Thursday, June, 2nd, was a great day at Coyote Hills.

The teeing grounds were ok and coming around.

The fairways are good. Some of the front fairways near the greens are still newly punched, but it does not make a whole lot of difference. It still played pretty good.

The greens were still slow for the most part, but I'm sure they are preparing to cut it low soon.

Some of the bunkers we were in at had shallow fluffed sand. . . it was hard pan just less than a 1/4 inch, although some were just fine.

Rating this course on an overall scale of 1-10, with 10 being the best, I can only give it a 7.5 on it's current conditions, but please don't go by my 7.5 in just less than a couple of weeks from now. I am almost sure that this course will be fantastic with its fairways and greens by then.

Played Sunday 02/13/11. Had a coupon for $69 on Sundays after 11am (since I'm on their emailing list). When I checked in, they told me that me and my three buddies were all set and that the round was on them. We had no idea how this happened or who hooked it up but we were thrilled to play for free (who wouldn't be). Greens were in great shape - very receptive and smooth (don't think there was a single bumpy putt all day). Tee boxes were in great shape. Fairways were dry - almost thatched. Now this provided for a ton of run off the tee but a hardpan for most approach shots - oh well...not that big of a deal. I played from the Black Tees (not the tips...those are the Gold Tees), only hit the driver one time on the front nine and only 3 times on the back nine. It's a very tight and narrow course off the tee with a most par 4's measuring between 325yds and 370yds...hence many hybrid and 5-wood tee shots. Personally I like hitting the big dog off the tee but at Coyote Hills, especially with the narrow landing areas, you don't get a chance to rip driver that often (if you hit an average drive of about 275). The greens were fantastic though - EXCELLENT!!! The course is a little to "Target Golf" centered for me. However, for a price of FREE, you can't beat it. If I had paid the planned $69 green fee, would I consider it worth it? Probably not. Only reason is because of course design...DEFINITELY WORTH PLAYING AT LEAST ONCE THOUGH (this happened to be my 2nd time).

Played Sunday 1/23/11 at 12:30 to get the twilight rate. Santa Ana winds were blowing so the first 4 holes were into a blustery wind. Both sides, but especially the front nine, have a lot of elevation change; course is not long yardage-wise (Black tees 6,000 yds), but restricted hitting areas and elevation changes, combined with wind, make club selection and crisp ball striking important. Many holes are lined with dense environmental scrub, making accuracy important. Many greens are constricted at the front opening with traps.

The greens were generally soft, and looked recently verticut; some had thin layer of sand on them in patches. This didn't seem to affect roll or line too much, though. However, some parts of some greens were receptive, and other nearby areas on the same green were overly firm and repelled balls. Fairways and rough were thin but lies were OK. Sand was medium fluffy and good in the several bunkers I visited! Good GPS, no yardage book. Ball washers are mostly at the white tees. Most greens had a lot of unrepaired ball marks.

Better signage is needed in several areas - there are a lot of winding cart paths and services roads on these hills, and scrub obscures views except right in front of your cart. I missed turns to tees, etc. three times because of lack of signage. Maybe because of the NFL playoffs, there were very few people on the course; the others scheduled for my tee time never showed, and I played as a single for the first 12 holes and finished in ~3 hours.

Got a Great Special $57 to play Coyote Hills today. Me and my golfing buddy were very excited to go play.. After coming home I was like Ehhhhh...... We were lucky to get that price because we didn't think it was very good. We really can't believe people pay the regular price they do for this course, when there are way better options out there. So here goes my schpeeeel of the course. We were the first tee time out so it was crisp out. It started with the tee boxes which looked like they were maturing from re sodding, the rough was very thick and then bare on spot's. The fairways were very soggy in spots and thin in spot's. The green's were rolling very nice. It just looked as if they took care of certain holes because some holes looked as if they did not belong to the people who were taking care of the rest of the course. The sand traps were very nice, a couple of them I noticed were watered. The only part I really did not like was cart path only because this course DOES NOT have distances on the course other than the line on the cart path. This course is very tight so if you are not accurate off the tee good luck!!! No Par 5's on the front!! We finished right under 4 hours, and were happy to be golfing.

Played 8/24/10. Course is in very good condition, with exception of rough on some holes, which still had aeration 'pellets' on top of grass. Otherwise, fairways are very nice, if you can hit them. Many narrow holes here, makes the course a good challenge, even at only 6000 yards. Greens were rolling nicely, smooth with minimal picth marks, except on a coupls of the short par 3's. Very good customer service, cart girl came by every 4 holes or so. Good deals when you opt in on the e-mail club. Always enjoy this course.

I played this course on Aug/21/2010, and the course is in a good shape. This course is absolutely challenging because of narrow fairways and the unique course layout. Some players may not like this course but I liked it!! In fact, the course layout made me feel that I was in the middle of wild hills. I couldn’t believe that they degisned such a lovely scenery course in the middle of city. I couldn’t feel that I was in the middle of city through the entire course. Although fairway was in a decent shape with a little more improvement required, tee boxes/bunkers were in a good shape, and the green was nearly in a perfect shape. The serivce was good.. I had to replace the cart twice because one was for the flat tire and the other was for the GPS problem. I requested the new cart through the GPS, and they reponsed it and replaced the cart within 10 minutes. I would like to go back and played it more times, but the green fee is expensive. Is worth it? I would say, “50:50”. However, this is absolutely one of the courses where you must go and play in SOCAL!!

Play for $29 special on July 4th. Tee boxes were in decent shape. Fairways were decent with many brown spots. Greens were lightning fast and tricky. This course is short, but super tight. Quite a bit of forced carries. Pace was play was great. 4.5 hours. They closed the snack shop at 5 pm...what the.....will come back..but not for more than $40.

Played for the first time on 05/30/10 from the tips for $49 teed off at 4pm. Course is very scenic with many elevated tees and great views from both LA and OC. I should have left my driver at home very narrow short course with OB or enviormental hazzards. Most tee shots only require a long iron off tee or a fairway wood off tee. Greens where probably rolling around 8. I played late in the afternoon so the cups did show some wear but they rolled well for late in the day. Fairways and bunkers are in good shape. Pace of play was good finished right under 4 hours. Carts have GPS and give info on holes.

Played today 5/17. This was my third time playing here, and the first time in at least 3 or 4 years. I was pleasantly surprised. There was a reasonable rate, the greens ran true, the bunkers were all playable, no complaints at all. I went out alone and finished in just over 2 hours. Played through just about everyone i came up on. The greens look to have been punched in the last 3 or 4 weeks. They ran nice and quick but you can still see where the punches were. The one thing that was kinda funny was on hole 4 my ball was in the fairway, but completely surrounded by sprinklers. I had to use some patience and timing to play the shot, and of course just after i putt out, I see the sprinklers turn off.
This course isn't overly difficult if you just keep the ball in play. Fairly short course, but still challenges you. If they made the greens real fast here, the course would have some fangs. But sign up for their email specials, i got out for a 59 dollar rate..
