Played 12-8-19 in the GK outing teeing it up with Gary, Pedro, and Kieth for a fun day of golf with a great group. Overall course is in really nice condition. Tee boxes were mostly lush and level. Fairways were very nice, with minimal roll out due to recent rains and some minor spots that still need to fill in but still had great lies. Rough was about 2 inches and very lush and green. Found myself in two fairway bunkers and one greenside bunker all of which had a very nice amount of soft sand. Greens were a little softer and slower than normal but still in good shape and rolling nice. Great day with great friends at a great setting, cant be beat.

This last Sunday, I had the honors to be part of the GK's Gurus golfing outings. This was my first time playing the Rams Hill Golf Course. Since the moment that we drove in the golf course club and I noticed that I was in for a big surprise. Starting from the practice greens, they were like a carpet just very smooth, clean and rolling beautiful.

Then we got to the practice range, are you KIDDING ME!!! they have practice Titleist pro v1. I then knew that I was just going to enjoy my round and not even keep score just enjoy my game and have a great time with my buddies.

I played with my buddies GK Guru's Gary, Ron and Keith. Our tee time was at 10:45am. Keith and I played from the whites tees. Every tee that I looked at each hole were just spectacular, very smooth and level (I just felt that I was on a mat hitting my ball). I did not needed to look for a level area to stand and hit the little white ball. The fair ways unbillable perfect very green and not to many debits. My buddy Gary was driving and he didn't wanted to get on them as they were just amazing well kept. The only thing that I did noticed was that all of the holes that we played had to many sand traps, which make them very challenging for me as I'm not a good fairway sand trap hitter.

The greens to me were excellent, golfers that played a head of us were fixing their debits and ball makers. I really enjoyed playing Rams Hills first nine 9 holes, I did very well. But as soon as we starting the back nine, the wind picked up and it was very challenging to keep the ball in the fairways and your ball was not going no where. But never the less, I had a great round playing with my GK Guru's friends and very happy to be out playing golf.

Customer services were excellent, always smiling and they know how to take care of you. Over all, I rate Rams Hill all across the board 9.5. If you haven't played or if GK has another golf outing and Rams Hills is in the list. You have to get up there and experience it as I did. Trust me you won't be disappointed. By far, Rams Hill Golf Clube is one of my top 5 golf course that I have played. I know for sure that I will be coming back to play here again.

Thank you GK for this awesome experience. As always, get up there and continue to play the game that we all love.

Super time. Great year end outing. Thanks everyone for coming out. I’ll be posting a recap on Wednesday.

Course conditions this year compared to last year's outing were better. But like last year the golf course was rather saturated from all the recent rain. I’m used to Rams Hill Golf Club playing more firm. Sure makes for a long golf course and especially on the back nine when the wind kicked up. But have to say I did enjoy being able to be aggressive with my pitch shots and approaches. Not used to seeing their greens hold shots like that. Speaking of the greens thought they were mostly smooth, medium pace and mostly soft. I remember when the course first opened and the greens were like a pool table. Super firm, lightning fast and very smooth. Smooth and fast was great but it was near impossible to hold shots. How interesting how a golf course changes with maturity.

Fairways were super lush in most places with occasional thin spots where overseed washed out due to some the heavy rains. Still so beautiful and a pleasure to play from. Same goes for the rough. Sand traps had soft excellent well-manicured sand and the tee boxes good coverage/level lies. Aesthetically I don’t know if I’ve see the place look much better. Loved the continued surrounding landscape improvements and clubhouse upgrades (as well as the addition of the golf simulator). Check out the photos I just posted!

Following play we for the first time concluded it inside in their Santa Rosa Room (hope I got the name right). Very nice large private room with views of the 18th hole and driving range. I may want to always have our prizes and announcements in there for future outings.

This year, as in all times, the service was exceptional. Everyone very friendly and professional. The outing organized perfect. I can’t recommend this place enough for group outings and tournaments. Just a great golf experience worth the drive.

Played on Sunday the 8th and this was my first vist to Rams Hill and it wont be the last. As the other GKr's have mentioned, the course is in great shape. I haven't played a course this green in a long time. With the wind blowing and the elevation changes from fairway to green, choosing the correct club was at a premium.
As Dave mentioned it is a LONG drive to and from the course, but I have to say it is well worth it. Thanks to the staff (who are top notch) for having us and for help making this a very memorable day.
Note: When checking in ask for a scorecard with combo tees, the round played 6100 yards, instead 6300+ from the blues and under 6000 from the whites.

Played in the GK Event teeing off at 1115 on Sunday, 12/8/19 – thanks to GKers Greg, Brian, and Nick for an enjoyable round in challenging windy conditions. I come back to RH (almost) every year despite the LONG drive to and from because I really like the course design, conditions are always stellar compared to most courses in SoCal, and I always enjoy the company of other GKers. Thanks again to Johnny for setting up this outing.

Love the grass range and unlimited balls, smooth and quick small putting green, and separate short game area (which I’ve never used). Staff is great and many food and water options are readily available. Over the years the clubhouse/cart marshalling infrastructure has been improved and many staff are available to get you loaded up and going. Carts are comfortable and offer a nice interactive GPS and a cooler with complimentary water. A club cleaner/ball washer would be a nice addition.

Off on time and with a good separation of tee times you never feel rushed. The scorecard shows pin location by zones on the greens, but today we were told that, as a result of recent rains, pins had been moved on some greens to avoid bad areas, so zone format was not being used. It was obvious going through the course that there were no ‘front’ pins that might normally be in areas that get a lot of water runoff. GPS has pin location, and we were told that the GPS should show the correct relocated pin placements, but in more than half the holes today the GPS showed the wrong pin location, so we needed to use our own tools to get accurate reads.

Greens were in very good condition. Most were pretty firm and dried quickly in the windy weather. We found a few softer spots and some areas were a little bumpy. Greens held high shots and rolled pretty well at medium+ speeds. The greens were showing footprints/spikemarks pretty badly as we finished the second nine, but overall were far superior to greens we normally see in SoCal. Only on hole #17 green did we see an abnormally high number of old ballmarks.

Fairways had fairly good coverage, although we did see/find some scattered bare spots, and some holes showed the aftermath of recent punching and slow recovery of grasses. Lies were rarely lush, and were mostly fairly tight. Rough was more uniform and had been cut short and very playable. Tees were level (we played a Blue/White combo setup) and easy to play from. Sand was in very good condition, groomed after all the rains and great to play from in all areas. I was in the front bunker on hole #10, up against a nose on the side of the bunker, and the sand was pretty deep and soft, making getting a stance difficult – don’t hit it where I did!

Afterwards the course gave us a comfortable private room for our after-round activities. Thanks again to Johnny for making lots of great prizes available. Every year I say this is the last time at RH because of the long drive and long day, but wonderful course/conditions and playing with GKers keeps me coming back. Next year – well, we’ll see!

Rams Hill lived up to the hype yet again following this weekend's GK Plays down in Borrego Springs. There's a good reason why this particular event will always pack the house with players because it's simply one of the best golf experiences you'll ever have out there.

This Fazio design layout is simply a joy to play and, despite the tricky windy and sometimes cold conditions, it's an absolutely fair and enjoyable test of golf. This is certainly not the most difficult desert course you'll find out there as many of the fairways are contoured to help keep wayward balls in play, and the desert lies are often quite playable themselves.

But that's not to say this course doesn't have teeth of its own, mostly in the form of many very strategically-placed bunkers and a good amount of water features that come into play as well. We decided to play from the white tees to experience the course in a different way and it was still great fun, albeit with a different approach off the tee in most cases. It's also that variety that makes Rams Hill a terrific destination.

Greens were running very smoothly but not as lightning quick as past visits. Very manageable indeed. But nice coverage and held shots very well. Again, very FAIR greens as well with considerable tiers and slopes, but nothing so over the top as to be considered 'gimmicky.'

Fairways were mostly in great shape but there were some muddy areas or some patches that seemed like they had just been grown in with new sod. I'm no greenskeeper so I can't speak much to that, but I do know that I've seen the fairways out here in slightly better condition overall on previous occasions, but this is just nitpicking since the course is still so great.

Rough was thick and perfect, and definitely still playable as well. Tee boxes were in fine, level shape, and the bunkers (of which I saw many) had nothing but great sand in them. Kudos to the grounds crew at Rams Hill for drying them out so quickly after the previous day's rains.

We had great service as well from the start to the finish - nice touch with the homemade cookies to finish off the round. Also the BEST little chicken tacos at the snack shop just after the turn. Keep making those! And the GPS on the carts is very functional and helpful, while the carts themselves are updated, modern, and well appointed.

All in all, another fabulous weekender down to Borrego Springs with the highlight being one of the best courses you'll ever play if having a good time is what you're all about. The views of the surrounding mountains and desert are awe-inspiring and will make you want to come back again and again.

Rode the Blues (6369/70.9/131) with Dave, Greg and Brian in the GK Plays in 4H, 55M. Overcast and very windy in the 50's made for challenging golf weather. Thanks to John and everyone responsible for a well run event. Tom Fazio design, really like the course layout, Many holes have visually intimidating sight lines with 97 well placed traps and a decent amount of water. I understand the high slope rating. They have added combo tees, so plenty of tee options for players of all skill levels. The course is fair, not overly tight and an excellent test of golf. The tees were lush and very well maintained. Large, level with few divots, near immaculate. The fairways were lush with few divots. A couple of discolored areas but still excellent overall. The rough was also very lush. Thick and long enough to make longer clubs a chancy play. Get outside the maintained rough and the native rough is a likely lost ball. The sand traps were nicely maintained with thick, good quality sand. Almost too thick @ times. However, for a public course in a windy area with close to 100 total on this course, hard to see any course allowing daily fee players to do better. The greens were firm, smooth, medium fast and rolled well. Lots of ball marks fellow players! Definitely not as pristine as prior visits, but still very good overall. The customer service has always been excellent here. Little things like the cookie after the round and complementary water are noticed and appreciated. The pro shop staff, Starter, Marshall and Drink cart were all excellent to deal with. Full service restaurant that was doing a brisk business, friendly service. Good GPS on the carts. The setup of the all grass driving range with the complementary Pro-V range balls is top notch. Numerous grass greens set up as targets in 25-30 yard increments so you could hit almost any club and feel like you were hitting into a green. Concerning playing conditions. On all my previous visits everything was in the 9/10 out of 10 range across the board. Today, they were more in the 8/9 out of 10 range. Excellent, but not as prisitne as previous rounds played here. Still definitely recommended.

Enjoyable GK day at Rams Hill yesterday! We had a fun time as the lead group. We were behind another 30-player tournament, so the pace was a bit slow with waiting on most shots and some back-ups on a few holes. To echo what others have already said, the conditions were rather soft after plenty of rain here lately. Very windy with the course playing longer than usual.

Some repair being done on some fairways, but overall in great condition as always. Greens softer than ever and a bit on the slow side by RH standards. I actually miss the early days when they were lightning fast! The sand was super soft, which was nice in greenside bunkers but very tough in fairway bunkers. Overall, everything was very nice and the service was great as we've come to expect here. Delicious cookies handed out when we finished, too! If you haven't played out here, make the trip and enjoy this hidden treasure.
