Course services were great! very attentive staff. It's a trek for me coming from Orange County, but well worth the once yearly trip here.

I played yesterday in GK’s year end gathering. I hadn’t played as much golf this year as usual so there was no way I would miss this chance to play at Ram’s Hill.
This was my fourth time playing here and, once again, the course conditions were great. The forward tee boxes were all level with hardly any divots. The fairways are the most beautiful shade of green with not a bad lie to be found, and the rough was very manageable. The greens had a lot of spike marks but they didn’t seem to affect the rolls. There were some very challenging pin placements on the par 3s. I ended up in a few bunkers. The sand was great but a bit deeper than I can easily hit out of.
Thanks to Rams Hill’s staff and Johnny for another memorable day. I’m looking forward to next year’s outing.

Always enjoy the annual GK event at Rams Hill and this year was no exception. Course conditions were just about as good as always but I'll be that guy and say that the greens weren't as good as I've seen them before. Now mind, you we are talking about Rams Hill's ridiculously high standards so take it with a grain of salt but I found them to be slower and bumpier than I can ever remember but that just means they're still better than 95% of all other courses. All other aspects of the course and service were great as always. The new GPS equipped carts were really nice. Food on the patio was tasty albeit slow arriving, but we had nowhere to go anyway so we just enjoyed the day. Thanks again to Johnny and the staff at Rams Hill. Already looking forward to the next event!

Another great day yesterday at Rams Hill. What a fun back-to-back GK Plays weekend to finish out 2018. Thanks to everyone involved to make this outing happen. I always look forward to any visit to Rams Hill. As usual, the course and staff did not disappoint.

As Sal mentioned, the conditions were excellent and probably a slight step up from my last couple of visits. Rams Hill kind of sets its own standard for exceptional conditioning as it blows away just about anything else in SoCal, on par with the best Coachella Valley courses. Tee boxes and fairways were excellent. There were some mushy spots after the rain this week, but those were appropriately flagged off as GUR. The rough was lush and just deep enough to make you work, but a pleasant reprieve after the La Costa Legends rough the day before. Bunkers were fantastic with plenty of soft sand. Greens receptive and rolling well at medium speeds.

Rams Hill continues to uphold its reputation as one of the best courses in SoCal and it's always worth the trek out to Borrego Springs. If you haven't been out there, it's a must-play.

Guess I am the first review for the GK Plays outing at Rams yesterday (12/9) and as always, it was a blast. Conditions here today mirrored those of almost every other time I have made the trip and it's hard to walk away from this course unimpressed. Overall, every aspect of the day was fantastic. Played well for the first time here and that probably added to my ratings but here they are. Tee boxes: Played the blue tee boxes, but anytime a course of this caliber offers a fair amount of tee sets, it's a huge plus as it helps avoid everyone playing from the same set (incorrectly I may add) thus avoiding major turf issues. Never had an issue finding solid footing, though on a few holes the turf was a tad harder to drive the tee into, however much of a first-world problem that may sound like. Fairways: Like always, carpet-like and sparkling forest green pathways contrasting the wonderful desert background. Roll felt like it was more than fair, turf conditions were wonderful in that I had no bad lies to hit from and everyone from GK before me used the feed mix in their carts generously. Visually stunning to see a course where the fairways look like the photo on the scorecard. Rough: The times I found the "rough" yesterday weren't overly penal, however I'm not certain I found anything that wasn't fairway, water, sand, or desert more than twice. Those times the rough wasn't half as thick as Torrey South, but it did hide the ball some and made me club up. Bunkers: Was only in one all day and the sand consistency was excellent; offered ample amount of off-white beach style sand to at least attempt a sand save. Didn't really hear any complaints about the fairway bunkers, so I assume all the sand was in good shape today. Did have a few bunkers that were poorly raked so I am hoping whomever that was in the groups ahead of us will give it a better effort next time. Greens: Like all else, excellent shape sans one or two greens that had some burn out/turf issues that were thankfully on the extreme end of the pin placement. Roll today was fair (as opposed to the glass-like consistency in roll the first time I played here a few years ago) and I didn't see any issues with the terrain. Again, my group (second to last) found quite a few craters from guys who had a heavy foot with their cleats, but that's on them not the course. ETC: Cart GPS wasn't quite as accurate as I hoped in relation to pin placement, but outside of that, great to see the investment in this software as the digital scorecard even took into account any input handicaps in its calculations. Comfortable ride, USB chargers, and ice/water bottles in the coolers a plus. Staff was attentive and genuinely nice (everyone knew GK and welcomed us multiple times). Very nice to see the new Ram Shack (I believe that was the name) on the back 9, as it was much needed in past years. Cart attendant passed by our group at least 6-7 times. Food in the restaurant was good and fairly priced. Patio after was heated and offered a comfortable environment for post-match celebration. Thanks for everything Johnny and co.; this was a great way to end the year!

Even with the drive out there it's now one of my favorites near SD. ProV1s on the range. Everyone that worked there was nice. I paid Sunday rack rate of $125, totally worth it.

This course is alot of fun.Imagine playing in Palms springs without all the traffic.
Worth the drive and every penny.
Look forward to getting back there November when it reopens.

How do I begin?...it's been awhile. Oh yeh, date/time... Played Thurs 4/26 @ 1000; Friday 4/27 @ 0810; Saturday 4/28 @ 0800; and one more go round on Sunday 4/29 @ 8:20 (my birthday/anniversary) - As Winner of the House on the Hill (overlooks the 15th fairway and gorgeous mountain vistas) getaway, I was blessed to have had the opportunity to stay and play with family and friends at this, my absolute FAVORITE golf course. Friends bsparks; tobster; cpennbo; and sboggio flew in from TX and drove down from the mountains to join us for the stay and Unlimited Free golf for four days. Two of our sons, nephew and brother in law also joined us for a couple rounds each. I certainly would've played twice a day if I could've, but family and friends at the house clamoured for our attention as well. Invited folks from our home club Friday afternoon, and several from GK for Saturday afternoon rounds, and only ones available and brave enough to venture the windy rounds were dconnally, itslikeimsayin, and ratpatrol (Huge Thank you for joining us and glad to see you enjoyed the free round and dinner - sorry you couldn't make it by the house...it was EPIC!) As the fellow GKers relayed the course played hard in the afternoon winds...our morning rounds were beautiful in the early morning and by the turn, winds started making you work for that perfect shot to the green. Very nice practice area past the clubhouse, and large chipping area (adjcent to Hole 1). As the season wanes down for this course you do see some brown/thin areas which I've never seen on this course in early season play (ever). But, it was still in much better condition than those in the local areas we play for sure. Ground crews were hard at work on Thurs/Friday reworking several bunker areas on the 18th. Nice roll out in the fairways, and if you know where to hit the ball to benefit from the 'speed slots' and slopes around the greens, you could certainly capitalize on pars/birdies. Seed bottles for divot repairs, but it seems some golfers simply don't know or care to fix their divots/ball marks or rake bunkers. Common theme it seems. So we simply fixed ours and then some to do our part as us GKers often do. Bunkers were deep and penalizing, with the sand being moist and firmer in the morning then drying out to soft fluffy consistencey later in the day, making adjustments critical. Rough was very easy to hit out of only being about an inch or so in length, and still quite lush/minimum thinning. Greens ran pretty true, and in the morning were quite receptive. Difficult to read at times with the subtle breaks. You'd think it would run toward the valley, but not always so. As the day's sun dried things out, and the winds became a factor, keeping shots on track increased the difficulty factor, but a fun challenge for everyone nonetheless. No GPS on the brand new comfy carts, but coolers w/ice and 2 bottles of water were great; only saw several ball washers throughout the course. New snack bar on 10th (take the dirt path right over the hill to the building), or wait until heading to the 14th for your stop. Other than that, there is only one other rest area stop to get ice/water on the front nine. No cart girl while we were out there as I believe the course is prepping to close down for their season to help get this emerald in the desert back in tip top shape for next season. The pride they have for their course shows. The staff here at Ram's Hill are TOP NOTCH...the restaurant staff were the Best!!! Always very welcoming and accomodating to our large/ever changing groups. Pro Shop staff and Concierge were professional and ensured our stay and play was nothing short of remarkable. Sad to have missed sharing a cheery (shared birthday) Hello with GM Bill, but maybe next time. I can't thank him or his entire staff enough for making this 'House on the Hill' hoorah the most AMAZING EPIC MEMORABLE Birthday/Anniversary celebration for Us, Our Ohana (family), and fantastic friends. You simply can't beat RAM'S HILL. You just want to keep going back again and again...I know we will.

The extreme wind definitely added an interesting challenge and as was said made the course play very differently than when the ball isn't moving so much on land and in the air. You really had to adjust to the lengths (and lack thereof) the ball was traveling.
Great conditions, fun layout, great customer service and a nice oasis at the clubhouse/restaurant makes for a beautiful golf experience.
