Played the Ranch on Saturday and the course is in fair shape. The greens were rock hard and very fast and were nice to putt on. Nobody here likes to fix divots but I think that is at most courses now. Some of the greens had some rough spots on them but the pins were placed no where close to those spots. Tee boxes in fairly good shape with a few not very level and some with divot damage. Fairways were nice and lush and in good shape. No rough and the bunkers were nice with plenty of sand. Food in the clubhouse is good and more people should be using there restaurant. Cart Gal was always around as well.
I don't think this place is worth the large sum they charge but it is close and usually plays fairly quickly and is usually in good shape.

Played ER on 09/13. As with my previous review of Carlton Oaks, it seems the players of Encinitas Ranch are aware of the upcoming aeration, and are doing their part by not repairing any ball marks. However unlike Carlton Oaks, there were so many ballmarks at Encinitas Ranch that putting was definitely affected. Putts were hopping all over the place.

Everything else on the course was fine. Good coverage on fairways, tees level, rough is hit and miss, normally OK. But greens should be the #1 focus, and I do not see that emphasis here.

I have always enjoyed this course. However, even at the JC Golf guest rate of $62, there are way too many other options with better conditions and lower price. Let's hope the coming course maintenance improves things for the coming winter, because as it is, I cannot recommend Encinitas Ranch.

I played Encinitas Ranch. I have not been able to golf alot since our daughter was born on 6/1 but I was able to play Sunday 7/22/2018. Overall the course is in good summer shape and the ocean breeze beats the heat. My dad and I teed off around 10:30 with another twosome. I played the green tees. The blue tees here seem to place the tee boxes in weird spots that try to maximize the distance on the card. Dad played the white tees which are very forgiving for a senior. He was able to reach the greens in regulation on the majority of holes something I don't think he could have done playing from the green or blue tees. Alot of the tee boxes have small slopes but not enough to seriously impeded your swing. The fairways are pretty good but they were a little thinner than I remembered them with some bare spots on the edges of the fairways. The greens are in good shape they held all manner of shots and rolled nicely. I do not think the bunkers were raked Sunday morning and the sand was a little firm in them. The ocean views were nice and I was just great to get out and golf. The price is a little higher than I wanted to pay but its my dads favorite course.

I played here yesterday, teeing off at 11:30. It was cold and quite windy, which did not lend itself to low scores. Fairways and rough had bare spots, brown spots, and multiple varieties of grass, similar to what you see at a muni. The bunkers were in pretty good shape, as were the tee boxes.

Half of each green had been aerated no more than the week before, so it was difficult to judge speed when putting from the punched half to the un-punched half. Green fees should have been discounted for the conditions, but were not.

The grounds crew seemed oblivious to us, in one instance mowing the collar of a par three while we teed off, without a thought of pausing or getting out of the way. The course is badly in need of maintenance, but for the greens fees I would have expected better service.

Overall, the conditions were below the normal standards of the course. But even in the best of times I wouldn't expect it to be on anyone's "must play" list. The layout is odd. Why someone decided to put a golf course on this particular piece of land is a mystery to me. There are many better courses within a half hour drive that are much more interesting and better conditioned for the same or lower price.

Played here yesterday with GK member Jon P. at the SCGA One Day Series 2-person better ball tournament. It was an absolutely fabulous time out there and we actually did quite well (-10) and tied for 3rd in a full field. This was my first time playing here (amazingly) and I was quite impressed with the course. In spite of the fact it is so short, you never really feel the lack of length as a hindrance. There were some very quirky and enjoyable holes, other crazy ones that made you think, and course knowledge here is definitely a plus. Overall I would absolutely come back here. Conditions weren't prime (as the last reviewer mentioned) but that did not take away from a great day. The review...

Tee boxes: Perhaps the least positive part of the day. Most of the tee boxes were fairly beat up (probably from the amount of play before us), but I distinctly remember at least three holes in which it took more than a minute to find good turf to drive my tee into. Also, there were more than a few boxes that were uneven and slope in one direction.

Fairways: Good overall, though there were quite a few unfilled divots out there. More importantly though, there was grass to hit from on 95% of shots, ample roll, and visually it wasn't some gross yellow-tinged patchwork of dirt.

Rough: Thick in certain areas. Penal at it's worst but from a scale of 1 to Torrey, closer to 4-5; made you club up, but no issues getting the ball out. More penal than rough were the OB/red stake areas that are scattered around the property.

Bunkers: Was in quite a few today but they were good! A mix in terms of sand consistency, but never was it that hard to get out. Fairway and green-side bunkers all had good quality and ample amounts of sand. A few had some d%mn sand, but it turned out to not be soaked.

Greens: The highlight of the round. Some of these green complexes were just insane (think Redhawk at its worst), while others were just run of the mill. All had fast speeds, tricky breaks, and good conditioning. They were challenging and offered some head-scratching putts all day.

ETC: The Encinitas Ranch staff was very friendly; the SCGA rules officials were a little less than friendly, but alas they couldn't ruin the day. Staff said they pride themselves on pace of play, and even though SCGA outings are notoriously slow, today the front played at 2.45 and the back at 2.15 so there you have it. Carts with plenty of juice and color GPS that were super useful on blind shots. Course layout was fun. Good clubhouse/grill and cart attendant out and about. Ample parking lot and not to difficult to find on the map. Overall had a wonderful time and would recommend.

I played Encinitas Ranch on 3/18/2018. The course is in decent shape and has great views but a few areas could be improved. We teed off around 10:30 and I played the green tees which sometimes groups you with the white tees, sometimes the blue tees and sometimes your own tee box. The course is not very long I think only one par 4 over 400 from the green tees. There is alot of area to miss off the tee on most holes and still have an good shot into the green. There were a few tee boxes that were not level. Most of these were on the par threes. The fairways were a little thin and there were a few bare spots on the course as well. I was in a few bunkers some had been raked before I got in them. A few times there was no previous raking and the sand was firm. The greens are very large and this is a great place to play snake. They rolled pretty true. There were a few bare spots on the collars. Overall this place is a decent layout with good ocean views they just need to fix the bare spots, rake the bunkers and level a few tee boxes and it will be in top shape.

Some playing partners the other day recommended this course so I gave it a shot. As advertised, there are several views of the ocean throughout the course. Other than that it's a typical muni course with decent greens.

Tee boxes and fairways need some work but were playable. The greens rolled nice and a decent pace. Most greens sloped quite a bit from back to front (I seemed to always have a downhill putt), but were fairly easy to read the breaks.

The one sand trap I was in had nice fluffy sand

Customer service was very good and pace of play was ok. A little over 4.5 hrs for prime time holiday weekend isn't too bad actually.

I was dissapointed that for $104 they don't include range balls. Again, this is a muni course with nice views. Frankly, I felt it was overpriced. Locals get a price break as do members who purchase a JC players card. For a reduced rate, I'd p,ay it again but for the public rack rate, save your money.
