What a difference from the last time I played here ! The fairways actually have nice green lush grass and pretty good overall coverage. Always a few areas which need attention, but so so much better than a month or so ago. Greens were excellent ! Ball rolled true and reasonably quick. Also accepted shots very well. Rough was OK, not great, but decent. Bunkers were good, except I do not understand why there still are no rakes available ?

Staff is ALWAYS great here. One of the reasons i frequent this course as often as I do. Congrats to the maintenance staff for the vast improvement in course conditions.

Gosh, I hate leaving a review like this as I love this course and I play here a few times a year for the past 30+yrs. But, conditions are definitely lacking right now. Only saving grace was the greens. Twilight rate for Saturday at 3pm was $25 to walk and POP was 4.75hrs, waited every tee box for at least 10mins. Then, after that, the hole itself, after we teed off, played normal time, bizarre.

Teeboxes, unlevel, chewed up. Made you analyze for at least one minute to get a good spot. Eventually, found a decent spot to tee it up, although sometimes I opted for level lie with good stance and grass, rather than the ideal tee position. Pretty frustrating, actually. Especially on this course, where tee shot position is key with all the doglegs and often times hitting less than driver.

Fairways were pretty awful. Tons of GUR, so at least they are aware. I always play the ball down, so I dealt with a lot of poor lies in the fairways. Once again, frustrating.

Sand traps were a joke!!! No rakes, crusty, hard pan underneath, footprints, you name it. Stay out of them at all costs. Probably should've played them GUR right now, but once again, I post, so I pretty much took my adjusted double bogey on the two holes I found the greenside bunker.

Rough was a mixed bag, some spots it was short with a lot of clover/weeds easy to play and some other spots it was diabolical, Torrey US Open style.

Greens were literally the only reason why I didn't quit at the turn. They held full shots amazingly well and putted very smooth. Fairly quick, too, especially down hill.

Hope they turn things around at this muni. Right now, I'd probably stay away for a little while.

Our super early on a very mild morning. Not at all busy today ? (Are people going back to work? ) I was very impressed with the greens, considering they were punched not that long ago. They rolled true and had decent speed. Fairways, while spotty had good coverage and were quite green. There was lots of sand in the bunkers, but none were raked yet, but they showed the potential to be really good. Rough was inconsistent.

I can never say enough good things about Sam in the pro shop. He is the best ! One of the reasons I play here frequently. Always enjoy playing here. The only annoying thing is the back nine play, which I seem to encounter almost every time.

Not a great deal to add to my prior review. Another very cold morning, but no frost so at least it wasn't a wasted trip. Greens still the best part of the course. Bunkers are generally OK, with a few exceptions. Fairways are hit/miss. Since I play here on a semi regular basis, I kind of know what to expect, so rarely walk away disappointed.

Pro shop staff is great and is one of the reasons I play here as often as I do, as they are super friendly and accommodating.

I always check weather prior to playing in the early morning. Last week I drove to GC of California and despite a forecast of 51 degrees at 6am, it was 33 degrees with frost, so decided not to play. Checked Oceanside for Monday and it was supposed to be 40 + or - , but pulled into the lot and it was 35 degrees. Knowing that Oceanside rarely if ever call frost delays, decided to go for it. Now I have played many many times in temperatures at/near those temps, but I have NEVER played in conditions like this morning. They must have watered the fairways or something, because it was solid ice. I mean that you could actually slide on the fairways. Crazy !

I checked with the super and he said that the greens were OK, so no problem playing. He was correct, as the greens were nice, in fact rolled very well, except for #5, which apparently they had tried to water and it was covered in part with ice. These conditions remained like this for the entire front nine. Almost impossible to play because many areas where you could not swing without slipping. Greens side bunkers were excellent, some of the better I've played in. Tee boxes with pretty beat up.

Even with this ridiculous conditions, it was rather busy in the morning. Sam in the pro shop is great and a major reason I play here so frequently. Never a problem getting out. I enjoy this track, but today's conditions made for a rather challenging experience.

First out in the dark on a rather mild morning. With all the recent cold temperatures, it was nice to tee off in 53 degree temperature. Because there were three senior who were using glow balls going to tee off right at 6am, wanted to get out in front so it was pitch back black for the first three holes. (Good thing I carry a flashlight)

I like this course. Sam in the pro shop is fantastic and always accommodates my getting out early. However since I last played here, conditions have gone downhill. The fairways were just awful, particularly on the front nine. A little better on the back. Tee boxes are all chewed up and need to be given a rest or new sod. Most of the greens were still very good, but a few are showing wear. Bunkers were well raked with a decent amount of sand.

I know this course is not every one's cup of tea, but it's fun to play, an easy walk (Except #12) and provides a number of good holes. I hope that conditions improve, because I tend to play here fairly often, and having good greens is wonderful, but with fairways so bad now, makes me reconsider another other courses.

Played Oceanside GC on 12/23 with a couple friends and family. This is a hidden gem in North SD. The price is right and this course has some of the BEST muni greens in SD county. Played here a couple times over the last several months and the greens always roll true and have great speed (I prefer quick greens)!!

The DETAILS: We tee'd off around 1:00pm and paid $23(walk)/$35(ride). Finished 16 holes before we called it a day. Probably could have played a 17th but the group had enough. The tee boxes (7/10) were in decent shape. Good grass for the most part, just a few boxes that weren't flat. The fairways (7/10) are in good shape with minimal unfilled divots. The rough (5.5/10) is not existent at Oceanside GC. No real penalizing lies if you miss the fairway unless you're on the hard pack dirt around the course. The bunkers (9/10) are phenomenal! Sand is consistent in all bunkers and they have just the right amount of sand in each trap. As I said earlier...the GREENS (9.5/10) are some of the best I've played on in the past few months. This is by far the best feature of this great track.

CONCLUSION: I'll be back before you know it....hopefully sometime this week if I can get a tee time. Love this challenging track and it is priced extremely fair. The only thing that bothers me is the interior OB on hole 9. I get it from a safety and pace of play standpoint, just not of fan of interior OB on golf courses. If you haven't played Oceanside GC I highly suggest you check it out.

Played Oceanside muni 12/22 with a 9:00 tee time. Have never played here so was excited to play. Proshop was super; got us out a little early. Wasn't really sure where O'side muni was and was surprised it' so close to Arrowood and JUST south of Pendleton GC. Tees were ok, mostly green, quite a few divots, but finding a nice place to hit from was not a chore. Fairways were mostly dormant and thin with a typical muni mix, some bermuda, a little rye, kikuya on the back, but not weedy at all. Rough was the victim of a water reduction program that has left large dirt areas where there was once rough. Overall this helped me immensely as I rarely hit it squarely or in the fairway, so a lot of roll that would eventually find an open area to hit from. Greens were surprisingly the best part of the course, fast and firm and holding shots. Bunkers were Covid-maintained (probably raked daily) but not high quality sand. Areas around greens were thin and uneven with the same muni mix of grasses as the fairway. I was pleasantly surprised by the layout. A decent mix of interesting holes and a few fillers. Mostly flat, but quite a few doglegs to keep it interesting. This course abutts the south end of Pendleton so there are very few houses in view. I really like Arrowwood, but I'd play here again for the greens-price-walkability-scenery factor maybe one out of three times. Our round seemed slow, but were done in 4.25 hours. Didn't see a snack cart out.

First out in the dark on a cold morning. A few people there, but not too crowded. Staff was as always, terrific. Friendly & accommodating. I am a big fan of this course in part because of the staff and the ease of getting out early, plus I just find the layout interesting. That said, I found the conditions, which are not always the best anyway, lacking. The grass has gone totally dormant. The greens, which have always been the highlight of this course were far from what they were just a few weeks ago? Tee boxes had areas of heavy divot damage.

I hope that these downside on poorer conditions are temporary, but with winter just around the corner, I am not too confident things will improve.
