6/19 using costco voucher $40 with a 752 start last tee time in front of mens club and cruised with no one pushing us and no waiting until about 13 when we caught the jr golf campers--let us through 1st on 15 and then on 18--POP 320.
Each time I come back here I am more impressed, the lay out is scenic and feels more remote than it is and has a good variety of holes. Conditions are really good. Fairways are lush with just enough firmness for some roll while providing good cushion. Rough about 2-3 inches giving a nice out line and depending on the lie varying levels of challenge especially around the greens with generally deeper thicker growth. Tees ok level for the most part with the par 3s more chewed up(lack of rotating markers and lack of attention to filling divots)
Greens have fully healed and could not tell which 1/2 had been completed last. Smooth medium fast firm but receptive with very few un-repaired ball marks. Greens are good sized, do not have a lot of contours but enough slope and depending on pin location enough subtle break to cause a few head shakes.
Friendly check in and a monitor at 5 to assess speed of play--goal is 420--which is pretty realistic what with a couple of trouble holes that can create a jam.
As indicated playing conditions are really good but on this day some of the ancillary areas needed attention, the main bath room needed cleaning and restocking, the sand bottles on the cart were nearly empty, the water station on the back had no cups and the port-a-potty needed some attention.

4/19 using underpar $80 2some 10 am tee off 440 POP with considerable waiting making the round feel much longer. Overall course conditions were quite good. Fairways for the most part were lush with only a few thin areas on a couple on the back 9. Good roll and cushion. The poa rough was just mean, quickly stopping balls from forward progress and while not looking to be that difficult to hit from, the wirery nature often grabbed and twisted the clubs. Then there were the areas at the back of the green that were longer and more lethal especially when trying to control a downhill chip.
Tees were mainly good with some thin areas and some needing divot repair, mostly affecting appearance. Bunkers looked good but did have some some areas that were overly wet leaving sand/dirt mix that did not play very well. The dry nicely compacted sand was very playable.
The greens of course were very good as they are scheduled for punching(1/2 of each at a time) 4/22 and 23 with the other 1/2s sometime in May.) Fast and smooth was the theme.
Friendly staff, frequent rounds by the snack cart. No marshal to keep things moving on a busy Friday with one morning modified shotgun tourney group on the course before us and another tourney following. According to the score card a 425 POP is the goal.

Always enjoy playing this course ! One of its most unique features is that none of the pr 4 holes are over 400 yards, even from the tips. This works real well for this senior golfer. However all the par 3 holes are good length and fairly difficult.

Staff is ALWAYS great here! They always accommodate me is getting out first, so pace of play is fantastic. The only downside is that we only had about four greens mowed. They were fairly quick, but the unmowed greens were not too fast. Fairways are nice, but do have some bare spots. Only in one bunker, but it has lots of sand and was well manicured.
The rough was the thickest I have ever seen it. It was difficult is even find your ball, even around the greens. Felt a little like U S Open rough. ( I know it's not even close, but played that way for us)

This is really a fun track for those who have not played it, provides interesting shot approaches and allows those of us who are distance challenged to hit a lot of greens, yet maintain a degree of challenge.

Back after a 6-week(!) layoff recovering from a sprained knee – reading the GK site with everyone posting reviews, etc. made me crazy to get back out. The cortisone injection 2 weeks ago is finally taking hold and I’m hoping the knee is behind me.

Played with a high school buddy who had a UP certificate for $40 each – a decent deal for this course. Sunny and warm on Monday morning, 3/25/19, at 1130. Starter sending groups off regularly – we were out on time, paired with 2 singles, one a TO employee and the other the GM at Eastlake GC in Chula Vista - both guys on a busman’s holiday! They were younger big hitters playing (spraying) from the blue tees; we played white. Driving range extra $$ and on mats today in a constricted area near the wall-off fencing for the “Learning Center”. Fairly large putting green without any undulations but indicative of on-course green speeds. Carts with nice interactive GPS (but the incorrect pin locations today!) but no ball washer or ice chest. Play on the front nine was pretty pokey (2.5+hr) but we jumped ahead of the group in front of us at the turn and played the back nine faster, finishing in just over 4.5hr.

TO won’t punch greens until April, so we found the greens to be in very good condition – smooth, fairly firm, mostly released shots a bit, but rolling at medium-fast speed and scary fast on some downhillers! We didn’t see too many ballmarks. After all the rain the fairways were green but an indifferent mowing pattern meant some areas were great, some were bushy and clumpy, and some were pretty bare. All the rain meant that the rough was thick and juicy, and we had several instances where we had to search intently for wayward balls. The thick rough was especially problematic around the greens, making solid contact and distance control difficult. Tees were level and could use trimming, but otherwise uniformly good. Sand was fairly thin and damp but had been raked and was fairly soft.

Lots of hazard areas near holes 1-4 and 15-18 slows play in those areas, crimping the start and finish of the round. The drop area on hole 7, a par-3 over a lake, is in very poor condition – dry, clumpy, and thin. (And someone stole the “Drop Area” sign! Today we had a piece of paper, with “Drop Area” handwritten, stuck in the ground with a tee!!) Our cart started out with the low-battery light on, and we messaged the shop, and called, on the third tee, to no avail. Finally got them to exchange the cart on the 10th tee. Pricy, just OK ham sandwich at the turn. Hole handicaps on the scorecard don’t make much sense, with par-5s getting the lowest handicap designation.

Decent conditions here with some challenges for a relaxed play.

3/4 using underpar $80 2some CPO with rather wet and soft fairways post rains. POP under 4 and could have been faster as there was no one out ahead--only the lurking rough that did a good job of swallowing then hiding any balls off the fairway resulting in extra time spent hunting. Rough was even longer around the greens providing some very tough challenges especially if short sided. Fairways were wet with zero to limited roll but generally able to secure ok lies with some LCP invoked. Fairways look to become quite good in the near future.
Tees were lush but needed a trim. Bunkers by observation--no personal encounters today--were freshly groomed and only one had residual water.
Greens were healthy, smooth rolling consistently at medium speeds.
Friendly staff, easy check in and cheerful starter. Basic GPS. No cart service or marshal as play when we started was quite sparse. Driving range has plush mats.

I played Twin Oaks on Sunday 12/2/2018 in a nice warm up round before the GK plays events next weekend. Overall the course is pretty soggy right now but appears to have recovered very nicely from the winter maintenance.

Dad and I were grouped with a single and we teed off from the white tees at our start time of 10:39 and were finished right around 3 pm to complete in under 4:30 not that bad for a Sunday afternoon round. Due to the recent rains the whole course was cart path only.

It appeared that the middle tee boxes were being reseeded and the white tees were either up with the reds or back with the blues. They were a little soggy due to the recent rain but not a lot of divot damage and flat. Overall very good conditions for tee shots.

The fairways are also in pretty good shape but still a little wet due to the rains there was not a lot of run out there was only 1 mud ball I think only 1 for the whole round. The rough is a little thin and some of the ruff around a tree is pretty bare.

The greens were much better than the last time I played here. Very smooth with little to no bare spots or divot damage but they were extremely slow. I don't see why all JC courses cant get their greens running the same speed.

First off at 6 am on a blustery morning. While I am not a fan of playing in the wind, it does keep the frost away ! Actually it was rather pleasant out, about mid 50's, but the wind made it feel colder.

Course was in decent condition, not great, but everything nice enough to make it enjoyable. One of the things I enjoy about this course is the very unusual fact that it has no par 4 holes over 400 yards, which now as a senior, fits my game much better, yet I can still play from the "tips" Despite that fact, the course has adequate length, at least for me. (All the par 3 holes are fairly long as are the last two par 5's)

Greens were nice, but again not great. That is about how I would sum up the entire course. Good, just not exceptional. Always able to get out early here and the staff is always very accommodating. Just a very enjoyable place to spend some time golfing

Played on 8/8/18 with temps of 95 degrees. We were taking advantage of Twin Oaks 25th Anniversary Special ($25 Off posted rates) from 10:30am - 2:00pm. You know it not going to be your day when the Check-In pro was disputing the $25 off for JC Players Card members.

This course experience failed us in many different ways. First, was the lack of communication informing us of a possible delays due to 6 foursomes of junior golfers (ages 8-12) and their instructors from Premier Golf Academy playing on the front 9. This baffled us as Twin Oaks website showed open times throughout the afternoon. There were no delays until we got to Hole #5. Three groups waiting to tee off and another 3 junior four/five-somes on the hole. Not wanting to wait, we skipped to Hole #7. No delays from that point forward. Played the back 9 in less than 2 hours as the back nine was virtually empty.

Carts w/ windshield were very cleaned. Twin Oaks carts has one of the best GPS systems that I have ever encountered. It displays drive distance from each tee as well as accurate distance to the hole, food menus and warning of cart path only (Hole #14).

Course conditions were mixed given the heat stress. Bermuda tees and fairways were tight, short and very nice, the exception being Holes #9 & #11 with large bare spots in the middle of the fairway. These areas were marked as GUR. Some fairway bunkers lack adequate sand depth. None were raked around the edges on the day we played. Rakes were plentiful.

The greens and surrounding areas were a different story and very wet from over-watering. This resulting in some turf loss and stress on the putting surface especially where water run-off occurs. (The very front portions of Greens #3 & #4, will require some resodding come late September). Saturated greens also had numerous deep ball marks and inconsistent putting speeds. Very frustrating at times.

Rather than using to syringe the greens by hand watering, management has elected to activate all of the green sprinklers on a 2-min short cycle, several times a day. Be prepared to wait while sprinklers are running.

Not sure if this is a budget or manpower issue but the bottom line that this practice has likely contributed to turf loss/stress on the greens (black algae), plugged lies in low spots surrounding the greens and wet bunkers.

On Hole #16 by the green to the cart path, is virtually unplayable due to the soggy high turf. Balls get lost and shoes get muddy as mowers can't even enter the area. (Hint: Can you hand mow or weed-eater this area please?)

The bottom line of this review is whether this course justifies the prices charged. Why I personally love this challenging Ted Robinson's design (Par 72, White Tees, 6,146 yds, Rating 70.1 and 126 Slope), the current conditions and water management practices makes it difficult for me to accept without taking advantage of their $25 Anniversary Special reduction (M-Th only).

Expect POP at around 4-4.5 hrs except on Fridays and Wkends when it peaks at 5.5 hrs.
Be sure to ask if on-course playing lessons for juniors are being taught on the day of your booking.

Some confusion at check in because we thought we had the first time out, but because the first group had not arrived yet, we were able to get off without a problem. Weather was rather cool and never did warm up, even as we placed the clubs back into the trunk, the temperatures were only 3 degrees warmer than when we started.

Greens did not look all that great, but were deceptively quick, particularly downhill. Fairways had some areas which need attention but played OK. I was in two bunkers, one had zero sand and the other had just enough to be playable. Rough was "spotty".

I've always enjoyed this course, perhaps because it has no par four holes over 400 yards, which as a senior, lends itself to my now ever decreasing yardage. However the par 3's and the final two par 5 holes are all that I can handle. Just a fun track with plenty of holes which allow birdie opportunities.
