The Alert is correct. Wolf Creek is closing this week for a month to re-sod all greens. When I played last week (2/14/14) the greens were dead and painted green. They looked awful, but actually putted better than they looked. I only had a couple of 3 putts. Whatever they did to the greens they also did to portions of the 12th and 17th fairways. Otherwise the course was in excellent condition. To the credit of the Course Management, they called me a wekk before the tee time to explain the problem with the greens so I could have cancelled if I wanted to. They also reduced the green fee by $20 and gave a $25 gift card for anything in the pro shop. I wish them the best and hope the greens are fixed by end of March. regarding the course itself, i think it's definitely worth a play, especially if you are in the vegas area. i've played it multiple times previously on the tiger woods video game, but still the real thing was quite a sight to behold. lots of fun and tricky holes that test your target golf game. make sure you bring a straight drive and play the right tee boxes. the contrast between the hills and the course and water make for a beautiful backdrop for your drives and approaches. some were pretty wacky, like the par 3 3rd hole, which from the blues was 175 yds out but also seemed like 100 yards up as well with a false front.

still, get out there, i think it definitely needs to be played at least once, though i'll be back when the course is greener.

Played 10/7/13 10 am $175 POP 4:45. First off... WOW.... If you like Disney land style golf holes you will love this place. The fun-est course I've ever played. Maybe two holes with level T & fairway shots and one very difficult up hill par 3. The rest are elevated T box shots. Some are hard to judge the distance. I out drove the fairway twice, thinking I was playing a conservative shot! One of those courses you really (and want to) play again once you get a feel of how it lay's out. T's where mostly in good to great shape. Some placements were funky and un- level because of ground repair under way. Fairway's were mostly green & in OK to excellent shape. But there were many brown & dead spots mixed in. Some holes had many areas and some had few to none. Greens were mostly great to excellent running at a perfect speed (for me) at medium fast/ fast. Some minor divots, but quite a few dead/burnt areas mixed in. I only found 3 sand traps but they were the best I've ever played out of. Soft & grainy and very consistent. This made fairway ones a little harder to get out of. But, if you made a good level swing on the ball it flew out fine. I was very disappointed at the practice facilities. Iron only range and a very small putting/chipping green. On a personal note. The layout was fantastic and the conditions were ok to excellent. Just my kind of course. But the full tag of $175 for the conditions, we felt it was way over priced. It was a $100-125 course not $175. But, we drove 1.5 hrs from Vegas and I would probably do it again, so they're getting it ??

BUT !!! the course itself is not so hard if you play the correct tees. Some of the vistas are those not found anywhere else. Even Falcon Ridge {which is a great track} does not have the views. Bring a good vibe and a camera. A must play at least once.

Played with a group of 14 on 6/22. Took off around 10 am and found wonderful conditions to start. Wind became a little factor later in the afternoon as we were finishing. Very tough to play this course if windy with all the elevation changes, so note that.

From the first tee box, you are in awe of the beauty of this golf course. It starts with the first shot and does not stop until the final putt drops. Course is full of elevation changes and choosing the right tee's is paramount to your enjoyment. Leave your EGO in the car. Select the right Tee Box to your current playing handicap, not what you think you are. There is a huge difference from the different Tee Boxes in forced carry and trouble. So do yourself a favor. Also, if you tend to spray the ball around a lot, move up, drop down a few clubs and bring lots of golf balls. While the course is fair, there are a number of holes where less than quality golf shots are going to disappear.

Another note, on many of the holes you have to actually climb stairs to get from the Golf Cart parking to the Tee Box, so if you have bad legs, be prepared. This is not a normal muni where you just cruise up right next to the markers, drop it, bang it and move on.

No GPS in carts, so if you have a GPS product with fly-over capabilities you will be fine. Otherwise, get their yardage book. Not many, but there are a few blind shots where you want to know where to go and driving ahead will only get you part of the way there. You also will have to be fairly adept at making adjustment for downhill and uphill shots.

For June and HOT, course was in phenomenal shape. Tee Boxes were very level and lush, fairways were in great shape and the greens were very nice as well. they were a little on the hard side, but not crazy hard where balls were hitting and flying all over. Despite being hard, they were much slower than you would have thought. Many of the holes have the wonderful white sand that plays very true. Some of the holes the sand was a little crusty and balls tended to jump a little more. Your a golfer, take note of what is under your feet and adjust accordingly. Even the crusty one's were in great shape. Although, I will note, there are a number of very large bunkers and while they had some very high quality rakes, there was nowhere near enough for many of the bunkers that were oversized. We did spend a good deal of time walking around to grab a rake.

A very nice touch that you come through the on course Snack Shack 2x during your round. You hit it after the 5th hole and then again after the 14th I believe. You also go by the clubhouse at the turn, so ample time to gear up with what you need. Important, as they do not have convenience carts roaming the golf course.

Overall I would definitely call this a MUST Play on the West Coast. The staff here was phenomenal. Pace of play is what you should expect from a course of this difficulty level with the elevation changes, some blind shots, and trouble on either side of fairways. You will find it hard to run around this track in 3 hours unless your entire group is single digit handicappers and hitting it well with no one in front of you. Expect a little wait from time to time. Enjoy the beauty. I think also even if you are a higher handicapper, you can find the right tee's to bang it around this track and enjoy yourself. If you tend to hack it around your local muni in the 120 plus range, this probably isn't the track for your game right now unless your going to scramble with your buddies.....

Played Monday, 6/10, with a 10a tee time. We pulled into the parking lot around 8:30 and were met at the car by 2 carts, stocked with water, towels, and a cooler. Checked in, took some warm up swings on the free range and the starter let us out around 9:15. Course is in great shape. Good tee boxes, lush fairways with little amount of divots, and nice rough. They still haven't switched over all the bunkers to the beach-like white sand, and the older stuff had some rocks (#16 was the worst). Greens were soft, and ran slower than they looked. We did chase the sprinklers around the whole course, so I should of expected it. No drink cart, but a drive-thru snack bar after #5 and 14, and the clubhouse after #9. Water coolers every 3 holes or so. Customer service was great, and they give 2 for 1 coupons after the round. Only complaint, no GPS and they no longer give out the yardage books for free ($5 well spent). Bring a camera, extra batteries, and sunscreen. Course is really really tough when the wind kicks up.

I played on Fri., June 7 at 1:30pm and paid $125, which was definitely worth it! This golf course is amazing. Beautiful, phenomenal, and stunning are some of the words that come to mind when I attempt to describe this course. The layout is as challenging as it gets and there is a photo op around every corner. We played in blistering heat (~110F) and just before going off, there were a few guys at the clubhouse being treated for heat stroke. Undaunted, we marched on and endured the heat. The staff did its best to help where they could.....the marshal came around every few holes to provide water, ice, and cold towels. Considering the heat, I was amazed at how lush the conditions were. Tee boxes were level, lush, and green; the fairways were lush and green as well. The bunkers that I was in couldn't have been any better.....soft, and white with great coverage and consistency. The greens were very nice and rolled true but much slower than I would prefer. Just thinking about the course makes me want to go back.....and I will! Lastly, upon entering the clubhouse, it was pretty neat seeing the GK award plaques being proudly displayed in the entry way.

Teed it up with Jerry64 and jeroethel last week (5/6) and the course was stunning…see photos I just uploaded.

Great time guys. What a treat to play with you on a golf course I consider my favorite. We had perfect weather and finished in under 4:30 hours. The conditions were very lush, tee boxes level, bunkers bleach marble white (with exception to hole #2), not a bad lie anywhere and greens rolling smooth. The greens are new having been seeded back in October yet are well grown in. I would have preferred them a little faster but understand they need to be kept at a 9 speed for a while longer. Come this fall, I’m sure they will have the green speed back up to a 10 – 10.5. You don’t want them faster than that anyway because of the severe undulations. In general the greens are in outstanding shape.

I can’t describe the layout and our experience any better than the photos I posted a well as the excellent reviews already submitted by my playing partners below.

I highly recommend this course.

Had the chance to join JohnnyGK and Jeroethel for a Meet and Play at Wolf Creek Golf Club on 5/7/13. First let me say that if you have never played here take your camera and be get ready to take lots of photos because this course is truly breath taking.
Upon arrival you will find the staff here is quite attentive to what ever you may need, they jump to your car and unload your bags and direct you to exactly where you need to go for check in, with a smile and pleasant attitude. Now lets talk about the course and practice areas.

The Driving range here is rather small and only provides players with what can be described as a true warm up only. The range does not permit fairway woods or drivers due to its length. It is long enough however to hit your long irons, and presents well marked targets from hitting stalls that contain plenty of good grass. The range also consists of a large bunker complex that is deep with prefect sand, with a nice 4 hole target green. I would recommend that you spend some time in the bunker here to sharpen your sand game as many of the course bunkers present deep high face shots that you will have to recover from. The practice greens are in excellent condition and will give you a great read on what to expect on the course. Now lets talk about about the course.

The fairways are very lush and present terrific lies with only a few being very tight. The 90 degree rule comes into play only on a few holes plus the usual par 3's. Fairways here are set down into the bottom of Sandstone Hills with tees that are raised and commonly found on the top of vistas giving the player wonderful looks of the property and surrounding hills and mountains. There are a few carries over desert land that is considered Environmental area off limits to retrieving wayward shots so bring an extra sleeve or two with you. Also many of the tees have several climbs with steps to reach you hitting area so be prepared for some walking.
The greens here are mostly raised several feet above the fairway and provide you with some of the most dramatic choices you will ever encounter on a course. Club selection here is very important when hitting your scoring irons, long can lead to very difficult putts and short off the green can lead to very delicate chips. Once on the green you will find that they offer great scoring chances and hold shots better than average. They run true and are quite smooth, with few to no ball marks other than the usual few you may find from golfers who do not take the time to fix their own, but again these are few and wide spread. I thought the greens on the front nine ran about a 9, but on the back they seem to slow to maybe 8-8.5, I chalk this up to growth later in the day, as we started the back nine in mid afternoon, but the difference in speed was quite evident.
You will not find much rough here as the Sand Stone hills run down to the cart paths, however there is enough rough through out the course that if you find it, your club selection will be crucial to recover. It is not long by any means maybe 1-3 inches but thick and normally into your club face, so check your ball carefully and make a decision from what you see, do not make my mistake and hit your normal club if you have any doubts.
As mentioned early, the bunkers here are deep with high steep faces. The sand is White and Fluffy and is very fair for recovery, with a thickness of 4-5 inches in most cases. There are a few green side and fairway bunkers that have yet to be redone and these are easily spotted by there brown texture.
This is a terrific course and a most play for any golfer who enjoys perfect conditions. I would recommend this course in the highest way. Also a special thanks to JohnnyGK for setting this Meet and Play up and Joel the course General Manager.
