Played in a Greenskeeper outing mid morning this Sunday. Always enjoyable playing with the GK guys.

This course is a favorite of mine. It's short but very challenging. Don't let the short yardage fool you. Friendly/helpful Staff!

Greens: better than average condition, medium to fast speed, soft greens, smooth except a few too many ball marks that were not repaired.

Fairways: very nice condition considering the excessive heat we have had over the past month, some brown spots but overall better than average.

Rough: 1 - 3 " high.

Traps: like many of the courses I've played recently, hard not a lot of sand.

Tees: Lots of divots but the management is rebuilding some of the T boxes.

No driving range but you can warm up hitting balls into a net, better than no warm up!

POP: around 4 hours.

Worth the drive up from Oceanside.

Great day at Mt Woodson, always seems to be a cool breeze up there and today was no exception. The weather was good, course was in very nice shape and the GK company was outstanding! Besides the long wooden bridge between 2 and 3 that is really cool, pretty much the whole course plays through and winds around ancient oaks, rocky hills, little valleys and has a bit of a Disneyland or enchanted forest feel to it (The castle just past the entrance helps that along a bit as well). The course is in great shape, is super fun to play and provides quite the variety of shot challenges. Highly recommended for a really fun round!

What a fun track! Don't let the yardage fool you, this course is legit. I only hit driver 7 times. Course is not tricked up, it makes you play smart golf. If you are able to hit your driver exactly where you want it then by all means bombs away! But wayward drives will more than likely be gone. The poa greens roll very nice. Sure a little bumpy later in the day but that is to be expected. Fairways were a pleasure to play from as they had great coverage and had a nice cushion to them. Tees could be a little uneven in spots but nothing too bad. Bunkers looked good. Rough was pretty short and not very penal. This is a carts only course. I don't think I have ever played anyplace where the greens and tees are so far apart. The bridge between 2 and 3 is a trip. 28.00 for super twilight is a steal. If you are in San Diego, play this course. If they could somehow add 800-1000 yards to this place (not likely) it would be mentioned with the very best in So Cal.

My second to last round in North San Diego County was with Tudedude as we headed up to Mt. Woodson following a GK Review Guru Woods Valley Golf Club visit on Thursday. I’m a huge fan of Mt. Woodson having run 3 outings there and enjoying every round I’ve ever had (even when conditions were down) – it’s just that fantastic of layout IMO. I honestly think it’s the best target golf layout I have ever played. Place overflows with character and uniqueness. The scenery is stunning at times and layout is just a blast to play. It’s a par 70 only 5842 from the blues, but rated 69.0/133, which I feel is under-rated, it will bring you to your knees. Everything about the course is challenging. Blow-up hole potential on every hole while at the same time legit birdie chances (with exception of the monster uphill par 4, #12). The area is secluded and peaceful. If I lived in the area this would be my regular late afternoon course given how incredible the place looks at that time. Bet it’s pretty amazing at dawn too. And I can't forget to mention the famous "Bridge" cart path from hole #2 to hole #3. Check out the photos I just posted!

OK, done gushing about the layout, what impressed me most about this visit is the great playing conditions. The fairways are some of best bermuda turf I have played in a long time. So pure and tight with plenty of padding under the ball. The greens are healthy poa running mostly smooth (even for a late afternoon), medium-fast and firm, the rough was not that penalizing, mainly bermuda turf with patches of fescue. Sand traps firm and in need of quality sand. Tee boxes lush, little divot damage considering how small they are and some slightly not level (but wow they are impressive structures).

There is GK Coupon for only $30 to play the course anytime Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday or $55 on Sunday. That’s a steal.

Highly Recommended.

Played on 5/18/17 with John after the Guru outing. First time here and it really is an interesting place to play. I can officially state that in the wind we started in I cleaned out my old ball stash within the first 3 holes and had to play "good" balls. Very demanding for it's length. Don't expect to hit many drivers here, but do expect to be penalized for poor decisions and poor swings. Also, expect your great shots to be rewarded with relatively easy birdies.

Tee boxes were not very level on some holes, but the grass coverage was solid and you could find a relatively flat spot to play from. Fairways are in great condition as well as the greens themselves. Sand would be my big gripe for the course. As with most courses in SoCal these days, there just isn't any sand to allow one to splash the ball out onto the green. You almost have to play pitch shots instead.

These holes, while short, have a TON of character and the views are amazing! Huge boulders, lakes, and various trees adorn all the holes. There's tons of wildlife (bunnies, squirrels, hawks, and even the occasional rattlesnake based on signs and some probable dens observed under said rocks), and don't be surprised if the rabbits just stare you down while you play the hole. They are not exactly skittish about being around golfers.

If I get my game in order, I will be back for a second attempt at conquering this gem. You cannot go wrong with a course this much fun to play ... even if every major error turns into a look in the bag for another ball.

Drive by every day and have been wanting get out here since it has been a while.
Course is in very good shape
Fairways green with full coverage. They were cut kind of tight, but very nice to hit off. A little on the firm side, but not bad, and they had pretty good roll.
Greens receptive and in great shape. They can get a little bumpy in the afternoon from the blooming Poana and foot prints, but They still rolled decent at about medium fast.
Rough wasn't bad. Decent shape with mostly full coverage at about 2" of green/brownish grass.
Traps in poor shape. No sand in them and are mostly hard pan.
T boxs which have been horrible for years were actually in decent shape. Mostly full coverage. They are small so they can get get beat up quickly. Many are still crowned or sloped, but at least for now they have good coverage. If you're a fan of Mt. Woodson, you will not be disappointed!

2/8 last of the birthday rounds $12 after the rains CPO with POP 420. Over the last 6 rounds we played courses that have the common factor of large contoured greens that provide a stellar defense against lackadaisical putting making every approach putt and the 3-4 footers a challenge to our sanity. Greens here fit right in and even being slightly slower from residual dampness--only for the 1st 2 hours--putting was not easy. Greens fairly smooth overall and mostly firm but receptive for short and medium shots with chips still running out sometimes more than expected.
Traps need about 2 weeks to dry out. Fairways were less wet than we expected but still played LCP and were able to find ok lies.
Really good customer service making us welcome--thank you for the birthday hospitality.
Due to the rain factor I will not be rating this course this time.
All and all a good tract and an outing worth the 1hr15min drive.

1/30 using golf moose $63 2 some on a beautiful 70' am with no one ahead or behind for an easy 4 hr POP roughly 30 minutes of which spent looking for wayward shots, finding most but often in some real awkward places leaving nothing but limited chip outs. Here you have fairway--then some areas of rough--then what is referred to as native areas--brush, rocks sticks and drop offs--some places you don not even want to think about trying to go into but look on the edges hoping the ball hit something to have it stop.
Fairways were in good shape--good cover but mostly dormant winter condition--have dried out since rains with only #5 and #10 CPO and a very few areas of casual water overall.
Tees overall ok # 8 has a little crown to it but not severe. About 1/2 the bunkers still had excess moisture but had an area that was still playable. Fairway bunkers were dry firm and very playable. Rough varied from rather whispy to juicy.
Greens were nice medium fast smooth consistent overall and for me difficult to read as the overall topography is a factor in addition to the contour Greens vary in size from hole to hole.
Staff friendly and welcoming--we plan on returning next week for birthday rounds.
Fun course a little quirky with good variety and with a stroke multiplying factor for mi sh-t s.

Second time playing the course, had a great time. The only real negative was that some of the tee boxes were a little thin and not level. I will play this course again
