alhambra will go right back to doing the great job they always do looking after their fun little facility.

Played this AM on a wet/soggy course. Lots of water due to current heat. Early AM it is wet, damp and soggy. In the low lying areas of the course you will find standing water as well. The dampness left the traps not very playable. No roll in the fairways though the fairways have good coverage and decent lies for the most part. Tee boxes were OK as they have moved them around letting the beat up areas grow in so we had no issues. Rough was 1/2 to 1 inch and sticky outside of the fairways and around the greens. Greens were all in good shape and chipped/putted with medium speed. I liked seeing the marshal out using his divot repair device while we were playing and it showed when you were on the greens (nice touch). Restaurant is now open and today it opened at 6 AM with a full menu. Each day has different hours and either full or slimmed down menu (more info on the updated website). Customer service excellent at all levels. Sad to see one of the employees (Mathew) leave but the ladies in the shop have taken over with gusto.

Played today. First off, the restaurant is now open. Still great food and prices. Course is in good shape after all the recent heat. Tee boxes need repairs on some (especially # 7). Fairways had good coverage and decent roll but some have some wet areas from over watering. Bunkers were playable but IMO need more work. Rough was about 1/2 to 1 inch in areas and playable. Greens were not cut too short due to prevailing heat so they putted slow but were clean and playable. Customer service excellent at all levels.

Struggling with my game lately, so I thought maybe playing a more "friendly" course might help the confidence. Good idea, but only if you execute the shots. Even a short course is a challenge if you can't perform. Still enjoy playing this course because there are just a bunch of fun little holes.

Course conditions are consistent with Larry's recent review. Greens roll well, and are reasonably receptive. The couple bunkers I found were a bit thin, but playable. Fairways have OK coverage, but some areas need attention. Overall I was impressed with the course condition. As always the staff here is very friendly and accommodating. Despite the mediocre ball striking, enjoyed the course.

We played this AM as first off. 3 H POP to beat the heat (no back 9 players to worry about). Course is heavily watered to prepare for the heat. Does dry out as you approach back 9 except in some of the low lying areas. So some areas are still wet early AM and negates any roll in fairways. Tee boxes all fine as they have moved the markers around to avoid too much damage. Bunkers playable and with rakes. Rough very little at this time. Greens are in very nice shape and no noticeable divot residual (they are very clean). Great customer service at all levels. Check in at pro shop. Masks inside/not outside. Restaurant is still not open. And no service early until after 8 AM. Good value and good conditioned course.

Played early this AM. Nice POP of 2.5 H walking. Course is very wet in many areas. A lot of water being put on the course due to advancing high temps. So while the fairways were in nice shape and had great lies, the roll out was minimal. Traps were being cleaned as we played and heard no complaints (rakes are out on all of them). Tee boxes are in much better shape since last time as they have moved the markers around on all of them, so no issues. Rough was minimal and very playable. Greens had all been mowed and chipped/putted great with good speed. Devoid of any residual divots which was a nice touch. Excellent customer service at all levels. Check in at pro shop. Range and putting green open. Masks in shop only. Was told they hope to open the restaurant in 2 weeks if plans go accordingly. Excellent course to walk and extremely reasonable for Sr golfers.

Out again this Sunday. Found all the fairways in good shape (# 1 still GUR at the front end of the tee box but not an issue). Most of the tee boxes were all fine, but a few need reseeding and movement of markers. Traps were all cleaned as we were playing (in 1) so we encountered no issues and rakes available. Rough is hit/miss as some areas are playable and others are not, so try and stay in the fairways. Greens had all been mowed and chipped/putted very nicely and with good speed. Totally devoid of divot damage (nice touch). Excellent customer check in at pro shop. Range open. Putting green open. Masks required in pro shop. Restaurant has still not opened as planned. Maybe due to recent LA county virus requirements? But they do have take out service. And a very nice outdoor patio area. Great course to walk. Great senior prices on weekends. Now managed by Troon and totally improved from prior management.
