Played Stadium on Saturday & conditions were excellent. During the summer, I always rate courses in desert relative to other desert courses, not to how they are in the winter or peak season. The conditions from tee to green were great. The greens were firm and rolled true. The grain in the bermuda largely impacts the smoothness and speed. Down grain putts rolled excellent and fairly fast. The fairways were perfect. The only complaint would be the rock hard bunkers. I'de probably avoid many of the desert courses over the next month or so as they close for overseeding. I'll be back in November!

All in all, the stadium course is a solid test of golf and I largely enjoy teeing it up there.

The conditions at Stadium were fantastic. Outside of maybe 100 square feet spread over the whole course the fairways were great. The conditions were great all around. Not much I can say other than it was a pleasure to play from these surfaces. Unlike the Norman course, these greens were fast. At least 3-4 points higher on the stimp than Norman. The fast greens were awesome.

The layout is a real brute and even on some long holes you have driver taken out of your hands. Still manages to be a really fun course despite its difficulty.

Rode the Blues (6739/73.1/140) twilight in slightly less than 3H. The weather was sunny, breezy and around 105. Pete Dye design that features moguls and large bunkers galore that make for challenging sight lines. Many of the traps here the average golfer needs to steer clear of to avoid big numbers. Bad shots are really penalized here. Miss the fairway or green and your recovery shot will almost assuredly be a side hill lie, often an extreme side hill lie. Even relatively good shots barely offline can quickly result in a double or worse. The Bermuda tees were lush and well maintained, only some par 3's needed divot attention. The Bermuda fairways were lush with most divots already repaired. The Bermuda rough was lush and still thick even though mowed down. The plentiful sand traps were well maintained with good quality sand. One I was in was thin and could have used more sand. There are many large traps on this course, a few with 10' to 15' lips to play over. Avoiding the sand here is a higher priority than almost any other course I have played. The Bermuda greens putted nice. Medium speed, smooth for Bermuda, consistent and firm. The customer service was top notch. No drink cart twilight. Numerous water stations on the course. Good GPS on the carts. Nice all grass range that was unfortunately closed today. Very challenging layout in good late summer condition. Definitely recommended.

Played the Blues (6739/73.1/140) with Cooper & Al in 4.5 H. Around 90, sunny and calm. After just having hosted the Career Builder PGA event 2 weeks ago, the course was still in excellent condition. Most tees were immaculate. Lush and well maintained, only some par 3's needed divot attention. The fairways were almost perfect. Lush with most divots already repaired. The dormant Bermuda secondary rough had not been over seeded and was more hit and miss. The over seeded primary rough was thick and lush. The rough around the greens is thick, tough to get it up/down out of thick rough right beside firm/quick greens. The plentiful sand traps were decently maintained with good quality sand that was thick. The fairway traps were firm and good to play from. Green side traps were more hit/miss, 2 were very good, 1 was thin. The firm greens putted nice. Medium fast, very consistent and smooth. Downhill putts were treacherous. The customer service was top notch as usual here. Quick efficient check in, helpful starter. cart gal around numerous times. Challenging layout and the conditions were excellent. Definitely recommended.

I played yesterday on Christmas Eve. I found a Hot Deal of $60 for an 11:42am tee time which was a good opportunity to finally get to this course. This was my second visit to PGA West and like last time, the customer service was top notch from bag drop, pro shop, cart guys, restaurant, starter and beverage cart. The expansive driving range was stocked with balls so I had a good warm up. I was paired with three other singles. One lives along the 2nd fairway so his course knowledge was extremely helpful. Another was distractingly talkative and the other was very pleasant with an enviable game.

Visually, the course was beautiful. The emerald green of the tee boxes, fairways, and rough were in stark contrast to the golden brown of everything else. All of the turf was lush and in great shape other than some divot damage on the par 3 tees. The greens were very firm and smooth but somewhat slow. All day long putts abruptly stopped a couple inches short. The water in the lakes was clean and clear.

After everything I’ve heard about this course, I went in with no expectations of a good score. Although it’s considerably less beastly from the red tees than the others, it is still a huge challenge, especially on a day when I just wasn’t hitting well. Other than the tee boxes, I don’t think there is a square foot of level on the whole course. I found myself in two of the bunker ‘canyons’ that are twice as deep as I am tall. I successfully hit out of those, but kept hitting poorly from the perfect lies in the middle of the fairways. Go figure…

The highlight of my round was making par on Alcatraz, the par 3 #17 with the island green. We all know there is the one shot or hole that keeps us going back. That one did it for me. I can’t wait to play the Stadium course again!

We played PGA West Stadium as our 3rd and final round of our trip. We had previously played 36 on Nicklaus the day before and we expected stadium to be in very similar shape. While the course was in very good shape (approaching excellent) it was not as far along as the nick. I guess this is expected as the stadium came out of overseedimg about 10-12 days after the Nicklaus. They had not yet “sprayed” the dormant rough on stadium which meant there were no dramatic visuals of the dark green fairways against the light gold rough (see pictures from Nicklaus review on how awesome it looked). The greens were not quite as true and the fairways just a bit hair more wet/furry. Again, I’m being extremely picky and comparing it to the current condition of the Nicklaus course. My guess is in about 2 weeks the 2 courses will be in identical condition as the career builders challenge is coming up in January. The course it’s self is extremely hard. We played from the pro tees, playing about 7,450. My buddy and I are both low single digit and we decided to give it a whirl...We got our butts kicked! I do really enjoy the track and will definitely return.

This was the best I have ever seen Stadium look as they get it ready to host the upcoming Career Builder PGA event next month. I get more comfortable with the Pete Dye design with each round. There are moguls and bunkers that make for challenging sight lines, many of which the average golfer needs to steer clear of to avoid big numbers. Bad shots are really penalized here. Even relatively good shots barely offline can quickly result in a double or worse. The tees were lush and well maintained, only some par 3's needed divot attention. Day 1 Round 2 of my end of summer PS golf binge was at PGA Stadium. Nickesquire was able to join me, always great to have a GK friend join in for a fun round.

It had been nearly 20 years since I'd played at Stadium, and man this place is a mind trip.

Conditions are fine for end of summer. Greens roll true, but are slow as is normal this time of year. Fairways and rough have good coverage with a dead spot here and there. Staff was nice and helpful.

I cannot imagine playing here on a regular basis, my confidence would be shot. You hit a bad shot here and you pay for it. You hit a decent shot here, you pay for it. You hit a good shot here, you may still pay for it. Ignore the score, and laugh at how many time Stadium punches you in the gut.

I loved it.
