Played 10/29/08. Course is in excellent condition. 4.5 hour round starting at 8:30am. Very fair course layout if you are hitting relatively straight. Lots of beautiful trees. Good course to walk - mostly flat with occassional minor slopes.

For a course that gets a ton of play..the conditions are great.....unfortunately it was a 5 hour round...due to slow players in front of us...go play....anyway...worth the green fee.

Played 9/26 am. Greens are not quite healed yet. Small holes are still visible and slightly affect the roll. However, they were cut very tight and were pretty smooth even with the holes. Seven more days and they will be perfect.

This is a good municipal course with a more traditional layout. No real bells and whistles, but some really good dog legs and big trees lining the fairways. Not long. Overall condition was very good for a muni.

Played 9/5 and the course was in great condition. The only problem was the slow play on the first five holes. No marshal in sight --- play would be faster if players would waive up the following group on the par 3 number 5. The pace picked up starting at number 6 with only a slow down on the par 3 12th hole (which is conveniently near the snack shop).

Got out at about 12:15pm on 8/31and it was a beautiful day for golf in Long Beach. It took our group almost over 5 1/2 hrs to complete the round. We waited at every tee and every fairway and boy was it a test of patience.

Overall, the course was in good shape. Tee boxes, however, were in very bad condition as most had severe divot damage. Fairways had a few brown spots but very playable. The greens were in the best shape as all puts rolled very true but I found them to be a little slow.

I thought the course was in as nice condition as I've seen it in the 30+ years I've played this course. The greens were particularly good, and given the amount of play this course gets, that is quite a compliment. I have always enjoyed this course, a fun track, not very penal, kind of like a "walk in the park". My only complaint is that it takes sooooo long to play, over 5 hours!

Course in good shape for the amount of play it gets. Rough is tuff because of tournaments within city taking placce. Offers golfer a good challange as greens are readable and usually run very steady.

Overall the course is not in bad shape considering that the greens wered aerated a few weeks ago. Half the greens are aerated and the other half was in good shape. Worst thing today was the pace of play...started over 30 min. after our tee time and then it took 5hrs and 45 mins to play 18holes.

half of all the greens are aerated..but not where the pin is located...so that helps .....greens are fast..and doesn't screw up the whole course with all of the greens aerated...wish most of the courses would do that...1/2 at a time..makes sense..go play...

Rec Park always has the best greens in the area. There was no exception here. Played Saturday twilight and finished 9 holes before sundown. Those holes I played though I was not disappointed in the course -- my play perhaps but not the course. Greens were a little bumpy but ran relatively true. Fairways were in decent shape. Traps/bunkers were well stocked and easy to hit out of -- almost soft as my shots were buried. Pace of play ok for twilight. Front 9 finished in 2 hours. Could have been faster if group ahead quit earlier.

Played Big Rec last Sunday 3/23/08. Well... the greens were the best I had ever seen at Big Rec. Rolled fast but true. Fairways were in good shape as well. Play is still a bit slow on the weekends, but I love to play here.

Also, while waiting to tee off on #3 we witnessed an ace on #5 it was the downhill step up. Great shot and a nice roll.........

Considering all of the rain recently, the course was in decent shape. Teed off about 15 minutes late, finished last 2 holes in the dark, which was actually kind of fun (everyone had to find each others ball). Pace of play was ok after the first 3 holes, around hole 8, the rains came, boy was that fun! Wish i had a Long Beach residents card to save $15 on the green fees

Played on President's day - tee time ran about 20 minutes behind. Pace of play was decent after a short wait on #3 and the par 3 #5. Greens rolled fast and true - the best I have seen the greens at Big Rec for many years. While not the best nor most expensive, Big Rec is always enjoyable to play.

I teed off at 9:30 today (Monday). I played Rec Park, because it rained steadily yesterday and Rec Park seems to drain pretty well (especially the greens). The greens were great, they rolled fine and were only a little slower than usual, which actually makes them easier to putt. The pace of play was great for mid-morning, about 4 hours and 15 minutes. I always have a good time at Rec Park. It has a comfortable mix of easier and harder holes. Play early or expect a 5+ hour round.

First the good: Greens were excellent! smooth and fairly quick, although too firm for my taste. fairways decent, the traps were consistant, well raked, but almost zero sand, making it very tough to "flop it". The bad: when I checked in I asked the guy behind the desk how far behind they were running and was told, "pretty close, maybe 5 min" When it was out tee time I went back in because I still had not heard my named called and was told I was the 5th group AFTER the group on the tee! I questioned how in 20 min they would go from 5 min to over half hour behind? Of course his answer was predictable .... "I can't know exactly how far behind". (Yes you can, just fugure it out!) At any rate, finished in the dark with an 11 o'clock tee time. Welcome to public golf!

Overall the course was in pretty good shape. Fairways were good and the greens were rolling pretty fast but receptive to approach shots. Teed off at 8am and finished at 1pm. I guess five hour rounds are to be expected when you have fivesomes. For the money, this is one of the better courses in the area.

Long Beach Marathon on Sunday, but does the starter warn us ahead of time about how near impossible it was to get to the course.... in a word.... NO! Had 1:22 tee time. Barely made it even with road blocks and closed off streets. I even got past a non-existent barrier LOL and entered the track -- by accident. Now for course info. Greens are getting better. Really bumpy but FAST. I mean the balls will just roll. They are not as firm as you would think and you can stop a ball but be advised it will run with the right trajectory (low hit balls). Fairways in good shape. They are areating the tee boxes so expect some bare spots. They should rotate the tee spots better IMHO. Sand is OK just hard packed. Slow day considering the twosome we were supposed to play with doesn't like 5-somes LOL. In fact the twosome has just finished hitting when we arrived. He said 4-some and Swing18 said no 5-some in which case the twosome just walked off and played the hole leaving us (a 3-some) to play behind them. We of course were on their tail the whole day. LOL. Silly golfers who think that playing a public course entitiles you to private course priveledges. Oh well... nice SLOW day either way so why bother to complain?

Challenging from the back tees; greens pretty subtle, in decent shape; lovely layout over rolling hills, plenty of shade trees; biggest complaint was slow play. Will definitely play again and again--good value for a busy city course

Good public golf course - not too long or not too short. Many up and down slopes. No major hazards - you don't have to worry too much water or sand traps. Golf cart equipped with GPS. Got nice practice green and chipping area.

Great course. Played around 2 p.m. walked on with a 2some and was 3rd up. Fairways are in pretty good shape. Tee boxes are also in good shape concidering maybe a few with alot of divit sand mix on. greens are excellent and rolling just perfect, not too fast or slow. Only thing was that it took 5 hours to finish which was brutal!

If you've played Big Rec you know it doesn't change much and if you haven't, the previous postings are accurate. WARNING: don't book an afternoon time at Rec Park on the last Thursday of the month. There's a regular LB Seniors group and they are very slow ... no disrepect, I'll be there someday. But I counted 20 people waiting on the second tee (no kidding) and played the front in over 3 hours ... brutal, dude!

Well this course is in fine shape. Greens roll quick and true. Beware as a little goes a long way. Fairways are nice a manicured. Rough is sticky and can play a factor with approach shot. Get stuck in the rough and expect the worse, that is if you can find your ball -- it's so thick. Bunkers are in good shape. A little hard but still better to hit out of than that fluffy sand. Tee Boxes are well rotated. Play was fast for twilight.

Played Saturday morning, 6/23/2007, in a tournament. Day began cool and breezy but sun broke through around noon, and the wind was never overpowering. Course was in very good condition throughout. Greens looked good, were fairly lush and receptive, and rolled well, especially quick downhill. No cart girl. Pace was very good for a muni on a Saturday – we finished in less than 5 hours. Recommended for conditioning and greens.

played 6/4 @ 10:30am. course was in pretty good shape, especially for how many rounds are played here. the greens were the best part of the course. they were pretty fast, especially above the hole. there are some tricky greens on this track, and some of them are kind of small. if this course was in great shape, i think it would really be a pleasure. the course is designed very well. the course designer did really well with the land he was given. the rough and bunkers were in pretty good shape. the only thing that was unfortunate was the uneven tee boxes and the sparse fairway grass. this is a fun track and is a great bargain for under $30.

Course is getting into pretty good shape for LB Open. Greens were rolling fairly true aside from the fact I found out my putter's grip was off so putting was a MAJOR problem. Thanks for pointing that out Glen LOL. Dammit! Played twighlight rates. New faces at front desk. Not too efficient if you ask me. They spent a good portion of their time joking with some of their buddies on the tee box. Rather vexing to hear them breathing heavily over the PA system. I guess it's all good fun and I have no sense of humor. Coure in suprising good shape except for sand. Greens roll true but a little bumpy. Fairways were nice and green/yellowish but hey summer is coming. Rough is thick and STICKY. Sand traps however felt like I was hitting out of concrete. First 9 played relatively fast. Took off after 9 but buddies carried on. Figured that had enough light for another 9 holes. (3 hrs - 9 holes.)

Well, played Rec Park yesterday and the greens were as good as I've seen them, which is FAST, FAST, and FAST, and rolling as true as any green I've played on. I palyed with Mr. Ringworld, well actuallyhe played in the group ahead with one of my sons and a couple buddies, so he can atest to it. Rec in my opinion has the best greens of any Muni or even a bunch of hig end courses I've played.

Rec park is in prime shape for LB Open. Greens are PERFECT except for knuckleheads that refuse to repair their divots. You fools know who you are. Kindly repair your business and begone. I missed three puts to save par only to have my ball roll into a ball mark that I didn't see or have it hit some spot that I did not expect it to do what it did. I personally fixed minimum of 2 divots per hole. Also greenskeeper get a handle on the broken tees the boxes are littered with them. OK Ranting aside, greens are near perfect (retraction from earlier comment). Fairways are getting fairly lush. Rough is sticky stay out of it. Sand is improved and can get better with a little filling. Played in under 4 hours for weekday. Not bad.

Ah Rec Park, it's like a walk in the park. Always love playing here, just wish it didn't always take 5 hours. The greens were the best I've ever seen them and I suspect in a few they'll be even better. In fact the entire course was in nice condition. (Rememebr this is not Pelican or Trump National, so for $27 and public, this place is in terrific shape. Too bad Skylinks greens can't be as playable???

Hadn't play Big Rec in a few years. Course is in good condition. Greens were in good shape, and recovered nicely from aeration. Lots of grain on the greens. Downhill puts were lightning fast, and uphill puts really slow. Tee boxes, fairways, and rough were all in decent condition. Sand traps were packed, but that may have been becuase they were wet. My only complaint, if I had to give one, was the playing time. The front nine took a painful 3 hours to complete. We were waiting on every hole. Luckily, the back nine was faster, so we ended up finishing in 5.5 hours. Overall, had a great time, and enjoyed the course.

always enjoy the layout of this course. Greens just got aerated. wait about three to four weeks for the greens to recover. Got lucky today, played in 3 and half hours. Played in the morning before a Mens Club event today. Greens were in very good shape for a muni. It's too bad they are aerifying next week. The greens weren't bumpy like previous comments suggested, although I played early before all those rounds (I've heard they get 350 rounds per day...that's got to be one of the busiest courses in the area!)

Note: Top of driving range was closed due to a leaning pole, some damage from the recent winds.

Played Twightlight with LBC resident card. Word to the wise they are using the bar code on the ID so its one discount per card. Played only 9 holes but the course was in good shape. Greens were BUMPY. They had done some aeration and you can see the lines marking the greens. Greens however ran faster than they looked. Fairways were lush -- thanks to the recent rains. Tee boxes had some issue with levelness but not a major concern. Sand in bunkers (and I hit more than my fair share) were good. Pace of play was OK. Not spectacular. Recommend holding off coming for around a week when the greens have sufficiently healed. Greens though looked rather good just have to deal with the bumpiness.

Played this course for the first time. The course was in decent shape, there is still some dryness in the fairways, but it's starting to green up. The tee boxes were fairly level, but had some dry spots, could tell they had been aerated and seeded earlier. The fairways rolled real good (275 yds on a downhill hole, I'll take that), but had some dryness. The greens were in good condition with very little ball mark damage, they rolled med fast, except on downhill putts. some of them the shots hit and kept on going. We had a 6:30 start time, 3some, got out at 6:20 as a 5some. As previous posts have said, lots of 5ers. But we finished in just over 4 hrs (could have been under but other 2some took long time over the putts). They were regulars there. All in all a good experience, will come back. $36 w/cart and 2ball sleeve of Top Flite D2's (coupon deal), not bad.

Considering we are having some of the coldest days of Spring, the greens are perhaps the best I have seen in a while. Greens rolled pretty true. They were fast perhaps dry from the cold dry wind blowing through LBC lately. Not a lot of balls would check on the green; more like roll off. Fairways were dormant. Pretty burned out and hard so you could get loads of carry. Sand traps were hard pan. Not a lot of sand before you hit the bottom of the trap. Round would have played faster (we were essentially a walking fivesome) if the riding foursome with walking single would have picked up the pace. We were essentially breathing down their necks the entire round. Not that I am complaining but a 5 1/2 hour round was stretching it and it was getting cold :P

Don't bother playing this course right now....it's in terrible shape.
fairways had lot's of dead spots, the rough also had lots of bare and dead spots. the greens were in good shape but that's about it. On a previous review someone wrote that they lazer-leveled the tee boxes...well they aren't that great and the grass has not yet grown back fully. I'm gonna give it a few month's then try this place again because it's usually in pretty good shape.

Played twighlight before the rain yesterday. Course in realtively good shape. Tee boxes were flat. Fairways were green and not burned out. Greens however were hard and looked funny. Although the ball ran well it seemed as if folks didnt' fix their divots because there were odd discolorations on the greens. Sand in bunkers were hard but what do you expect when the rain and wind harden up most playing surfaces. No need to be agreesive with approach shots. You can bump and run for better effect.

Played Thursday last week. Greens are in perhaps the best shape I have seen since last year. Fairways are a bit burned out due to winter but good coverage if you like brown or off green grass. Tee boxes were just laser flattened whatever that means and were relatively flat. Greens were very Fast due to winter dryness and sun's heat. Very few balls were able to check many ran off green. Sand Traps few had good sand others did not so I would caution those tricksters to rake their messes!

One of my favorite local course. Greens in particularly good shape. Rolling a bit faster than normal so expect balls to release well and/kick more than expected. Fairways in good shape. Bunkers OK but dealable. They are trimming trees so some blind shots are no longer blind. Paticularly around hole 10. Was only able to complete 14 out of 18 holes for twilight.

Played for the first (and maybe last) recently. It's definitely a muni. Bring a helmet, the holes are on top of each other. The course wasn't even that busy and I was dodging balls left and right. Conditions were good, greens were nice. Not much of a layout but there are some good holes. It's hard to complain for the price ($10 for twilight) but you do get what you pay for and not much more. If you like muni golf, play San Clemente some time. The conditions aren't any better than Recreation but the layout and the overall golf experience is much better.

It's my local course. Gets a lot of play but for some reason on this Sunday afternoon I suppose the sun/moon/stars were all aligned b/c this course played like a champ! I mean the greens rolled true. They played firm but with a properly hit ball you could stick it just as well as run it up. Folks actually fixed their divots. The fairways were in tip top shape. A little soft in some areas but for the most part they were in areas you have no business being. Today they played the blues from the tips and it was fun especially with the wind picking up in the PM. I would STRONGLY SUGGEST staying away so I can enjoy this course. If not well you will be very happy with the course. Rough was thick and busy around greens. Sand in bunkers was nice and soft -- great for touch shots out of trouble. Oh btw course played reasonably fast after front 9 antics. This twosome (two girls) went off-roading on the second hole by running over the second hole green with their golf cart. None too clever and very slow but once they left play did pick up considerably. Enjoy!

Boy I do hate slow play and today was the reason I stopped going to Rancho in the first play. SLOW round. 5+ hours. It was painful to say the least and the amount of play on the course really has these greens in torn up shape. I mean it's pitted. And although they do fix their divots the greens look like the moon with fixed craters everywhere. Fairways look burnt in spots but very green for the most part. They move around the tee boxes and some of the tees were not level but dealable. Bunkers are nice and well filled. Back to the group so bloody slow. What gives them the right to literally wait for the group ahead of them to be on the green before they start to hit. They played a version of conference golf where both carts had to be present whilst one hit. The only time they got a clue to speed play was when the sun set over the hills and it was literally getting darker by the second.

Played 9 today super twighlight. BOY DO I LOVE SUMMER! What does that mean for us golfers? More light so that even teeing off after 6:30 can get you in 9 holes before sunset. Course played fast even with folks skipping holes and jumping in front of us. No worries. Greens in as good as shape as I have seen (remembering last year about this time.) They run true but are soft accept high shots and stick and especially fast enough to run balls off greens. Tee boxes flat for muni and in good shape. Rough was cut recently so you can say the 5 inch rough is gone is most obvious places. Fairways are lush. What can I say it's Long Beach baby and the golfing's great!

Course is in great shape. I really enjoyed the layout (especially the back 9), but the pace of play was brutal. 5.5 hours on a Wednesday afternoon saps the fun out of the game.

Course was OK... Greens have been punched and sanded. Some greens were sanded lightly and some were heavy, very inconsistant. When I called about course condition, I was told that the course was in good shape but no mention about the greens being punched and sanded. If I would have known I would have made a tee time at another course.

this course was a very nice play on superbowl sunday. it was in nice condition from tee to green, and the pace of play was exceptable,
this course was laid out by the same designer who did debell in burbank and you can see the similarities. if you liked one you should try the other. mopar13

Played in a tournament on Saturday morning, December 3rd. Course had a rep for being in good shape for a muni, and wasn't disappointed. Very good greens, smallish, quick, some very slopy - don't be above the hole. Overall course condition very good, and play moved along pretty well for the type of venue. I managed to stay out of the bunkers, so can't verify conditions there. Cart girl almost ubiquitous, she came by so frequently. Several long par 4s, so you must drive the ball well. Recommended for conditioning and the great Long Beach weather.

Whole new crew running show on Sunday. Not very bright when you stack the groups 4 deep and no one knows which groups is going out and they keep calling the wrong group on the tee box. Really slow day on Sunday. Tried to get as many holes in but to no avail. Course was crowed like there was no tomorrow. Where did all of these weekend warriors come from? At any rate greens are the best I have seen in a VERY LONG TIME. Slick a little bumpy but overall well maintained considering the amount of play the course gets. Was only able to finish 15 holes before it was too dark to continue to play. Still if we only had a little more time.

I love golf in Long Beach. 6 courses within 20 minutes drive and El Dorado is no exception! Great shape in my honest opinion. Greens have come back to some of the truest rolling greens I have seen in a long while. For a public course your ball will roll true enough with a few bounces but hey for the money you deal with the slight pitfalls. Fairways in great shape, some standing water and mud, I think they are trying to winterize the course and promote some additional root growth, that and the recent rains make for some sections to be soggy. Most of these sections are not in the range of play just alongside certain holes and transitions. Aside from that it's still Long Beach's premiere course. Great value but do expect some slow play. Case in point, we were playing behind a 3-some and were on their tail as a 5-some the whole bloody round except at the turn where I think they decided to bail.

This is my home course -- I've played 300+ rounds here. Last played 9/27, two weeks after aeration. In a week, the greens will be nearly perfect, if you play in the morning, because the poa annua buds as the day goes on, and they get bumpy.
I was in the 6th group, and the round took 3:50, which is a good pace. There are some burned out places in the fairway, but overall, the course is in good shape. Teeboxes are not uniformly level, and Rec gets so much play, that they need to re-sod teeboxes regularly.
The breakfast burrito is worth the price, for breakfast or lunch.

played at 7 am on a saturday 4 days after aeration. The course overall is very nice. it is not long, but, it moves around nicely.lots of elevation changes and doglegs in both directions. With the greens just punched, but smooth, the pace of play was unbeleivable. On a 5somes course we finished in 3 hours 55 minutes!!! While i know the pace of play was due to a number of circumstances, it was so good I will go back just to prove to myself it was a fluke. (and I don't mean a tester)

This course is fun...super fast greens. However, fairways + tee boxes + sand were not so great. We played on a special that included lunch and a cart for $35. This made it worthy, but it is not a 7.0 plus, more like a 5.0 plus. This is an "American Golf" course, but the fairways are not...I REPEAT very fast greens, spend at least a half hour on the putting green, or you will be putting thru the break.

Course was in very nice shape! Greens were smooth and fairly quick. Fairways also in above average condition. Incredibly able to tee off a few minutes BEFORE our tee time and played in just over four hours, which for Rec Park is fabulous! Playing Rec is like a "walk in the park" - not too tough but enough of a test to make it enjoyable.

Some of the par 4's are too short for long hitters (300 yards). The rough was inconsistent, from thin to at times 6 inches. The sand traps are very good but with the recent heat everything is getting watered, even the traps and some are wet just under the surface and inconsistent. The greens are in great shape, very smooth and very consistent which is always a tough thing for public courses.

Every round at Rec is an absolute treat. The course has so much character, and it is always in excellent shape. There is no other course at these prices in Southern California that is better. By far the top course in Long Beach, especially given the fact that the new Skylinks seems to be having so much trouble with the sprinkler system and the greens.

We played twice in the past 2 weeks, and each round was less than 4 1/2 hours (isn't it sad that this has become a "good" time...what is wrong with golfers recently... hit the d%mn ed ball when it's your turn to play, and stop plumb-bobbing in 4 directions).

Also, the food at Rec is excellent, and the prices are extremely reasonable. Usually the restaurnant has far more non-players eating than players.

For the second time I booked a tee time via the golf626 website on the 18 hole course and they had no record when I showed up. Compounding the problem today was that there was a tournament at that time and I had to wait over an hour before getting on. The round itself was a disaster - because of the tournanment the pace was awful. I finally picked up after hole 9 after 3 hours, 20 minutes - and this was a Wednesday afternoon. The course itself was mediocre - greens were very, very bumpy. Tee boxes had many divots. Fairways were nice in places, bare in others. Between the incompetance in the proshop, the awful pace and the mediocre conditions, this is not worth a return visit.

Course is in great shape overall. Need work on greens which are a little bumpy. Would be nice if they would FIX THEIR DIVOTS. I get the feeling that there are a lot of foolish folks that think divots mysteriously repair themselves. Well for the misinformed THAT IS AN OLD WIVES' TALE. FIX YOUR BLOODY DIVOTS. Overall course in uncommon good shape. Rough will be tough to hit out of in a matter of weeks. Greens roll relatively true if not for said defect above. Rough is sticky and only crisp shots will give you any headway. Fairways are in great shape as are tee boxes. Only problem I had were with greens but what do you expect from a popular public course?

Sunday Golf what can you expect. Greens were very slow with varying speed from fast to slow depending upon what part of the swail you're on. Not very receptive either for approach shots. Best is to run it up from off the fringe to the green. Fairways lush with the occasional deep divot. Tee Boxes were relatively flat but could use some work.

course favors fade or controlled slice. Not too much trouble overall. Keep ball in play for low scores. Some trouble in trees with bare spots but still salvageable for pars or bogeys. Rough growing thicker and fairways in as good as shape this time of year. Greens still growing from airation few weeks back but not as bumpy as before. Back 9 was smooth.

A great course to challange your long game. Several long Par 4 holes. And the grass around the greens doesn't always allow the ball to run onto the green. Lot's of elevation changes and after holes 1 & 2 some very interesting shots await.

Played Rancho Park on Sunday Feb 23. This was after the never ending rain from the weeks before. I was suprised the course was dry as it was but nice course for what it went through with the rains. But this was the longest 18 holes of my life. Ever stereo type for koreans are true. I can attest because I am Korean. I had a group of koreans in front of my group and behind. The group behind us hitting into us because we were slow the group in front were putting for 15-20 mins. The worst ever. I am suprise I broke a 100 with the slow play. besides the horrible delay(s) the course was in great condition. Had lost of wind but it made the course fun. No casual water in site and greens were rolling a lot better than normal. Ruff was quite deep but very lush. I would say it it weren't for my "fellow" Asians this round would have been better. Can you believe it, a SIX hour round! Tee time was 12:12pm got off the green on the 18th at exactly 6:13pm. Crazy.

I recently did a critique of Skylinks Golf Course. I was wrong. I now think Skylinks is a slightly better course than Rec. Park. The greens at Rec. Park are very nice, but they don't have the character like the ones at Skylinks. I like the rolling terrain and the setting for golf at Rec. Park. The fairways are chopped up a bit but I'm sure they will get better once the rain stops and the spring season arrives. An easy course like this should never take more than 4.5 hours! but........oh well

Played 12-16. Greens are unbelievable. Very fast, very smooth, a little firm. Rest of the course, okay. Fairways and tee boxes were a little thin, sand traps very fluffy, though I was only in one on 18, but my hat did get blown into another one. Got on very quickly as a single, and round went quickly, 4.5 hours.

Quickest round I have ever played here. I guess everyone must be checking out the new Skylinks (sister course). For this time of the year .....best greens I have played in Oct/ Nov. since almost everyone is aerating. Greens rolled true! Fairways and rough in good shape, however the tee boxes are aerated and sandy.....did not affect my slices though! Only problem I was always shaking the sand out of my shoes. Well worth the time and $. Overall the Long Beach Courses are always in pretty darn good shape....even though they have raised all their fees.

Played saturday afternoon for the first time.Being municipal course condition is surprisingly good maintained. Lush fairway, good rolling greens, but surrounding grass of greens are very tough that makes you difficult to good approach. Pace of play of front nine was critical, #3 tee box had 3 groups waiting for tee shot but back nine were getting much better. Just talking about condition of golf course is the best municipal course.

Men's Club tournament Sun. Rough was still pretty long, making it tough to slug your way out. Fairways & greens looked more brownish and drier than earlier this year. Good rolls on drives in the fairways. Altho the slope rating is too low @ 111, always more of a challenge than other courses with much higher slope. Played here many times and each occasion find it's still interesting.

Played 7/25, and similar experience to last post - never seen the fairways framed by the rough like this before, but obviously thats because of the LB open. It was fun to play it like that, albeit a chore to find your ball when it found its way into the cabbage. Greens were nice, quick and smooth. It'd be nice if they can stay that way.

We played behind the final match of Long Beach city match play so you can imagine how quick the greens were. They rolled true and with alot of subtle break. Not a hard course to get up and down since the ball sits well in the rough. And by the way, the saying "if ya can't beat 'em, join 'em" rings true so I teamed up with 1scgolfer and won the match on 17. Sweet victory! My favorite Long Beach course.

The course and greens are in great shape. Course played a little slower than normal, 5 1/2 hours. Just thankful that the pace picked up after #7, otherwise it would have been a 6+ hour round.
I highly recommend a hot dog or hamburger after #7...always tasty....but watch out for the birds.

Course is playing great. Greens are in great shape, and are fast. PLAYERS NEED TO REPAIR DIVOT MARKS - but I guess that's gonna happen at a muni course - hacks not repairing divots.

Played 5-2. Course is in great shape. Greens are the fastest I have ever seen. Very smooth. Fairways were in good shape also. Only complaint are the tee boxes, at least where the blues were set on Sunday. Very thin, and lots of dirt. But overall the course is great, and played in just under 5 hours, on a Sunday at 10:00, not complaining.

I really enjoy this course. I usually play on the weekdays here and pace of play isn't too bad. I like the fact there are a few holes that are long and a few "make-up" holes that are short allowing you to make up for some bad holes (if you have them). When I last played, greens were very firm and pretty fast. Fairways could use some work and tee boxes tended to be on the poor side.

Definitely worth the $$ and an enjoyable layout.

At $23 on the weekend it is the best deal anywhere. The fairways and greens were great and the rough is very thick. Only negative was the starter. They switched the nines and while waiting on the first tee because there was no sign in the pro shop and that the starter said nothing about playing the 10th first , I asked the starter and got an attitude in response. I guess he had a bad day? To bad.

BUT I WILL TELL YOU IT SLOWS DOWN AND ALMOST GOES BACKWARDS? GREENS WERE THE BEST IN LONG BEACH TODAY, BUT THEY WILL BE WORKING ON THE GREENS TUESDAY MARCH 23RD, HOLES AND SAND!!! THE FAIRWAYS WERE GOOD AND SO WAS THE SAND. GREENS WILL BE ROLLING BY END OF APRIL AGAIN. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU ALL.

Recreation Park is Recreation Park. You know what to expect before you even arrive. 5 hour+ rounds, but a wonderful "walk in the park" The greens were excellent! The rest of the corse was "ok". While not the best of the Long Beach courses, still my personal favorite.

Played on 2/28, this course drains extremely well. There were absolutely no puddles at all. It was very slow for the first 4 holes. After it picked up. They should think about switching the 9's to speed things up. Due to the short first hole everyone waits because its reachable.

Course was in good shape and the ladies at the counter were extremely nice.

Greens are in nice shape, but is it just me, or have many of these greens over time become heavily slanted? Seems like some of these greens need to be built up in certain areas - there's a couple holes where there isn't a flat spot on the entire green - hole 11 to name one. Other than that, the course is in decent shape compared to other muni's around. Other issue I had yesterday was the apprx. 5 hr round despite the fact we were the 3rd group out. Its ok to be a poor player, but its unacceptable to be a poor slow player. Elodorado used to have a guy talk to players off the 1st tee giving pointers on how to increase pace of play - wish everyone would bring back that practice.

Slow pace at start, but picked up on back 9. Finished in less than 5 hours on a Sat. Very good, even w/ 5somes in most groups. Greens were treacherous, very fast, esp. when above the hole. Most tee boxes were badly torn up. Great value for a Sat. @ a busy muni.

Overall I was very disappointed in the condition of the course. The fairways were just too bare, and there was very little rough. One good point about the course was the greens were in very good shape. The pace of play was also very slow, especially on the front nine. We did manage to finish 18 holes after starting at around 12:20 PM, but only just barely. I think people try to increase their pace of play as it gets darker.

The $22 weekend (resident rate) is a good deal even considering the conditions

Considering how much play this course gets I cannot believe how great these greens are! The greenskeeper gets an A+ here. At this time of year the fairways and rough tend to be thin due to such cold mornings. By April it should be more lush again. Even though this course is soo crowded every day, it is still fun to play. It has very easy/birdie holes and holes where par is a good score.

I've played this course many times ,but I have never seen the greens as hard as they are. The fairways are pretty hard too. So stay in the fairways and hit short of the pins.

Played the course twice this past weekend. Greens are in great shape. The City Championships, and the Open are just around the corner so the course is playing nicely. I played my round in under 4:40 - that's with a 7:30 a.m. tee time. Anything after 9a.m. and you're looking at a 5:00 round easy.

Course is a good value. Greens are in nice condition, as is most of the course. Not a lot of trouble on this track. Much easier than nearby El Dorado. Good value. 5somes can make this course play particularly slow - if you play here, best to go out very early.

Course is in good condition. Greens were aerated last week so putting was a little rough. Fairways are fairly wide and only real hazards are the trees. Lots of 5somes but we still played in 4.5 hrs. Good course for the price.

IT'S BEEN AWHILE SINCE I'VE PLAYED THIS COURSE, SO I WAS VERY HAPPY TO SEE HOW NICE IT STILL IS. EVERYTHING ABOUT THE COURSE WAS GREAT. AS LONG AS YOU DON'T LET THE SLOW PLAY AFFECT YOUR GAME, THIS IS A COURSE TO TRY.

course is a long hitters dream. wide open fairways invite you to give it a rip but get in the trees and it will be a long day. course always plays slow 5 hours plus.

Short track, but a few interesting holes. Overall conditions were pretty good, but tee boxes are being worked on, so course play much shorter than normal. Greens were very nice...fast and held well-stuck shots. Wish more people would fix their pitch marks...was constantly fixing 4-5 extras besides my own. Pace of play was slow...expect 5 hours.
