Played 6/27/15 with my monthly golf group. Way cooler than LA, which was nice. Our group had range ball included for our round, but the range was closed because the machine was broken and they had to hand give the balls. Waited around 45 minutes for the range to open, but they never got it open and I don't know how long it took to get it open afterwards. It didn't seem like they were in a rush to get balls back to range area or the pro shop.

Course was interesting. Not long, not to narrow, but have to hit shots. Fairway was in good shape. Rough was also in good shape, not too long but not too short. Sand was ok. Not the real fluffy, but they had plenty of sand. Greens held shots, but sometimes it was a little on the firm side. Greens did roll true at medium speed. I hope it wasn't the our group in front of us, but always saw 3-5 ball marks. People need to fix their ball marks...Customer service was good, outside of the range situation. Saw the cart girl a handful of times on the course.

There are too many SD golf courses that I haven't played, so I don't know if I'll return anytime soon, but a nice track to test your skills.

Enjoyed Memorial Day on this course, my second round here inside of 45 days. Both times, it was a good experience, relatively tough layout, and in good condition each time.

Enjoyed Memorial Day on this course, my second round here inside of 45 days. Both times, it was a good experience, relatively tough layout, and in good condition each time.

Pace on Memorial Day, because of the rain in the morning (we played in the overcast but dry afternoon), was fast, because we were the only ones on the course--or so it seemed.

Greens bit well this day, they were true, and it was an enjoyable day for all of us.

Played here on Monday in the AM. They started punching the greens today on the front nine so we played the back nine twice.

Back nine Greens: smooth, firm and medium to fast speed.

Back nine Greens: smooth, firm and medium to fast speed.

Fairways: better than average, some bare spots, few too many divots.

Rough: some bare spots but not very penal.

Traps: decent sand.

POP was just over 4 hours.

Played Thursday 4/16 with a mid morning time. Pace was quite slow at a little over 5 hours, waiting for every shot. The starter gives you a long speech about their "under 4:30" pace policy, but it doesn't seem to help at all and the on-course player assistants didn't seem to be doing anything about moving the slow groups along.

Tee boxes were mostly good with some divot damage, but not so much as it affected where to tee. Fairways were fairly thin, firm, and fast, with quite a few places with very thin lies. Bunkers were pretty good (except for player damage - comments below), with good sand and plenty of it. Greens were pretty good although fairly slow; no bare areas and reasonably smooth, except for player damage (again).

The pricing at Encinitas is quite high for the quality of the course unless you're an Encinitas resident, i.e. it isn't a very good value. A prior reviewer indicated the carts have good GPS, but our cart didn't have GPS and we didn't see any on any other carts. Overall, Encinitas Ranch is an average muni with some distant ocean views, at a high price.

One final word about the course conditioning. One thing that makes it feel like just an average muni, in addition to the slow pace and average conditioning, is the extensive player-caused damage and litter around the place. Every green had many, many unfixed pitch marks. Bunkers had footprints throughout, often going out of the bunker right beside a rake. Unfilled divot marks were plentiful in the fairways, despite the divot mix on every cart. Empty beer bottles and other litter were laying all over the place. Multiple cigar and cigarette butts were scattered on nearly every tee box, plus alongside greens. It feels that most of the people who play here absolute slobs without any respect for the course. I'm sure that isn't actually true, but it just doesn't feel cared for by the players.

This is a fun course. Carts have good gps systems. Staff is very friendly and helpful. But it's a very popular course, making it a very slow round. However the staff and cart gps do a good job of reminding people to keep moving. Most holes you'll wait on the tee but not much through out the hole. Weekend golf is always hurry up and wait here.. Great views throughout entire course. And perhaps the coolest beverage cart, they have bloody marys and kettle one lemonades on tap!

Rough: in decent condition, 2-3" high with some hard pan lies

Traps: excellent, best conditioned traps I've seen in awhile

POP: at 4 hours

Customer Service: very friendly especially the starter. Also, nice place for a sandwich after golf. I had the chicken ceasar wrap.

Great view of the ocean from most holes. It was quite breezy and cool in the early AM.

Played here for the first time 7/20 with mid-morning start. Nice driving range and putting green for warmup. The greens on the course were slow until the marine layer burned off. The caused for me all sorts of problems as the greens looked faster than they played for the front nine. Course is wide open for the getting from tee to green. Plays more like a resort course than traditional SoCal muni. Props to the course superintendent for the quality sand in the bunkers. Favorite hole is #13, challenging dogleg right par 4 with trouble right.

Time flys ! It was almost 16 years since I last played here. (The reason was they always told me they would not allow singles to go out first in the morning) Anyway I spoke with Dawn in the pro shop and she assured me that I could get out first alone at 6am, so I decided to give it a shot. When I arrived I was told they normally send a 4 some out first, but I could go if I did not interfere with maintenance.

Played two balls and really slowed done my pace and just kind of "dogged it" so as not to catch the cutters. Still finished in 2hrs 45 min, which was just behind maintenance, so it was never really an issue.

I recall liking this course. I did not have very good recall of the course, but it was nice as I remember. (They did flip/flop the nines) I checked my old cards and I used to play this from the blacks at 6850 yards. There are no black tees not, blue tees are about 6529 or si, which now that I am older and shorter than I was 16 years ago, was the more appropriate tees for me to play anyway. Course was in really nice condition, greens a little slower than I prefer, but still reasonably quick. Everything else was fine. Had a nice time and will return again soon providing they allow me to get out again first as a single.

Hey guys! I played 5/20 at "The Ranch". I like this course...

Tee Boxes: Tee boxes looked good, not many bare spots and they were pretty lush. I thought that the boxes were fine, even at the par 3's.

Fairways: Fairways were moderately green with some browning and bare spots. ER has always struggled with drainage and watering issues. There are times every round where you find spots on the FW's that need repair.

Greens: The greens were very good, I enjoyed them. Always fun putting here unless major maintenance was performed.

Bunkers: I am terrible from bunkers but the bunker condition is good. ER has recently redone all of the sand in the bunkers and it went well. Good traps...what an oxymoron.

Overall, I really like ER and it's a nice place to score well as long as it's not windy. There aren't any trees on the course so you can really get wild with the driver and not worry too much. The views are nice and this course always provides a solid round. I think the price is pretty steep when value for money is concerned, but I think a big part of the price is the location and the views.
