Played 11/15 - $60.00 senior rate for 11.00 am tee time. First time playing and very pleasantly surprised by the challenge and layout of the course. There are far more altitude changes on this track than even those courses in the IE foothills. Played the black tees at just over 6000 yards but it feels like it plays much longer. Even the single digit handicappers I played with felt that way. Great views from the mountaintops not too badly spoiled by the abundance of oil derricks throughout the property. Houses that adjoin many of the fairways are unobtrusive. Practice facilities are good and the clubhouse excellent too.
Would play again for sure.

Played 9/3/12 at 7:30am. Pace was slow for this Labor day despite the group in front only being a threesome. Finished right around 12:30pm. Conditions were very good tee to green. Greens are soft and very receptive. Very few unrepaired/misrepaired ball marks. They were slow in the morning, but as it dries it turns to medium fast. Some greens are tricky to read. If it's important, check the back read. Fairways were good, albeit narrow and challenging. I noticed a couple swampy areas where drainage is an issue, but they were not in heavily travelled areas. Rough was thin at times and bumpy causing difficult lies. This is especially punishing if it's around the greens and you have a short chip. Tee boxes were some of the flattest over all that I've seen and they do a good job rotating. Only downside was the abundance, and I mean literally millions, of gnats. They swarm in groups of hundreds all over the course. Also, the heat made for a sweaty round, though the cart girl came around twice.

As far as playability, many times driver is not the best club to hit if you're not the straightest - wood or hybrid ends up being the club of choice off the tee. Fairways can be narrow and additionally there are usually fairway bunkers right in the danger zone of 250 yds. Lots of elevation changes can make you question your club choice and do a little math with yardage. Lots of trees protect the holes and make for a beautiful course, but good luck finding it if your ball goes in. Not much wind when I played.

Played today as a twosome 6:20am from Golfnow. For $59.00, this course is well worth it.
Everything from tee boxes to greens in above level shape. Not a long course by any means but you have to hit it relatively straight. Played from the black tees and still didn't take out the driver until the back nine. Very picturesque with interesting holes. Played behind a threesome and didn't wait a bit. Finished the round in 3 hours 36 minutes. I don't know if the course is worth the normal 100.00 to play but for what we paid and the overall quickness
of the round made it extremely enjoyable.

Have not played Coyote Hills for ages but got out 7/5 with a couple of buds and we had a single join us on the second hole. POP was a bit slow, over 4.5 hrs. After reading previous reviews I see that the course conditions can change daily, especially the greens. They did roll a bit slow and you had to read the grain cuz it made a difference. Some of the cups had damage and were not round, too. Many unrepaired ball marks. Tee boxes, fairways, and rough were in decent shape, no bad lies. The layout is marginal for the $ they charge, many oil drilling pumps ruin what could be some nice vistas, as the front 9 has no par 5's and is short and narrow ... I didn't hit a full driver until I got on the back 9 which is a bit more open with a couple of reachable par 5's. Overall, if you can get a deal (we paid $69) it's worth the green fee, marginally. Anything more and I'd be looking elsewhere.

Teed off at 4:45 didn't see anyone else on the course til the 8th hole, ended up finishing all 18. Course was in pretty good shape, some greens seemed to be aerated recently but didn't make much of a difference, rolled pretty smooth, medium speed later in the day. Fairways were good, but some thin lies. Rough was hit and miss, some patchy thin areas, some deep rough areas where you couldn't find a ball. Sand traps were great. Course is only a par 70 and you don't get a par 5 on the front. A lot of target golf, but overall a nice course. After playing black and gold on Saturday, I would have to say this course is not as challenging a layout, nor in as good of shape, but still nothing to scoff at.

Played as a three-ball (that's what we call a "threesome" in India) - behind the slowest foursome ever...do you think they looked behind them and thought about letting us play-through? Not a chance...they were too busy lining up their 4th 2'-putt! Finally had to call the marshal - turns out that they were almost three-full holes down. There oughta be etiquette lessons and a test given before they let people like this on nice golf courses. Because of the pace of play - I'd have to give Coyote Hills FAR LESS than "worth the green fees". Although a nice layout and some challenging holes - the speed of play ruined our day. (I cannot believe that in all my 40+ years of playing golf in SoCal - I had never yet played this course!) Greens were glass-like slick and really fast - - the fairways were perfect and the tee-boxes just fine. It's summer, so - I'll give them a break on the somewhat thin-lies in some places...but it's really a great track. I just wish it hadn't taken 5+ hours to get around. The food in the bar was excellent - - and they had good, cold beer!!

Greens rolling great, ball marks were minimal, but it probably got worse as the day went on. This course is always in good to great condition - it's playing great right now.

Played Friday 4/20. Wanted to play somewhere new, got a $75 rate on golfzing two hours before tee time and headed out. Paired with a nice threesome.

Course is in just above "average" condition. Fairways are a bit thin and rough needs to be trimmed. Greens in ok shape, but play very slow. Tricky breaks. Tee boxes good. Sand was average. Pace was good at 4.5 hours.

Surprised that for $75 they don't throw in a bucket range balls. Starter asked me to share a cart with the other single who I was being paired with. I declined and he seemed shocked. Memo to American Golf: If I'm paying this much money for a round of golf, I don't want to ride with a stranger. You gouge us for the range balls, buy some more carts.

Overall, I won't repeat because of the price. NO WAY this course is a $75 experience. I can play Goose Creek or Oak Quarry - better courses for $15 less per round.

Played 3/14/12. Excellent condition. Greens almost perfect, smooth and receptive. A little bumpy late in day (poa anna?) around the hole, but very little to complain about. I think punch is scheduled late March, so get out there now before maintenance. Bermuda fairways are dormant (light brown, not much green), but play surprisingly well. A little firm and fast, but good lie, when in fairway. Bunkers were good. Almost too much sand in a couple, but better a little too much than way too little. Very enjoyable track, but you must be ready to play a lot of left to right holes from the tee. Prevailing wind usually moves the ball left to right as well. Narrow in places, so precision from tee (even at 6,000 yard black set up) is a must. Very scenic, many elevation changes. You will use a variety of clubs from the tee. Not a lot of driver holes. 18 is really the only right to left tee shot, and only slightly right to left. Be sure to aim at the stoplight in the distance from 18 tee. Enjoy.
