Played Twin Oaks in San Marcos for the first time ever for my GK Cup match with Marvin (mcantos), Gary (Gary00) and Andrew (AndrewZ28). We got a great deal set up by Gary to play this very fine and fun track for just $45 with cart and range balls - thanks Gary! While the parking lot was very full, things still seemed leisurely and organized as we took off for our 11:06am tee time, riding from the blue tees. Twin Oaks is a very fun and challenging course that seems to do just about everything a little above average, which makes for a very fun day. There are some very tight fairways here, but others that are quite generous. There are some fun elevations here to test your club selection, but also some slopes that will help you find the fairways if you're errant. There are plenty of water features to test you, but nothing gimmicky or too over the top. It's just a very nice variety of holes in a pretty picturesque neighborhood and setting. All the conditions at Twin Oaks are, once again, above average. The greens have very nice coverage and are pretty fast so it may take a few holes to get them down, but there are some challenging green complexes here and a lot of nervy putts if you're above the hole. The fairways play pretty nicely all around, but there are some holes where the collection areas are bit beat up. And it appears that the fairways have been painted in to look more green than they really are, but it didn't affect the lies at all. The rough is varied as expected but you can definitely find lots of trouble off the fairways, while the bunkers all had above average sand in them, and the tee boxes were just fine. We had cart service swing by a few times so that was nice, and the range and putting facilities are convenient and well taken care of, however it was odd that our cart had a nice GPS system, but Gary and Andrew's did not. The POP was just under five hours but it felt surprisingly faster thanks to the fun competition and good company. Just a really good day for golf overall at a very nice facility with people that seem to care about its upkeep. I would definitely recommend playing Twin Oaks right now and would love another shot at playing a much better score if I'm ever in the area again with some free time.

12/16 using their cyber Monday voucher $90 2some on a nice but busy day 420 POP which felt a lot slower as waited on every shot behind the 3some ahead. Was initially paired with a couple of guys fairly new to golf who knew very little about golf etiquette and were rather defensive when asked to mark their ball or pay attention to not walking on the line with a comment of we are just here to have fun. They asked us to go on ahead which we did and definitely played faster as 2 2somes with a lot less stress for all involved.
Course it self is in good shape. Fairways have good cover and condition with 16 being the exception with some bare areas. Some thinner lies but not bad overall. Rough is dormant and whispy fairly easy to play from. Tees ok some thin and a few rather worn. Bunkers have deep sand groomed but typical covid condition.
Greens are quite good fairly smooth medium fast with pins today in some challenging locations close to slopes of place on the peninsula. Friendly staff and cart service making several rounds.
Small bucket of range balls included--about 20 balls--soft mats on the range. big practice green about the same speed as on the course. GPS which unfortunately kept freezing so needed to re-boot every 2 holes.

Played this morning at Twin Oaks, I found a tee time for a single yesterday. at 7:30 am. First time playing here, the course looked narrow from pictures I saw and from some reviews I read. I played the blue because it looked like they had moved up a bit, so it was probably playing about 6350, maybe 6400 yards. The fairways looked to be in good shape and on some holes they had replaced some sod, so it looks they are trying to keep in good shape. Tee boxes were fine mostly level with a few occasional divots not filled in, but overall good shape. The front nine greens were in very nice shape but a few of the backside maybe 3 were sanded. My foursome included a local couple Annie & Rich who were regulars saying the course is about to aeriate the greens soon. The fourth was a fellow named John who has moved to Carlsbad from New Hampshire, all 3 were excellent playing mates. Back to the course conditions, if you strayed off the fairways the rough was tough maybe 1 1/2” and combine that with the morning dewness it made it hard to find the ball at times. Overall, I had a great time and always fun to play a course I haven’t played before. Definitely recommended.

joined a threesome for a 210pm tee time on thursday 9/10 playing from the whites(6146) on a cloudy warm brezzy afternoon..pop was a decent 420 waited on almost every tee shot...fairways had uniform coverage no GUR to speak of always a good lie and the ball sat up nicely...the rough was juicy 2 to 3 inches mostly bermuda..if you hit your ball into the wooded areas it was gone alot of thorny grown cover..greens were mostly very good one or two that were peppered with ball marks/tee boxes were ok mostly level but a little chewed up on the par 3's..bunkers had very light sand as close to concrete as you can get.fairways were really narrow but most par 4 are under 370 s0 you can get away with a average drive and still have less than 160 left.really enjoyed the course saw the cart girl twice/bathrooms open on both 9's..payed 35 with a cart(senior rate)...highly recomend

Out this morning at 6:18am. Still dark, but that's OK. The course was absolutely soaked ! Way over watered. I felt guilty at times just driving down the fairways because of all the water. The fairways were very green/lush, but with all the watering, not much roll. Some of the rough was very thick, and it goes without saying, wet ! Greens rolled well and were very receptive. Fixed a lot of ball marks. The greenside bunkers were well above average, from what we all have become used too recently.

Staff was great and very accommodating. Obviously being first out there was no issue with pace of play. We finished in a little under 2 1/2 hours without rushing, and no maintenance as a distraction. Nice ! Always enjoy this course, enough of a challenge to keep one's interest, but not so penal to cause much stress. As a senior, it's nice not having a lot of 400+ yard par 4's to deal with, but the par 3 holes here more than make up for it.

8/11 using costco voucher $40 teed off about 20 min ahead of our 815 time as starter was very helpful, plus now we know on Tuesdays the range is closed in the a m for mowing etc. Just under 2 for the front then about 215 for the back waiting a bit on most holes. Foggy and cool for the 1st 6 holes, pleasant for the next 6 then warmish and more humid to finish.
Lot of over night watering and several sprinkler lines operating on the fairways leaving quite a few wet areas some with standing water but the approach seems to be working as most conditions are good with healthy turf and good lies. Being rather soft not much roll out however. Rough about 1-2 inches and healthy with the ball coming to a quick stop upon entry. Ball would either sit up or sink so every shot had its unique challenge.
Tees ok with a couple of uneven lies due to marker placement. Bunkers had been groomed but continued the theme of wetness resulting in a muddy/sandy consistency.
Greens were surprisingly quick considering that they too were mostly soft, but very closely mowed leaving a rather fragile look and many large pitch marks and even when having been repaired there were often quarter size spots that were smooth but without grass.
Good layout with some elevation changes rolling terrain defensively placed bunkers and some water that can come into play. Friendly golfer oriented staff.

Played Twin Oaks first off on 06/16/20. There was a big junior tourney going off in the morning, so the course was well prepped.

Greens were really nice. Smooth, and a little quick but not difficult except that I could not read the breaks at all. Fairways, there were several bare areas marked as ground under repair, but outside of those spots the fairways were really nice. Tee boxes were a bit soggy, but generally in good shape. Rough is average - sometimes good, sometimes iffy.

In all, course was better today than I remember it in the past. Fun to play.

Played Sunday morning in just under four hours. The staff is great and the carts are good. This place is usually super busy but not all that day. The tee boxes are all level but a few were thin and soggy. The rough was a few inches long so you can find your shots that miss the fairways. The fairways were in great shape with usually enough fluff to make good shots from. There were a few holes where the kikuyu had made shots difficult to make. The traps all had plenty of good sand and were not too wet to hit from. The greens were a little firm compared to what I've seen here previously. The greens did not hold shots real well with many rolling out more than you'd expect. They also looked as if they may have had some recent maintenance as they were very bumpy and varied in speed. The weekend rates are a little higher than local courses but it may be worth it for some.

First off at 6:30am. Originally had a 7am tee time, which was supposed to have been the first time, but learned later they "adjusted" the tee times, so after complaining a bit, was moved to 6:30am.

AS prior review indicated, greens are the best part of the course right now. My only complaint is the "pool noodle" which prevents the ball from going down into the cup, are cut too high, so the ball does not stay in the hole. Otherwise the greens rolled well and for the most part received shots. Most fairways were nice, with some bare spots, but nothing too severe. Bunkers were well maintained, but were very thin at times, with just a veneer of sand covering the hard underpan. Tee boxes OK, Rough was fairly consistent and very playable.

As always the staff was friendly, check in was check and efficient. Nice to return to Twin Oaks, as it has always been a fun track to play.
