Round 2 was Saturday 6/4 @ Rams Hill. Big shout out to Mike Setchell for helping set up our mini group. As always, the customer service here is second to none. Everyone encountered was uber-friendly and accommodating. Conditions are exactly as described in previous reviews. While not Augusta green (like it is in winter), it's still 99% amazing with only a couple of small brown dry spots in a couple fairways. But hey, it was 118 that day with a 25mph wind blowing all day! We were basically the only idiots to tee off after the early morning that day. We had tee times starting at 11:10 and we paid the price lol. Beverage cart could not sell alcohol to us due to excessive heat which was actually appreciated! Glad to see they're looking out for guest safety! Can't wait to get back here when they re-open after summer.

Course is still in very good condition for early summer. Fairways are still very green (not thin) Tee Boxes are just starting to thin. Not much rough with just a few bare spots. Sand was excellent. Customer service very friendly.
They are getting ready to close for the summer and driving Hwy 86 down from La Quinta is very easy

Played last Tuesday. Very windy day but it didn't ruin the great experience of this course.

If it was in OC or LA it would be a $100 round. Worth the drive. Would play it again.

Played 5/29/16 12:00 $75 GK coupon POP 4 hrs. Dry weather is starting to show. Fairway's were mostly green with a few brown areas mixed in around the edges & rough. Fairway's were firm with very good roll. Not "lush" but very good and close to it. Greens were great. Receptive, rolled true and a notch above medium. I was in a lot of sand. The traps were in great shape and consistent. Over all in very good to great shape, but firming up. They will be closing on July 5 and reopening first week of November for maintenance. So now is the time to go out a get a round in before they close for the summer.

Absolutely beautiful views and tip top course conditions! Everybody is right: it's well worth the drive! Played a couple weeks ago on a $50 GN Hot Deal time around 11:30am. Took me around 1.5 hrs to get there from Mission Valley area. I hadn't done the drive thru Julian off the 8 to 79 in a long time and I might go the 67 to 78 route next time, as half of it is very rural and slow thru the mountains. The jerk behind me rode my tail the entire way even though I was driving over the speed limit and he waited until I got to the 78 to floor it 100mph past me. So, be careful out there! First time playing here and I was thoroughly impressed from the minute I stepped out of the car, greeted by friendly staff with a cart who loaded my bag. Glenn in the pro shop greeted me by name and off to the putting green & range I went to warm up. All grass range with pyramid-stacked ProV1 Practice balls. Also, they have a really nice chipping green with a lot of room and all sorts of lies and hole location set ups you might experience out on the course. Played the Gold tees at 6,830 yds. It was hot and I wasn't going to drink beer but the cart girl, Jane, was very nice and I picked up two Ballast Point Sculpins (bottles @ $6 each) to start the round. What the hey! I was supposed to be joined by another guy (a regular, Skip) and played the first four holes by myself. Watch out for rattlers, too! Between #1 and #2 I spooked a baby one on the cart path that shot like hell back into the bushes as I slammed on the brakes! Wish I was wearing a GoPro or something. That was thrilling and made for a quick tee shot off #2 par 5! Then I got lost between #4 and #5 and caught up to Skip once I found my way back to #5 par 3. Stuck a nice tee shot to 5ft and made birdie and Skip parred. From then on, we both had a blast out there together, playing decent golf and he busted out the Fireball shots (maybe not the best idea in hindsight!). It was great playing with Skip, especially since he knew the course well and shared tips on landing/layup areas and break tendencies, etc. We finally caught up to a foursome around #15 but finished in 3.5hrs. We even met the superintendent, Steve, when we were waiting on #18 and he and his son were finishing #17 behind us. Everybody was really friendly and easy going out there, which made for a very enjoyable round. Make sure you sign up for the e-club to get your FREE Birthday round (on actual day only; and plus $20 cart fee)!!!

Rams Hill is well worth the drive. The course is immaculate and the staff is friendly. You will not find a course in better shape anywhere, private courses included. Fun layout, fairways forgiving, but fairway bunkers do penalize you. Greens are fast, true and tricky. Fun round of golf.

Played with Nicksquire for his B-day a week after playing my own B-day round, played on the $60 e-mail twilight special. Again a big thank you to Ram's Hill for the B-day round and the twilight special rate at this very special golf course. Nick about said it all, every facet of this place is top-notch! We humor each other if we see a grass blade out of place or a bit longer than the others! Did see some ball marks on a few greens, most fairway divots had been filled with the mix of sand with seeds on the carts, I noticed a couple areas in bunkers that players hadn't raked well behind themselves and may have seen some unwanted weed growth amongst the otherwise perfect green grass in one spot, but overall you can't ask for a much better prepared course.

Played the Blues (6369/70.9/131) as a 2some with Rat-Patrol in slightly over 4H on a very windy afternoon with temperatures around 70. I used the Rams Hill B-Day special, allowing me to play for the $20 cart fee. Thank you Rams Hill! The wind really swirls here, it was changing direction from shot to shot and gusting. I was clubbing up 3 clubs into the wind late in the day. Concerning course conditions, everything was in the 9-10 out of 10 range across the board. The tees were very well maintained. Large, level with few divots, mowed down close, near immaculate. The fairways were lush with few divots. A couple of discolored areas but still excellent overall. The rough was also very lush. Thick and even though the ball usually sat up, long enough to make longer clubs a chancy play. Get outside the maintained rough and the native rough is lost ball thick. The sand traps were immaculately maintained with good quality sand. I don't see how a public course in a windy area could maintain their traps any better, and there are close to 100 of them total on this course. The greens were excellent! Firm, smooth, medium fast and rolled well. The customer service was excellent. We were greeted in the parking lot on arrival and offered a ride to our car after the round. The pro shop staff was also excellent. The setup of the all grass driving range with the complementary Pro-V range balls is top notch even for a high end facility. Most of the range is sand, with numerous grass greens set up as targets in 25-30 yard increments so you could hit almost any club and feel like you were hitting into a green. I like the course layout, I can see the high slope rating. Many holes are visually intimidating with 97 well placed traps and a decent amount of water. Four different sets of tees for men, all varied by 400-500 yards. The course was fair, not overly tight and an excellent test of golf. Definitely recommended!

Fantastic course! Mike Setchell is doing a great job out there. The place is a must see and absolutely worth the drive. Conditions are wonderful. Great mix of short and long holes and the routing together with the routing provides all different types of wind directions. You will not be disappointed. And the food is top notch.
